Ryanair does flights Stansted to Brno for less than 40 quid return. If I didn't have other commitments (the biggest one of them is called "work"), I'd have booked my flight already.

Lemme check first. I've got the info from another discussion server from one friend of mine, that's organising the gig. But she was speaking about it as a sure thing, and posters are already printed and all that, so I guess there should be no problem.

Text of Light - improvised music for silent movie by Stan Brakhage.

Lee Ranaldo (Sonic Youth) a Alan Licht - guitars

In 1974, Stan Brakhage, an independent American movie maker, presented his notable film Text of Light, the subject matter whereof is the light itself. In 2001, a New York group of the same name was established, focused above all on music improvisations to this film. Centered around Lee Ranadlo, the popular Sonic Youth guitar player, the group stands on the frontier of improvising and rock music, the group and represents current radical streams.

I'll probably take my roommate's car, an old Felicia :) and I can pick you up at the airport or whatever. I'll most likely come back straight after the gig, since it's like 1,5 hour driving distance from Bratislava and since I have to be at work the next day.

I just need to know if Lee is definitely playing. nothing in the calendar section yet. SY finish Australia tour on 23rd. so maybe he's going to spend the rest of 9 days in between in Europe instead going to US and back. who knows.

I rang to the promoter, try to contact the guy in charge with running it, but he's gone from office by now. I'll ring him tomorrow. I'll ask him if he knows more about Lee is playing for sure or no. I will ask him about the taping policy as well. wouldn't like to do stealth recording, coz this time I'd bring video camera (hopefuly).

I just came back home after I dropped greenlight at his home. The concert was so great !! no, not just great, but great! we took a picture with lee, shook his hand and greenlight had a brief chat with him about things I have no clue about (such as SYRs and the like :) ). Lee seemed to be in a very good mood and keep answering our annoying questions with very friendly and polite manners. And when I asked if I could take pics of his pedals, he said: "It's perfectly fine. They're beautiful, aren't they?".

Anyway, the show was amazing, maybe a little too short but wonderful. I took some nice pics and greenlight taped and VHSed the whole show so you can expect some material shortly.

And thanks for great company, greenlight. I hope we'll get properly drunk when I come see you in Dublin!

it was bit scary moment there, when your car stopped just like that on the crossing in the middle of town (which we didn´t even know that well) and I had to push it on the side of the road in the middle of traffic, hehe. I thought that´s it. 30 min. to start, we don´t even know where we are and car is fucked...that´s it, we wont make it. thanks god that engine started after like 10th. attempt.

everything changed when we walked in (finally) and first person we´ve met was Lee and then pretend to be students (but with no student card on us, hehe) and get half price tickets and we had that great czech lager. I started to feel waaay better.

gig was amazing. it lasted for about an hour. I´m listening to it know. it has some great fucking moments. typical ToL but. really small venue. how many people was there? I´d say around 150. very intimate. we had cool spot. right in front of Lee, like 2 meters from him. it was cool when he came so close to us and started to "drag his guitar around".

yeah, we´ve made some nice pictures, audio and video. it´ll be shared soon.

oh yeah, Lee said that there´s not much to tell about their new album right now, coz they haven´t started to write it yet, but two SYR´s are comming out this year (one will be with Mats Gustafsson), so...

Glad you had a good time, guys. I wish I could have been there with you.

ive always wanted to visit brno. its got a classic motor racing heritage, along with the killer circuit on the outskirts, id love to drive the street track in the city that they used for preww2 races. ... any way.. t.o.l.......
