I Need Ya'lls Help W/ Something

i'm finally able to record on my computer (that audacity program) and thinking about making a myspace music page to throw the crap on. it's not good mind you, i've never thought of myself as a musician per se: can't write a song, dont' even know chords on guitar, but dammit i like playing w/ the thing. i pretty much just do stuff i would classify as back ground music for films or soundtrack-y type stuff. sorry way off tangent: i need a name for the page! i have one i made a while ago but neve rdid anything w/ called the secret meeting (got it from a lee song), but apparently there's already a group called that (some horrendous goth/industrial/doom pop band or something). then i thought about JOCO (a play on the first 2 letters of my first and last name and my favorite drink SOCO), but alas there's a few people who are already using that name as well (some shitty "southern" rock band, and couple of shitty rappers). so i need a name, preferably 1 word and not pretensious sounding, lol. thank you for yr help my sonic youth friends.

ZEROpumpkins 01.10.2008 10:14 PM

lol nothing, i don't use the software, but it is a shit load better alternative to the piece of shit that is audacity, it is just preferencial that if people are going to record on free or very cheap sofware they may as well get the better one. i don't use it because i have to be able to use pro software for my job.

Sheriff Rhys Chatham 01.10.2008 10:17 PM

You know Termial Pharamcy I tried Reaper and I didn't really like it. Not sure if it's because I'm not used to it or what.

But for a name
How about Dirty Cop

it is the closest thing you will get to protools, or digital performer for so little. You have to use software you like but i was just putting forward an option that is a billion times better than audacity, and help people improve the aural quality of their recordings. in the end it really makes no difference to me what you use, but sooner or later you will want something more powerful and not have $1500 to pay for it.

avantgarde1 01.10.2008 10:25 PM

that sounds more rock-ish to me. i'm kind of looking for something like, shit i dont' really know. i really want it to be 1 word though. oh oh oh, kinda like jandek, maybe even a made up word as well. thanks for yr help though

StevOK 01.10.2008 10:39 PM

My friend and I made a myspace music page when we were drunk called MYSPACE KILLS. I can give you the login if you want, I don't use it and all it does is go back to my profile if you click anywhere on the page. Go look at it if you want: myspace.com/myspacekillsband

avantgarde1 01.10.2008 10:55 PM

lol, that picture of ya'll and cosby is hilarious.

Sheriff Rhys Chatham 01.10.2008 11:13 PM

What about
Through

terminal pharmacy 01.10.2008 11:16 PM

how about just your name

yeah i thought about that, but i dunno "Jonathon O'Connor" just doesn't have a nice ring to it. plus i think that's kinda gay, i'd rather have a seperate entity type thing for it.

SpectralJulianIsNotDead 01.10.2008 11:35 PM

What's so bad about Audacity beside it not being a real DAW?

avantgarde1 01.10.2008 11:36 PM

what's a DAW? i might just go w/ joco anyways, it's not like i'm gonna get famous or anything... nor will any of those other jackasses using that name for that matter, lol. also might look at some more lee song titles, but keep em coming anyways, something might strike my fancy.

jakeonguitar 01.11.2008 01:08 AM

Digital Audio Workstation.

I used Sony Acid for a while. It's not bad. Mainly loop based, with some nice mixing/mastering abilities. The recording on it is meh. It costs like $60 too. I think I still have my copy laying around. Haha.

avantgarde1 01.11.2008 05:02 PM

no one else wants to throw in their 2 cents?

my advice, redefine yourself as a musician, if it is music that you are creating. I am not here to offer criticism, just the advice. when a kid finger paints, it is in fact art, but he is not a painter, and so we do not hang it at the Getty Center, but on the fridge.

if you feel that your musical creations are worth putting up for the whole world to see, then perhaps it is time for you to see yourself as a musician rather then metaphysical dooming yourself through negative word-sound-power.

avantgarde1 01.11.2008 06:11 PM

i have no tidea what either of yr threads mean, but they sounded smart.

atari 2600 01.11.2008 06:36 PM

Those were not "threads", those were posts, but I'm not surprised at your choice of words; after all, you're yet another person who has testified at this board that they can't (or do not want to learn how to) make chord shapes on a guitar.

avantgarde1 01.11.2008 06:42 PM

atari, why are you such a douche?

No, a douche is a moron with a guitar that can't even make chords.
Wait, that's a "poseur." Yeah, that's it.

I can hardly see how this point can be argued, but if you would like to, go ahead and proceed in pure poseur douchebag fashion. Please, I'd like to read what you can come up with.

And please do stick to the point and refrain from crying to the board that I just neg-repped your sorry ass...and terminal pharmacy too.

