New Electric Wizard Album
|
No, but I'm looking forward to it. I've heard a couple of songs and they're pretty promising.
This band is pretty much the best thing ever, I deeply regret that I didn't see them a year and a half ago when they played in finland. |
You may regret it, but your eardrums are pobably pretty relieved. The Wizard live is a PAINFULLY loud experience.
|
I saw them once and they were pretty incredible.
I'll be getting this for sure. |

That American tour was meant to be pretty legendary. The band apparantly loathed each other throughout, leading to an even greater on-stage intensity. |
witchcult today is marvelous!!!!
|
Thanks for the heads up!!
|
I've heard it once, and...it's not bad. Justin's singing I'm not sure about (I prefer his bellicose bellowing), but there's riffs aplenty, for sure.
|
I heard one track online and it was awesome. Very heavy. But then again I don't recall hearing any vocals, so either it was an instrumental or a demo track - or I just hadn't been listening properly. Whem I give the whole thing a listen I'll listen out for Justin's vocals.
|
I'll most likely be picking this album up.
I enjoyed "We Live" but can't say I've listened to it that many times. |
DR666 - I read the Jus Oborn interview in Terrorizer this lunchtime, and (unsurprisingly) he says he's disappointed with the "We Live" album. He also chats about his love for exploitation and sleaze culture. I can imagine the Wizard doing a soundtrack for a satanic biker film, though far more in the realm of Herschell Gordon Lewis than Kenneth Anger (I was going to mention the Al Adamson, um, classic "Satan's Sadists", but everyone knows about that old chestnut, don't they?). By the way, did you notice Jus sporting an SS badge on his jacket in the pictures? I feel a re-run of the last "Electric Wizard Frontman Wears Nazi Eagle On Jacket" controversy may well take place again in the letters page of "Terrorizer"...
|
I bought Witchcult Today eh... today.
Very sabbath-y (no shit...), not as thick and monolithic as, say, dopethrone, which is a bit downer as some of the songs on the album might have needed that. But still it's far more heavier than most of the other bands who are regarded as heavy. It's nice to hear oborn's cleaner singing for once, but yeah, his fuzzed out screaming fits better to this kind of stuff. Very nice tin foil finishing on the cover of the CD. I bet the vinyl pressings look a million times cooler. |
i thopught, after listening to witchcult a few more times, that it was great but really mellow...or as mellow as ew can get. still amazing.
and liz buckingham is very hot! |
I love the album. A few people have mentioned Jus' vocals but they don't sound that different from usual. The overall sound is far more layered than before although maybr the album does go on a little too long - which is hardly that great a criticism.
|
Their drummer used to come in my work on the odd occasion. Awesome guy. The album is nothing short of amazing.
|
The new split 12" with Reverend Bizarre (who do a Beherit cover) sounds pretty swell too! Tits!
|
It should be a rule or something not to bump a thread called "New Electric Wizard Album" when there is in fact no new Electric Wizard album.
Got me jumpy for a few seconds. |
its not a great album. cheesy fun (dunwitch hahapun). not great.
dopethrone is the shit |

And techically, it's a new album with half of its content being the work of EW. |
I bought the split with Reverend Bizarre at the EW show a couple of weeks ago in Tilburg. I like the EW song best, but I should give the RB side a few more spins.
On the subject of a new Electric Wizard album, they'll have a limited to 300 12" for sale exclusively at the Rise Above records anniversary thing in London in December. If anyone going there could get me a copy I'd appreciate it. "The line-up features a very rare headline performance from Electric Wizard (their first UK performance in several years), who will have an exclusive 12" vinyl on sale only at this gig. 300 copies will be available on the night and will not be on sale anywhere else." |
Also, from some blog:

ever since, witchcult hasn't been played around here as much and i feel like i'm not into reaching out for it. |
B R E A K I N G N E W S:
Electric Wizard put down their bongs for a couple of weeks to tour Europe! They're not playing anywhere close to me... I'm way too drunk right now, but I'm seriously considering an end-of-summer trip to one of the following places: 15.aug.2009 7:00 Jalometalli Metal Music Fest Oulu 28.aug.2009 20:00 TBA Paris 29.aug.2009 20:00 VNV Rock Attitude Festival Le Locle 30.aug.2009 20:00 Molotow Club Hamburg 31.aug.2009 20:00 Loppen Copenhagen 01.sep.2009 20:00 Betong Oslo 02.sep.2009 20:00 TBA TBA 03.sep.2009 20:00 White Trash Berlin 04.sep.2009 20:00 Unwound Club Padova 05.sep.2009 20:00 Le Grillen Colmar 06.sep.2009 20:00 JC the Klinker Aarschot 07.sep.2009 20:00 Islington Academy London 08.sep.2009 20:00 Whelan’s Dublin 09.sep.2009 20:00 The Limelight Belfast 10.sep.2009 20:00 Ivory Blacks Glasgow 11.sep.2009 20:00 Hare & Hounds Birmingham 12.sep.2009 20:00 Trinity Hall Bristol ![]() |
looking at my work schedule that probably means i could only go to hamburg or london. :(
unless i'd add another ridiculous reason to call in to work <-- see other thread. |
it somehow seems wrong seeing the Wizard in London. I want to see them in a forest.
|
Damnit, I'll be missing the only concert in finland as it is a part of a metal festival and therefore the tickets are too pricey.
|
fuck america

Well, jump now, because there will be new EW album: from rise above "Immediately prior to the release of 'Black Masses', the bands 7th full length album, Electric Wizard will embark on a short string of dates around Halloween 2010. Support on all shows will come from Moss October ...Thurs 28th Electric Ballroom London Fri 29th Oct Nouveau Casino Paris, Sat 30th Oct Underground Cologne Sun 31st Oct Burgerweeshuis Deventer" |
Good news indeed!

The Bristol date is in a de-sanctified church. Get me a ticket and you, sire, can have yourself some sofa space. |
Some bedbugs, you mean.
|
I'm pretty sure my spunk puddles would've drowned all of them years ago.

You mean a ticket and a time machine? That was in 2009, they're only doing 4 shows this time... lazy stoners. I'm seeing them on Halloween night! CAN IT GET ANY BETTER THAN THAT???? (apart from not having to go to fucking Deventer, that is?) BTW, release date for the new album is November 1st. I saw Moss earlier this year at Roadburn... brutal. |
yeah, I have the Sub-Templum 2lp. Judging by that, I'd expect Moss to bring cheer and joy for everyone.
Haven't listened it alot though. Kind of a heavy piece to sit through in one go. They'd probably deserve a thread of their own. |
:DDDDDDDDDDDDD
hopefully they announce some US dates, then i'll be REALLY excited. |
Quote:
Ah yeah, I thought it was familiar. I remember failing to get tickets to that. Quelle spazz. |
i like how the poster says that dublin is in the u.k.
|
![]() 1. Black Masses 2. Venus In Furs 3. Night Child 4. Patterns Of Evil 5. Satyr IX 6. Turn Off Your Mind 7. Scorpio Curse 8. Crypt Of Drugula very Wizard-esque song titles... nearly six more weeks, dammit. |
Is that a VU cover?
