Sunburned Hand of The Man
It was due to a kind soul on here in the "Post rare records" thread that i discovered this group through the "Jaybird" release which is one of the most enjoyable things i have heard in a long time, and ive since got Z (which was so different i think i was kinda thrown and i didnt really like it)
so where next? |
he only record ive heard by them that ive liked is 'headdress', which i fucking loved. i actually had them pegged as the band to watch after that one. but after that there records seemed so scattered and lacking in focus that i totally lost interest. so id go with headdress.
|
headdress
earth do eagles do and that's about it, most of it is random hippie jams, if you heard two or three of their releases, you've heard 99% percent of their discography. |
I've only heard "Headdress", but that alone is an astounding record. Which leaves one wondering what all have they done. & which I'm guessing Everneurotic is right, not much to fill a long discography.
|
headdress is okay...
|
see them live, iain knows about their records, ask him.
|
Saw them about a month ago and it was fucking amazing - probably the best gig I've seen yet this year.
Listened to about 4 of their albums afterwards and they were all pretty dismal. Will check out Headdress though... |
Haha, I heard that the story a lot .
|
Only heard headdress, it's good.

Unmuzzled Ox - Sunburned w. Flaherty cassette on Ecstatic Peace is ace

didn't something happen with this band.. they split up, and the founder of the band left (he posted on here, if i remember correctly) and sold a bunch of rare full band recordings and then the rest of the band dropped the "hand of the man" part of the band, or something...? Either way, I haven't heard anything about them in forever.
|
Chad Cooper left but the band didn't split, it's explained here
It's been a bit of a quiet year for sbhotm they've only had 1 or 2 releases that i can think of. |
The latest Manhand release just arrived, i also got a couple of freebies including a poster and a picture (self portrait?) by John Moloney.

i like them a lot. Not only Headdress is worth a listen (this one in particular though), but also Jaybird, No Magic Man or Complexion for example.
|
no "random hippie jams" btw

i try not to think about it :o. a lot of the time i buy straight from the band and it's pretty reasonable but some of the older and more rare releases can be expensive on ebay. i have no idea really how much it all cost or what it's worth but i don't plan on selling it. |
Thats a hefty haul Stu, what sort of percentage is that of the total canon?
|

i dunno maybe 90% or more. |

I see the 11:29 LP here, just caught most of their set the other night opening for mv/ee, they totally kill. Stoked to see them 2x this weekend. Also see a D Charles Speer 7", this connects NNCK with Sunburned, but really, Marc Orleans was in bands before sunburned. |
What's their best from the hardcore collector's perspective?
|
i don't think i could pick just one release, the ones i like the most are:
London Zero Fire Escape A Jaybird Headdress Wildanimal Loose Bugs Mind Of A Brother also these are also high on my list: The Secret In Disquise No Magic Man Close To The Bone Magnetic Drugs |

i'm missing: Earth Do Eagles Do (cd-r) Zample Vol.2 (cd-r) Sunburned/Bill Nace (cassette) EDIT: i've now got this Live at eagles nest (dvd-r) Do it (book) Do it pt.1 (dvd-r) Exit Pigs (cassette) and also these manhand releases: F.A. Nettelbeck - The More I Drink The Better You Look (cd-r) F.A. Nettelbeck - Killing Jar (cd-r) so if anyone can help me out with these i'd be very grateful |
Some Kind Soul has posted a Sunburned vhs release on youtube, and here it is
Its a QBICO video, apparently |

kool! i have it on dvdr/cdr (Sopra L'Influsso) hat and bread should be pleased if he sees this though as i remember him saying his dvd didn't work properly http://www.sonicyouth.com/gossip/sho...ostcount=21382 EDIT: maybe the vhs is shorter in length as the dvdr i have of this is over 58 minutes long and this youtube video is only about 21 minutes. EDIT#2: according to discogs both vhs and dvdr copies are around 60 minutes long... |
Stu, that's quite the haul of SBotM you've managed to collect.
i have a couple of the early Manhand cdrs, but i think ended up misplacing one...magnetic drugs, maybe? got a few LPs scattered about too. i am lucky in that i get to see them on some sort of regular basis, being in Boston. |
All I have is this.
![]() what the hell is it? black labels, white cover with paper glued onto it. |
all I have is this.
