Bands that have the same name.

There are at least 2 Nirvana , a lot of Big Black , New Order and The New Order , 2 Cherubs plus a band called The Cherub etc...
( this thread could be useful to avoid bad surprises when buying a record )

Dutch post-punk band Mecano:

Spanish synth-pop band Mecano:

I have only heard the Dutch Mecano, who are good (although I haven't listened to them in some time) and someone told me that the Spanish Mecano were awful (although I didn't not get the chance to verify this...)

forkimified 11.02.2007 04:16 PM

Not really the same, but one of my friends wanted to buy an Earth album, but ended up getting an album by Skeletal Earth. Not quite the same thing...

forkimified 11.02.2007 04:24 PM

Also, lots of bands called Resin, including one I did in highschool...

"awful" doesn't beginning to describe how stomach-churning, brain-hemmorhage (sp?) causing, ear tumor they fucking are, the worst cutesy, 1 point of iq retarded piece of shit music you can ever hear.

they are pretty much at the top of the worse things i've ever heard in a my life.

there's like five bands called om.

skid row: the semi-hair metal band and a blues hard rock band from the 70's

thor's hammer: nsbm band and thorr's hammer: the black doom band.

there was also an 80's hardcore band called m.i.a.

there's like 3 million bands called genocide.

Haha... Ok, that was a clear assessment. I am curious by nature but I can't say I'm really eager to inflict myself this even for a few seconds using Youtube or else now. We shall see: do I have enough time to lose to check every awful music there is just to see how awful it really is?

PAULYBEE2656 11.02.2007 07:35 PM

skid row... irish rockers a la thin lizzy and the american poodle wankery of riffdom.....

desecration...... irish death metal band, mates of mine, they are no longer rockin out..... finnish death metal band who invited them on a tour with them...... the tour was called the two desecrations of hell.... the irsh dececreation changed their name to the disgust of the poster printers... true story!

Everyneurotic 11.02.2007 07:42 PM

ohh yeah, the stains, both hardcore bands, both opened for flag when henry joined, one from la, one from austin. the austin stains soon changed their name to millions of dead cops.

there's also like a million bands called dissection.

PAULYBEE2656 11.02.2007 07:46 PM

There's a lot of REMs, and I think there's two bands called the Chameleons (the one from England are called the Chameleons UK in the US), two bands called the Monks

atsonicpark 11.02.2007 09:23 PM

regarding smegma: there's a punk band called "mega smegma", as well, which is close.

there is scrawl, le scrawl, and another band called scrawl.

two bands called switchhitter.

there is x and another band called x (japan).

i actually looked up cherubs on youtube and found that shitty band called cherubs instead of the noise rock band and i made fun of them.

unrelated, but: there's this comic book made by the guy who made buffy and i guess it's coming out soon but the band in is naped sugar shock. ripoff.

Cardinal Rob 11.02.2007 09:42 PM

A year and a half ago, I was planning on trying out my band skills with a group mainly of people far younger than me who couldn't play called Czar, and I recall there were about 100 other bands and artists called Czar on myspace at the time. So there y'are.

gualbert 11.02.2007 10:20 PM

I know 2 of the Scrawl , the indie american band and another one who are german and play some sort of grind-flamenco-easy-listening ( I'm not kidding )

Inhuman 11.02.2007 11:14 PM

There were two bands called 'Dinosaur'; ask King Buzzo about that though.

RAEIN. They were such a great emo band. But some local band named themselves Raein, and I saw it on the show listings and got excited, then found out it was a different band.

also, mogwai, and i'm pretty sure there's an electronic band called moguai (same pronunciation) they might be australian too, not sure.

Dead-Air 11.02.2007 11:50 PM

Slightly off topic, but I absolutely hate when people (the British press are the guiltiest) call Sonic Youth "the sonics" for short. Even though both bands are great and the latter influenced the former, it's like they don't even know the '60 garage gods existed!

I've actually run into this problem with my own group Dead Air Fresheners and people calling us DAF for short. There is a classic group called DAF and we don't wish to dis them by stealing their initials!

The Coachmen

Gulasch Noir 11.03.2007 05:15 AM

Seemingly there are more bands that are called Necronomicon, besides the 70s German one.
http://www.last.fm/music/Necronomicon?setlang=en

pbradley 11.03.2007 05:29 AM

it appears there are also two Pylons and seven Polarises,,,

Polari

GravitySlips 11.03.2007 07:20 AM

i know there's at least two bands called Ruins, although probably lots more than two..

excellent Japanese band
some Australian metal band (i think)

also, Slipknot (lol)

there was a hardcore band called Slipknot, late 80s I think

PAULYBEE2656 11.03.2007 08:35 AM

the aussie band are called ruiner, no? ive heard of a band called the ruins, i bought a cd by mistake thinking it was some jap ruins album i hadnt come accross because the cover had an old aztec statue on it... it wasnt the same band, type of music , nationality or even continent! it suckes major balls.......

GravitySlips 11.03.2007 10:02 AM

I think you're right, they're probably called "the ruins".

there's a bunch of bands called "Ghost". again, the japanese one is the best in my eyes.

also, i know two bands called DNA...the no wave band, and also a trance group.

Gulasch Noir 11.03.2007 10:31 AM

also, more than one "The Jam" or "Jam" ... the other "The Jam"/"Jam" is a 60s garage rock band

pokkeherrie 11.03.2007 11:11 AM

The most hilarious one to me is Japanese Boris vs. Dutch Boris (winner of Pop Idols TV show). I even had to save king_buzzo once from accidentally going to the second one.

touch me i'm sick 11.03.2007 11:14 AM

there are two pagoda bands

atsonicpark 11.03.2007 12:06 PM

wata is so hot. jesus.

anyway, there seems to be a lot of overlapping in death metal/gore grind/etc. lots of bands with VERY similiar names, such as "necrophagia" and "necrophagist"..

pokkeherrie 11.03.2007 12:19 PM

I've been told that there are two bands called Faust nowadays... although they're both different incarnations of what once was the same legendary band we all know.

In the same way there are now two different groups called Master Musicians of Jajouka, using different spelling. I think they're using "Jajouka" and "Joujouka", but don't pin me down on that.

Ha! Good call. I'm sure that Kingo isn't the only one to have that happen to him.
Imagine it happening the other way around. :D

there's also a band from spain called tape and a dutch band (i think) called .tape

strictlycommercial 11.03.2007 03:06 PM

The Go Team and The Go! Team. Thought the oddly placed exclamation mark was just them being cute.

Dead-Air 11.03.2007 06:08 PM

Of course there's also the band Courtney Love, featuring Lois Maffeo and Pat Maley, that named themselves after the person in contempt of her brief stay in Olympia.
