The Beach Boys
There has never ever been a thread on this site about Taken as Needed for Pain. Ever. That's fucked.

Thanks for the info.

fuck, Now you have ruined a perfectly good message board by intrducing mainstream america's all time favorite shit band, the beach boys.
|
Mainstream America's all-time shit band is surely this lot of twatmasters:

Yes, tunes and decent singing voices, eh? Who would ever like that? And to top it all off, they're not even piss-ugly. Some people have no shame.
|
Is it a faux pas to say that I actually prefer the surf stuff to "Smile", "Pet Sounds" etc?

You may be very right. I thought these cocksmears were british though? sghowss what I know. I am no EXPERT on music for 12 year old girls. |
I don't reckon their English - they don't look inbred and thick enough.
|
yep, they're from LA
|
and yep, most of them met at a $25 thousand/year private school. The Brentwood School.
they sure sound like it too. pussy fucking band. |
Heh heh heh - I knew it! Can't we organise a whip-round to get someone to go to El Eh and kick them all in the nutsack....hey, would you be up for it? With your legal skills, you'dbe able to talk your way out of any goolie-injuring lawsuit from them.
|
It's easy to hate the Beach Boys, but Wilson was fucking epic. His chord progressions are ridiculous.
|
i like pet sounds. a lot. i thought smile was the most overhyped record ever. 30 somethin years of buildup for a boring bubblegum record thats kinda sorta wierd.
|
Ha he. I meant to say something abot The Beach Boys in my original post but forgot and mentioned an eyehotegod album instead. If this were a pub I'd say, yeah, sorry, and then move on. Being the internet my fuck up is now a documented fact.
I can't remeber for the life of me what I was gonna say about The Beach Boys. Maybe that Pet Sounds isn't their best aklbum (Surf's Up is) or that Brian never released a good solo album (but Dennis and Carl did). Frankly I could care less either way. I Like both bands for very different reasons. Could do a lot worse spending the summer listening to both. But then you could probably spend an even better summer listening to neither. |
i LOVE pet sounds.
its beautiful. and as someone said before, the chords are insane and its just a completely brilliant album so all you haters - you suck haha |
I must look into this 'how to delete threads' thing.

Pet Sounds is an album that it's both cool to elevate, and cool to dismiss. It's absolute brilliance will, however, see both camps to their grave. |
i love pet sounds
demonrail was it you who had to endure cunty gillespie and twatty innes waffling on about the beach boys? |

very true im an elevator for sure :D |

It was indeed. But the discussion was about Heroes and Villians, which I don't like that much. The fact is however that i was probably giving Mr Gillespie a good run for his money in the annoying stakes that night. I specifically remember being responsible for an extremely cringeworthy monologue regarding The Ronettes. Oh well, youth and all that. |

i would like to have witnessed that |
I bought Pet Sounds for £2 because the CD was 'lightly marked'.
|
I love the beach boys, the lyrics are so happy but the music is so dark to me (even though that 99% of you wouldn't consider it so, infact consider it the opposite) but I find the sunny shit to be sarcastic in my head.
|
Smile is fucking awesome, and so is Pet Sounds.
|
Honest-to-god attempts were made to get into this stuff, but it didn't take.
|
I'm a huge Brian Wilson fan.
Beach Boys albums that deserve more attention are Surf's Up, Sunflower, and 20/20. |
20/20 has the Manson tune on it, right?
|
For a band so highly regarded, it seems a shame that so much discussion centres on Pet Sounds, but ignores the late sixties-early seventies stuff like Holland, Landlocked and Surf's Up. I still believe that they're the only band at the time that ever came close to matching the sheer creativity of The Beatles'.

You thunder stealer you. |
I've seen Smile and Pet Sounds (obviously just with the two living ones and a bunch of stand-ins) live, and the experiences were pretty similar. I prefer Pet Sounds, but I have respect for both.
|
sloop john B is the first song i can remember.
Sometimes i can't stomach them, sometimes i just loves them |
thank christ for that two albums on one c.d of sunflower/surfs up, a life saver indeed. smiley smile i find to be superior to the recent smile and pet sounds is flawless and i worry about the state of the dna of anyone that could diss it. love all the surfy stuff particularly do it again which sports the most pant moistening use of drum machine i ever heard.

Can't Learn Not To Love You is listed as a Dennis Wilson song, but I've heard the Manson version. I'm pretty confident that it's a Manson song. |
i just got dennis's 'pacific ocean blue' re-issue. i had never heard it before, and i can honestly say its really great. and MUCH better than 'smile' in my opinion. but i dont like 'smile'.

My buddies and me are getting real well known
