No battle for me, Cantanky, this band always come to mind when I think about music on drugs.
This one and Nirvana...

Velvet Underground are probably the ultimate but Royal Trux are pretty good at drugs/music.

MellySingsDoom 06.11.2008 07:47 AM

13th Floor Elevators

batreleaser 06.11.2008 07:50 AM

this is kinda tough considering how many musicians use drugs, but as far as bands that detail their use in their music (or the dudes that are just known for doing ridiculous amounts of drugs):

the stooges
the velvets
royal trux
rat bastard
early pink floyd
bardo pond
spacemen 3
the jesus and mary chain
ol dirty bastard
harry pussy
early and 70s miles davis (on the corner is prolly the best soundtrack to shooting dope i can think of)
flipper
charlie parker
early mc5
jimi hendrix
sly and family stone
parliament funkadelic
james brown
early coltrane
the dwarves
eyehategod
black sabbath
early earth (check inside cover of 2, or was it phase 3?, either way, all those pills)
anal cunt
cannabis corpse (funny cannibal corpse joke band with the members of municipal waste, they talk about weed instead of dying, obviously)
sleep
xrin arms
cage (the white guy rapper who got hospitalized in the looney bin for abusing shitloads of pcp and crack and heroin and whatever the fuck else, theyre making a movie about him and shia lebeouf is going to play him HAHAHAHAH)
necro (the other whiteguy rapper who does lots of drugs)
eminem (and another white guy rapper, ever heard the drug ballad? that song kinda sums up my freshman year of colege)

i suppose thats enough

i wanna say bands like can, faust, neu!, and tangerine dream, because thats my favorite shit to get stoned to, but i have no idea if they were into drugs.

sarramkrop 06.11.2008 07:52 AM

Sly Stone!

demonrail666 06.11.2008 07:52 AM

definitely a good call on the Mary Chain. Psychocandy is a TOTAL drug album.

I loved how the BBC banned Some Candy Talking because of it's lyrics, which the band claimed had nothing to do with drugs at all. Hmm, not sure about that one Jim:

I'm going down to the place tonight
To see if I can get a taste tonight
A taste of something warm and sweet
That shivers your bones and rises to your heat

I'm going down to the place tonight
The damp and hungry place tonight
Should all the stars shine in the sky
They couldn't outshine your sparkling eyes
But it's so hard to be the one
To touch and tease and to do it all for fun
But it's too much for a young heart to take
Cause hearts are the easiest things you could break

And I talk to the filth and I walk to the door
I'm knee deep in myself
But I want to get more of that stuff
Of that stuff

Some candy talking
Talk

And I want
And I want
Some candy talking

Some candy talk

I love the way she's walking
I love the way she's talking
It's just the way she's walking
It's just the way she's talking

And I need
All that stuff
Give me some
Of that stuff
I want your candy. I want your candy
And I need
Give me some
Of your stuff
Give me some
I want your candy. I want your candy.
I want your candy. I want your candy.
I want stuff

Cantankerous 06.11.2008 07:53 AM

smaaaaack

batreleaser 06.11.2008 07:54 AM

oh shit, how come no ones said the butthole surfers yet? also, early flaming lips. helios creed/chrome (from wikipedia, "Helios has said that he invented his trademark sound while trying to replicate the sound he heard in his head while "listening to Black Sabbath on LSD on headphones when I was a teenager.""). pantera. cherubs.

well, no doubt about it, musicians like getting high.

sarramkrop 06.11.2008 07:54 AM

That's a song about going to buy a late night kebab, did you not get it?

Cantankerous 06.11.2008 07:54 AM

batreleaser 06.11.2008 07:56 AM

"...we're black"

blunderbuss 06.11.2008 08:03 AM

Anything that Mark Lanegan has ever been involved with (except - possibly - the stuff with Isobel Campbell).

batreleaser 06.11.2008 08:03 AM

karou abe, one of my favorite free jazz artists and saxophonists ever, died from drug and alcohol abuse at a tragically early age, before japanese avant-jazz started to get recognition, so he applies.

sarramkrop 06.11.2008 08:04 AM

Ok, whatever. You know the score on this thread.

batreleaser 06.11.2008 08:05 AM

the meat puppets were into drugs right? anyways, their music is goot to get stoned and drive with.

Cantankerous 06.11.2008 08:07 AM

you can be in a band and do drugs and not be associated with drugs.
don't list every band that does drugs.

batreleaser 06.11.2008 08:09 AM

this thread rules

sarramkrop 06.11.2008 08:15 AM

Sly Stone's ''Runnin Away'' is one of the best songs about drugs and street life ever written.

i stand by this statement because pink floyd didn't do nearly the shit that people said. i think roger waters did acid like twice ever because the second time he ended up in the middle of 8th avenue traffic or something like that. but he did smoke weed all the time.

sarramkrop 06.11.2008 08:18 AM

To get away
Ha! Ha! Ha! Ha!
You're wearing out your shoes
Look at you foolin' you

Making blues of day and night
Hee! Hee! Hee! Hee!
You're stretching out your dues
Look at you fooling you

The shorter cut is quicker but
Ha! Ha! Ha! Ha!
Time is here to stay
Look at you fooling you

The deeper in debt
The harder you bet
Hee! Hee! Hee! Hee!
Need more room to play
Look at you fooling you

Another day
You're farther away
Ha! Ha! Ha! Ha!
A longer trip back home

blunderbuss 06.11.2008 08:21 AM

I'm taking the thread as being that the band's music is very very clearly influenced by the drugs that they take. Is that right, Mr Sarramkrop?

sarramkrop 06.11.2008 08:22 AM

You are very right.

blunderbuss 06.11.2008 08:23 AM

Thank you. Where's my prize?

Happy Mondays
Stone Roses
Charlatans
All the rest of those shitty baggy bands

PAULYBEE2656 06.11.2008 08:24 AM

erm, strange thead.. a list of favourite bands that take drugs... hmmm, let me see...

batreleaser 06.11.2008 08:26 AM

id still say pink floyd have an association with drugs despite how much acid roger waters did. i mean, theyre entire image was psychedelia based. 'live at pompei' is one of the coolest things to watch while tripping. i mean, i might be wrong but thats always been my conception of them.
