R.E.M.'s Michael Stipe Comes Out
 

In the most, you don't say music news of the day Michael Stipe says he's gay. I guess he had already said he was bi-sexual about ten years ago. Was he confused or did he just think it was safer,(perhaps cooler) if he said he was bi-sexual as opposed to homosexual? Anyways here's the official AOL page on it if you care to read it.

i always knew he was gay. kinda why i listened to the band in the first place.

He talked about ("finally decided to speak out about") being queer on the REM 'Behind the Music' special.. that was around the time 'Up' was released.. so 1998?

I am going to listen Automatic for the People now.

Already knew he was bi but always figured he was more on the gay side. I liked to think his ambiguous (even to him) sexual nature fueled his beautifully personal lyrics in a way. Michael Stipe has always been one of my heroes and I'm glad he's out with it.

But as a side note, I'm not really feeling the new R.E.M. "Houston" is the only stand out.

I'm shit scared of listening to Accelerate. Really don't want it to be rubbish but i've got a really bad feeling. Around the Sun was shit, and a little piece of me dies everytime i hear it (!)

Don't worry, Accelerate sounds nothing like Around The Sun.

I thought that he had come out a few years ago. And in any case, why coming out now would be beneficial for this man? He looks like he's dying with aids.

My brother shared a cab ride in NYC one time in the late 80s with the guy and he said Stipe reeked with the foulest body odor ever, like he hadn't bathed in months.
