twenty extra dollars for a doodle?

atsonicpark 11.06.2007 03:22 PM

Yeah, please don't spend $40 on this -- the last thing we need is Thurston to actually think his chicken scratches make his mediocre albums worth any more than they actually are. Yuck.

akesin 11.06.2007 08:47 PM

Yeah, truth his thurston agrees with you about the autograph thing... but half of the orders so far have been for the auto'd version so somebody is into it(it's a signature not a doodle.) Anyway, just to be clear, I'm the dick here.

I won't respond to your assesment of "mediocre" other than to say you're entitled to your opinion and I vehemently disagree.

Peace.

Everyneurotic 11.06.2007 11:04 PM

i think paying double for something you can get at the end of an sy show for free seems pretty dumb to me.

by the way, seriously, why are ep's international shipping rates so high? i wanted to order the sunburned with paul flaherty tape but it was 3 times as much for shipping alone.

RanaldoNecro 11.06.2007 11:06 PM

American shipping is notoriously cheap. Shipping is way of life in the US.

tesla69 11.07.2007 10:33 AM

I see Thurston hanging out at so many different functions it seems silly to me to pay $20 for an autograph when he is so approachable but not everyone lives in NYC or West Mass so...

anyone who saw this played live knows it is not mediocre.

Rob Instigator 11.07.2007 11:40 AM

This record is so good! I have been listening to the picture dish non-stop since it arrived three days ago. I love it. I paid for the pic disc, but I would not pay for an autograph, although it would be nice.
Trees is a fucking good record! I am surprised at how much I love it.

atsonicpark 11.07.2007 01:50 PM

Well, compared to Psychic Hearts, it's the best fucking album ever released. But that's not really a fair assessment. It's a decent album, nothing more, nothing less.

Also, for whatever odd reason, I got 5 reps for the last thing I said on this thread. Hmm...

atsonicpark 11.07.2007 01:55 PM

Oh, sorry, forgot!:

"....in my opinion."

I don't see a problem here. Some of us don't get any shows around the places they live so that is the only way we can get the autographed LP.

I agree about the shipping rates. I was starting to order the LP frop ep and then it said that shipping it to Israel costs almost as the LP itself. I'm going to wait for some more EP stuff and order them together.

word.

The Usher 11.08.2007 08:00 AM

I don't see a problem with this. If you want it then buy, if not, then don't. Some people love collecting signed stuff. As Akesin has said, people are into it.
I always find atsonicpark's 'critiques' totally off the mark, your comments on other bands/music always seem to come from a really personal perspective, which appear to be tinged with a hint of jealously. What's up, no one wanna buy your signed records?

I was lucky enough to find a copy of the Mirror/Dash 7" for £1 some years ago which I subsequently got autographed by both Kim and Thurston for free.

Sorry, this isn't really pertinent to the thread, just me boasting.

yes, but twenty dollars more for a signature? if it was $5 or $7 more dollars, i could understand that, but paying double?

plus, i bet a lot of those signed records are going to go straight to ebay for fucking $60.

so does ep have a fixed rate for shipping? pay one shipment for everything you can get?

Just don't worry about it. so what if someone puts one on Ebay, I doubt it'll sell anway...I always see signed SY stuff on there which never sells.

I just don't see the problem, it's not as if Thurston's gonna make a zillion bucks out of doing it, he's hardly gonna run out to the shops and start buying up sports cars and houses in the hamptons...there's bigger things to get pissed off about in the music industry than a bunch of signed picture discs.

Everyneurotic 11.08.2007 11:25 AM

i'm expressing my opinion about it.

The Usher 11.08.2007 11:32 AM

And?

Everyneurotic 11.08.2007 11:34 AM

and what? i just want to express that paying $20 for a signature is stupid.

Rob Instigator 11.08.2007 11:36 AM

people lining up and paying $70 dollars to get some athlete's signature is fucking stupid!

I would pay $100 extra if I knew that Kim Gordon had rubbed the reord all over her sonic crotch.

The Usher 11.08.2007 11:36 AM

In your opinion, which was all I was saying.

fuck yes, that's my point.

and that thing about kim...hahahaha, i could understand someone paying for that, but that's a...'special' service that would justify the cost.

The Usher 11.08.2007 11:42 AM

I think that's probably got more to do with prostitution! I guess you could request that Thurston rubs the vinyl between his cheeks!

sarramkrop 11.08.2007 11:45 AM

I don't see why someone who has 20 bucks spare shouldn't spend it on something like that. I personally couldn't care less about about having someone famous' autograph, but if a person appreciates that kind of thing and doesn't mind paying some extra, why not?

I'd rather not think about it, wrinkly fanny and all.

Rob Instigator 11.08.2007 12:10 PM

I do own her old pants you know....

atsonicpark 11.08.2007 03:11 PM

It breaks down like this: $20 for a SIGNATURE or $20 for [tons of cool stuff I don't need to name -- you know what the fuck you can get for $20]. Silly. Also, I tried to make a joke about it earlier, but .. I've seen "In YOUR opinion" on this thread (and board) way too many times, so: If a person makes a statement that is obviously an opinion and if this person does not attribute the stated opinion to a third party, then isn't it clear that it's just the speaker's opinion? Is the phrase "In my opinion" necessary? You don't say things like, "In my opinion, Sonic Youth now has 4 band members." A fact is a fact and an opinion is an opinion. There is no need to qualify ANY of these, unless you're an idiot. So, please, enough of these "THAT'S YOUR OPINION!" No shit it is! Geez.

atsonicpark 11.08.2007 03:12 PM

ps: I'd probably pay $20 for Kim's crusty panies.

My point was that your opinion always seems to be so deeply heartfelt and personal, and I never, ever agree with you. So yeah, you should write "in my opinion" before everything you write! Ha!

atsonicpark 11.09.2007 03:48 PM

You should write "In my idiotic opinion" before everything you write then.
