Kosovo Declares Independance

This is great. They have split from Serbia, and there independance is being recognized by the U.S. and and E.U. I guess its a great day to be Albanian. Congradulations to Kosovo, and thier people.

SYRFox 02.18.2008 03:03 AM

Yeah, it's great for them. Let's just hope that it doesn't turn to another war, I heard Serbia and Russia already had expressed their disagreement and that some fights already happened yesterday...

_slavo_ 02.18.2008 03:59 AM

Kosovo is a timebomb. This might lead to very delicate issues in the near future. To be honest, I don't think it's a clever move.

su x* 02.18.2008 05:39 AM

oh my
well at least we know other countries will help if anythign happens, just like with the old yougoslavia wars

(yes, irony)

king_buzzo 02.18.2008 08:32 AM

me being the only serbian on here, its really cool that its separate. i dont even know if our government approved but i dont think so, theyre being dicks about this saying there will be no serbia without kosovo and shit like that. i mean wtf, its stopping serbia from going into the eu. this should be a positive thing and stupid serbs are denying it.

█████████ 02.18.2008 09:12 AM

unlitateral declarations of independance are never cool.

i didn't know there were any other kinds, usually, in human history.

anyway this seems like an interesting turn of events but i don't know what to think of it. interesting to hear buzzo's point of view.

back in... whenever clinton bombed the fuck out of serbia... i was against u.s. intervention in other country's affairs. of course this was the butcher milosevic, the ethnic cleanser, so things were not so clear cut.

historically this was serbia, and just because the ethnic composition changes you get to make your own country? i don't know if i agree. it's like if latinos became the majority in massachusetts and decided they'd become independent with the support of, say, mexico and spain.

of course milosevic's "efforts" were not the first "ethnic cleansing" in the area, turks and albanians had done that before. so this is only another chapter in the long history of clusterfucks in this region.

now , the funny part-- the KLA are also murderers, yet they got U.S. support-- and will kosovo become the next terrorist-sponsoring islamist state? well that wasn't funny haha. funny weird i meant.

wasn't this what happened with texas? residents decided they wanted to be an independent country, the u.s. supported and were eventually integrated.

i mean, you said, unilateral independence is never good, but cmon, most of the world got its independence this way, that is all.

yes, and i think it's completely fucked, like texas was fucked.

and yes the u.s. supported saddam and the taliban etc.

well, kosovo is next. right now it's a honeymoon (they fly u.s. flags), but in a few years?

█████████ 02.18.2008 12:18 PM

i mean, i said, unilateral declarations of indpependance are never cool, there's going to more contestation than if it was a bilateral declaration of independance, that is all.

i think he meant "cool" differently than you did. hence the confusion.

█████████ 02.18.2008 12:32 PM

he did.

fucked up? i wouldn't say fucked up, awkward maybe; then again, that whole area of dispute has been awkward.

few years? try a few months.

and to add to jico's discussion, remember that many french and some british colonies got bilateral...well, diplomatic independences; doesn't mean they weren't conflicted, though.

█████████ 02.18.2008 12:41 PM

yes, yes i know that.
i didnt said that.

Everyneurotic 02.18.2008 12:42 PM

politically, achieving independences is one of the toughest things in life.

█████████ 02.18.2008 12:44 PM

and in long term i doubt they will benefit from this.

Everyneurotic 02.18.2008 12:50 PM

doesn't mean they can, but it's tough. it takes a long time to reap benefit and goodwill for the residents.

it doesn't look good though, at least not for the next couple of years.
