Is the amount of Lee tracks on an SY album proportionate to how good the album is?

Not my opinion, just a discussion point. And its not to say Lee's tracks are the best of SY. but there certainly is alot to be said for Lee Ranaldo tracks, is it just coincidence that theres three Lee tracks on Daydream Nation - 'the' SY album, and on Experimental Jet Set, which is in alot of posters' opinions one of the weakest albums, there are none?

screamingskull 05.02.2008 02:54 PM

Karen Revisited is the best song on Murray Street, Hoarfrost is the best song on A Thousand Leaves.

This Is Not Here 05.02.2008 03:09 PM

Karen Revisited is also the longest track from the album I consider to be their masterpeice. And because Murray St has so few tracks it is a large proportion of the album. Conincidence? COINCIDENCE?!!

screamingskull 05.02.2008 03:12 PM

Murray Street is beautiful from start of finish though, its the last amazing album they did, and their best since since Washing Machine.

ha ha.
no, karen koltrane.

This Is Not Here 05.02.2008 03:16 PM

Lee's tracks save A Thousand Leaves for me, he has two tracks, more than the usual 1 on later SY albums, but I still count ATL as one of the poorest.

o'connor 05.02.2008 03:20 PM

hoarfrost, mote, karen koltrane! i don't think it matters about the amount of lee's stuff, so long as it's there. and by there i mean on teh album.

Rob Instigator 05.02.2008 03:23 PM

lee is my fave.

SYRFox 05.02.2008 03:33 PM

NYC GHOSTS & FLOWERS

I can't even tell how much I love that song

Derek 05.02.2008 03:38 PM

Lee's tracks are usually the most epic.

Wonderful, isn't it? In fact, a mate of mine requested a Sonic education, and I sent him all the big tracks, y'know, Teenage Riot, Silver Rocker, Bull in the Heather, Kool Thing. He liked them, but it was when I sent him NYC Ghosts and Flowers that he was really blown away - To the extent that he went out bought the album as his first SY CD the next day. Says something, non?

✌➬ 05.02.2008 03:51 PM

Lee's songs are also my favorite, that man can do no wrong.

HECKLER SPRAY 05.02.2008 03:52 PM

PAULYBEE2656 05.02.2008 04:23 PM

yes, i knew i missed one of em. rain king rules!

nicfit 05.02.2008 04:26 PM

rain king is one of my all time favs. Very few people mention it among their fav songs. well, I videotaped the live version I saw, so I'm pretty happy.

SonicBebs 05.02.2008 04:44 PM

Skip Tracer is awsome too. There's not 1 Lee song i dont like. Theres plenty of Thurston songs i dont like

batreleaser 05.02.2008 05:03 PM

ive always liked thurston's voice better, but i like lee's lyrics more (very beat like, always beautiful), and theyre guitar playing you could make a case for both of them being better. i dont know, theyre both so integral to the band, they both rule.

Everyneurotic 05.02.2008 05:36 PM

no, definitely not; on some albums, the weak song has been lee's.

Your right there, I really think Experimental Jet Set could have been saved by a Lee track, some of his beautiful lyrics to balance out Thurston's bizarre foray into brainless neandathol (its midnight, i'm beyond caring about spelling)lyricism; lets not forget Self-Obsessed "pwarty pwarty pwarty, party all the time!". They've never needed Lee more.

fugazifan 05.02.2008 07:21 PM

bad moon rising had no lee tracks and that is their best (or second best following sister) album. CIS also had no lee songs.
so i belive that you are mistaken sir

evolontko 05.02.2008 07:30 PM

LEE IS FREE :)

Death & the Maiden 05.02.2008 08:50 PM

Most SY albums are improved by a Lee track. Daydream Nation wouldn't have been as good without the 3 Lee tracks. Experimental Jet Set... would have been improved by a Lee track.
Anyway, SY have still done amazing albums without Lee tracks - Bad Moon Rising, Confusion Is Sex.

Agreed, ATL is an alright album, though is massively overrated by fans.

CIS: Lee is Free

Sonic Youth 37 05.02.2008 09:02 PM

DDN has 3 Lee tracks. Enough said.

Dirty would have been 1,000 times better if they had used "Genetic" instead of "Nic Fit", no offense to nicfit.

Everyneurotic 05.02.2008 09:09 PM

ddn is far from my favorite sy album.

nic fit is probably my favorite sy cover.

i want to know yr opinion isn't genetic sound different than all dirty it's not an atack cause i love this song just question cause maybe i feel this song in the different way

Sonic Youth 37 05.02.2008 09:13 PM

Genetic is different from everything else on the album . It's a great Lee song, so I guess that's why I think it should have been included.

Everyneurotic 05.02.2008 09:15 PM

dirty is very versatile, there's not a sound, it's tons of sounds; so genetic would have fitted anyway.

Yeah, if it wasn't for that Lee track it probably would've been an EP.

i second that

ZEROpumpkins 05.03.2008 03:53 AM

Wrong

This Is Not Here 05.03.2008 04:15 AM

No, they could name a track 'Thuston Is Free' and have lyrics written and sung by Kim, doesn't make it a Thurston track does it?

excactly. for all we know lee could have writen the intro to bad moon rising-that does not make it a "lee track"

ZEROpumpkins 05.03.2008 04:57 AM

I'm just stirring. But Lee is free IS a Lee track.