Atari why do you have to be a prick to people all the time, anyone is allowed to play guitar there is no law saying that only people who can play chords can play a guitar. Music is a freeing and healthy past-time for people to have, you don't have to take it dead seriously, you can just do it for fun. Alot of the time on this board and on the old you attack new posters for no real reason, does it make you feel good about your self to do that. Sometime you post great stuff, articles etc and they are always a fascinating read, however, alot of the time you are a ass to people unnessecerilly. Avantegarde1 asked a question you don't have to give him shit over it.

atari 2600 01.11.2008 07:05 PM

There is no law, yeah. There is also no law against me making my well-founded and fucking common sense statement that people who can't make chords yet have owned a guitar for awhile are quite simply poseurs.

Gee, what's there not to get? Seems pretty straightforward and factual to me. I'm not the contrarian here. You fucking are. Don't try to spin this around on me, dipshit.

Oh, and please spare me any Sonic Youth argument. Sonic Youth tune differently in large part just to make chording easier. They play a lot of chords. Some "chords" they invent, but they also play chord-forms as well.
It's just that they sound different due to the alternate tunings and heavier string gauges which get a different tone out of the instrument. Thurston, Lee and Kim also learned standard tuning before they ever tuned any differently.

This whole garbage of "I don't need to learn chords to make music" is for idiots. It's like painting. Someone with no art skills may try to make an abstract expressionist painting, but unless you know color theory and life drawing, then the overwhelming chances are that your "art" is gonna suck.

i asked a simple question and you jumped on here and made a "douchey" comment about me, for no real reason. so because i decide to not learn chords on a guitar i'm a poseur? i asked you why yr such a douche because you always do things like that, it's not like i'm the only one on here who thinks yr a waste of sperm & eggs. and i don't even know what the fuck a neg rep is, i guess you'll probably make fun of that too. you my friend are indeed a douche bag.

atari 2600 01.11.2008 07:09 PM

Again, you are the douche. You "decided" not to learn chords?

Wow, atari, yr an asshole.

As for the band name, since you like Lee, "(Something) Revisited" which you can also switch out as (Something)ology?

lol, now you sound like a child. i never said i didn't know any chords (and if i did it was by accident), i just choose not to use them. although i can't tune a guitar, so i guess that makes me a poseur too, or maybe, just maybe it makes me tone deaf. i just find playing actual songs on guitar boring, i'm much more interested in the actual sound of the guitar.

avantgarde1 01.11.2008 07:13 PM

lol, i dont' feel the need to argue w/ him anymore, everyone knows he always does this and i get the general feeling nobody likes this guy. i'm willing to bet in real life he has no friends and cried himself to sleep at night. keep the names coming lil buddies.

atari 2600 01.11.2008 07:16 PM

What?

You jave no leg to stand on.

Have fun with your limited palette of musical expressions.

Have lots of motherfucking fun with your cacophony.

It's like someone saying, "well, you know, I'm a painter, but ah, I only fingerpaint."

You don't even wanna learn. With no knowledge of the chromatic scale or anything, one isn't even able to "jam the note" like Sonic Youth and so many other bands.

DOUCHE

koolthing 01.11.2008 07:16 PM

Hey Jonathon,
Sounds like what i'm doing (my page is www.myspace.com/aomse). If there wasn't the distance between us I'd ask if you wanted to put a group together.

atari 2600 01.11.2008 07:18 PM

Another moron who refused to learn how to play a guitar even in any rudimentary sense of the word "play."

Congratulations!

Funny thing is that the majority of anyone reading this will agree with me, it's just that they are too milquetoast to do so.

blah blah blah, we are done w/ you kind sir.

atari 2600 01.11.2008 07:24 PM

You know what's really sad? It's sad that you think so very little of yourself that in your mind you've made learning to play chords and moveable barres into such a herculean task.
It isn't that hard with a little stick-to-it-ness.
But to a sap like you, it seems impossible. It's a fucking howl. And because you feel you could never learn to play a guitar, you pluck at an untuned guitar like a village fucking idiot.

Hopefully one day you'll know that I'm right and thank me for kicking you in the ass. And if that day ever comes, I expect an apology.

on the contrary Atari, it seems to be you who thinks so little of himself, that would be why you come on a fucking bulletin board and pick on people, you really are a negative cunt, so much so that when someone asks for suggestions you give them shit. I think you may need to see a psychoanalyst to work out your problems mate. Obviously you are some sort of guitar genius as well, you must be better than everybody else on the board and infact the world. Oh... I get it you are old but a good guitarist not only do you have an academic chip on your shoulder but you have musical one as well, maybe your abilites were or are fantastic but you can never get anywhere with them, or maybe that it is you are such a cunt that no-one wants to play in a band with you.

atari 2600 01.11.2008 07:37 PM

Hey, you're really good, you should work for the Republicans.

Hey at least I've never made dumbass statements like, "well, I just decided that I would never learn chords." I'll leave declarations like that to the morons.

Seems you (intentionally?) missed this
