I wish I had a clarinet...

I used to play clarinet BUT THEN I GAVE IT UP UGHH

and I don't own a clarinet anymore :(

Derek 05.16.2008 05:43 PM

Also to mention that I was 12 when I gave it up, but now I'm into composition.

And that clarinet is the sweetest sounding instrument ever.

o'connor 05.16.2008 05:51 PM

dont' know about swetest ever but it does sound heavenly

Danny Himself 05.16.2008 06:08 PM

I love to hear a clarinet in music. It's so solemn and sure-sounding, it's a great compliment to an acoustic guitar and a double bass. It's one of those instruments that just sounds like it really has a soul in it, and in every note that is played a truth is revealed.

Lurker 05.16.2008 06:18 PM

I wished I played the clarinet.

LittlePuppetBoy 05.16.2008 06:19 PM

My mother plays it. Sounds like a dying goose.

Lurker 05.16.2008 06:21 PM

What? The clarinet or your mother?

Clearly she doesn't play it very well.

pbradley 05.16.2008 06:37 PM

I once played percussion.

And then I gave up on that and bought a bass guitar. Far superior exchange.

thats ok, clarinet sucks, you need to get a bad ass american instrument, like the guitarron!

PAULYBEE2656 05.17.2008 06:56 AM

erm, the guitarron is a mexican traditional instrument is it not?????

demonrail666 05.17.2008 07:59 AM

The recorder is surely the Conan the Barbarian of wind instruments.

Derek 05.17.2008 09:02 AM

Also to note that I can play any woodwind instrument.

Ciccone Warhol Monroe 05.17.2008 10:29 AM

The clarinet.

But she has gotten a lot better at it (she used to have a crappy reed).

EMMAh 05.17.2008 01:57 PM

I started to learn clarinet but stopped to learn the flute. I like the flute better.
From what I understand my mom gave the clarinet to my aunt for my cousin to learn.

Everyneurotic 05.17.2008 02:22 PM

i want wood and brass instruments.

Glice 05.17.2008 02:36 PM

I play clarinet. It's a troublesome instrument. It's fairly easy to get a nice sound out of it, and I can play across three-and-a-bit octaves with relative ease, but it seems like you have to play for a million years to get beyond that, which I haven't found time for yet.

Diego María de la Concepción Juan Nepomuceno Estanislao de la Rivera y Barrientos Acosta y Rodríguez to give him his full name!

pbradley 05.17.2008 05:29 PM

Most people I know picked up an instrument for school when they were a kid. I picked up percussion (then of course regretting later for something more interesting) and my brother played the violin. A friend of mine played and still plays the cello fairly well.

I played recorder and piano. I can't remember why, for some reason I wasn't allowed to learn instruments other than piano (which I grew to hate) at secondary school. I really wanted to play violin, but I think I might have offended the violin teacher in my school by being male (all of the violin students were female). Shame really, I could've saved myself a lot of hassle in my late-teens if I didn't have to teach myself to read music for instruments other than piano.

I really, really suck at piano now.

copper 05.17.2008 05:36 PM

I almost did but I thought it would be border-line pretentious under the circumstances..

thats not true, I used to play in this blues group with this dude who carried a set of like eight of those motherfuckers, and let me tell you, he was bad! I was lead guitar and never got one solo cuz this dude was so damn good I could not possibly contest, and it was quite the priviledge actually to accent his stuff with some leads. a lot of fun and energy.

Oh.

And yeah, of course it can sound great if you are skilled at it but how many people who have harmonicas really go out of the way to get better at it?

dude, didn't you get that it was a joke from the beginning? though actually, pythagoras himself warned his followers not to play woodwind instruments, as he believed them to be of the devil.

It depends where it began.

What? That was the joke? Are telling me God's good creation is a joke? Or have you completely gone mad?

Glice 05.17.2008 07:55 PM

Clarinet, as a reeded instrument, precedes harmonica.

Interestingly, while most instruments belong to a specific group (woodwind, brass, percussion etc) harmonica belongs to the group of instruments, largely unrelated, known as 'shit'.

*Edit - or, to give it its full name 'shit instruments that, no matter that there may be rare instances of them not sounding like shit, will always be shit'. In this group it is joined by the melodica.
