I Am Not Afraid of You and I Will Beat Your Ass

New Yo La Tengo album out September 12. Anyone excited? You can go to their site to download one of the songs off of it. Sounds good!

krastian 05.21.2006 03:01 PM

Yeah I'm pretty pumped. I've been jonesing for another Yo La Tengo show for a few years now.

finding nobody 05.21.2006 03:30 PM

i was about to challenge you to a fight!

sounds cool, all i've really heard by yo la tnego is 'prisoners of love' but its very very good.
i always connected them to sonic youth

noisemachine 05.24.2006 12:11 PM

I guess theres not a lot of Yo La Tengo fans here?

SpectralJulianIsNotDead 05.24.2006 12:13 PM

I saw Yo La Tengo live in a record shop in 2004. It was a 5 dollar show. Didn't do much for me.

Glice 05.24.2006 12:28 PM

Good band. But easy to forget. They have that meek thing that means people forget about them.

Spiritual Amnesia 05.25.2006 04:55 AM

i love them so much.

Why do you have to read my mind so often?Even though i like them i never remember anything they do, and that includes me not even remembering what any of their albums are called. It could be that that kind of geeky ''indie schmindie say hello to your sister'' thing puts me off them for not being a more robust type of band but,as i've said,i like them and i don't mean them no harm(as if they'd give a toss anyway)

Glice 05.25.2006 05:48 AM

Sorry, shan't happen again. I think [checks which band are being talked about at top of thread] Yo La Tengo are somewhat like musical teflon, no memories stick to them. Although they are good.

trainyard bliss 05.25.2006 02:09 PM

i remember them. how could you forget "and then nothing turned itself inside-out"?

whorefrost 05.25.2006 02:53 PM

great band, always psyched to see a new LP. summer sun was decent, and then nothing turned itself out was incredible.... i can hear the heart was fucking great as well... seen them live three times as well... first time i saw them remains one of my greatest gigs of all time...

youthoftomorrow 05.25.2006 10:08 PM

i bought Prisoners of Love based on a few songs but was rather disappointed. i listened to it once, maybe twice. i gave it to my bro after all his cds were stolen in the Denver airport.

Don't base your opinion of them on that compilation! They are definitely an album band. You have to hear some of the albums in their entirety.

Check out:
And Then Nothing Turned Itself Inside Out
Electr-o-pura
I Can Hear the Heart Beating as One
Painful

shentov 05.27.2006 06:40 AM

i like yo la tengo. they have dreamy melodies.

True - fantastic album. But when Summer Sun came out, they dropped off my radar. I've heard a few songs off their new album and it sounds promising, but Yo La Tengo is one of those bands that easily fall back into the woodwork. Half their music is ace, the other half 'meh,' so you tend to forget them unless confronted directly with them.

nomadicfollower 05.28.2006 07:17 PM

Awesome. Didn't know they were coming out with a new album, but that is one of the best titles for an album ever.

finding nobody 05.28.2006 07:21 PM

i think little eyes and stolkhome syndrome are my two favorite songs by yo la tengo

IntoTheGroovey 05.29.2006 03:09 AM

Been meaning to pick up one of their cds but I've already spent all my arms and legs on other cd's at the local (er, only) overpriced CD shop.

finding nobody 08.09.2006 09:47 PM

i just downloaded this. i like it alot

Pax Americana 08.10.2006 12:15 AM

That album title makes me smile.

drrrtyboots 08.10.2006 12:26 AM

The band makes me smile! Ira is such a great guitarist.

gmku 08.10.2006 09:33 AM

I love Yo La Tengo. I'm looking forward to checking this one out.

I have to agree with what somebody said above. After And then Nothing..., they lost some of their spark, for me. I hope this is a return to form.

From the promo copy, it seems they make somewhat of a return to their electric trio form while still doing a lot of the things they did on summer sun.

timtimtim 08.14.2006 05:45 PM

The songs I've heard from it sound pretty good.
I've always thought that more sonic youth fans would be yo la tengo fans

baby bulldog 08.14.2006 06:35 PM

I saw em on their last American tour and was pretty blown away. The show was nearly 2 and a half hours.Switching off instruments and shit. They were great.Did an endless cover of Sun Ra's Nuclear War.Georgia can really pound the skins.

gmku 09.12.2006 09:52 AM

I'm getting this today if I can find it on vinyl. Anyone else?

I love this band.

gmku 09.12.2006 10:02 AM

Must not be many YLT fans among the SY set.

lunberg 09.12.2006 11:54 AM

Be reassured I'm not the hugest YLT fan out there but I'll check it out soon enough (not sure it's in record stores in france though...).

I like their earlier sound better though (stuuf like painful electr o pura...).

gmku 09.12.2006 11:56 AM

I've read reviews that say some of the new one sounds like painful, etc.

gmku 09.12.2006 12:11 PM

& I figure any band who appears on the season finale of Gilmore Girls is deserving of my attention.

Tickerwelly 09.13.2006 02:03 PM

I can't believe Summer Son gets shit on so much. That has to be my favorite thing they've done so far. I haven't heard the new one yet though.

gmku 09.13.2006 02:09 PM

Seriously? Do you have most of the rest? I keep seeing that one in the vinyl bins (Summer...), but I've always passed on it based on how it's been shat upon.

krastian 09.13.2006 11:47 PM

I really like it even though it seems a bit long......more bang for yr buck though.

RockerNino 09.14.2006 12:56 AM

the first track is especially good.

cryptowonderdruginvogue 09.14.2006 02:36 AM

The new album is deinfetly closer to the Painful/Electr-o-pura sound than the last two (neither of which I particuarly liked). The closest comparison would be to I Can Feel the Heart Beating as One. It is definetly a great album.

cryptowonderdruginvogue 09.14.2006 06:28 PM

i really like the album

schizophrenicroom 09.14.2006 07:21 PM

"pass the hatchet" is my favorite. it's nice and long. it's a nice solid album.

best yo la tengo song is "drug test", though. overall.

_slavo_ 09.15.2006 03:07 AM

Painful is a wonderful CD
one of my overally favourite CDs of all time

Gulasch Noir 09.15.2006 04:24 AM

Great! My favortie Yo la tengo albums so far:
painful
may i sing with me
and then nothing turned itself inside-out
summer sun
