yeah, they're great. but what's unfine about liking stereolab may i ask?
Stereolab i used to like and still do to an extent but over the years they started putting out records more apt for an Ikea board members meeting rather than stuff that basked into the fun and energy of making music that has polyphormous influences.I'll punch in you in the face if you dare say this aint true
it's true, they aren't as good as they used to be. you'll have to find a better way if you want to punch my face in.
Don't push your luck.
or what?
i just cant listen to this band without thinking of stereolab.
live, the stereolab comparisons are barely applicable
Broadcast are way more interesting than Stereolab in terms of sound texture applied to tunes.Go and listen to ''Goodbye girls'' where feedback gatecrashes an almost palygound-like melody to highly distabilizing effect.I also love the fact that they manage to incorporate techno-like structures to their music in places where you normally wouldn't find them. They operate in a space and time that has no time whatsoever for retro futurism, the past, the present and possibly the future.I don't work for them by the way.
I like Stereolab. But there is flack. I like Broadcast, they are nice in a similarly French way. My fave Stereolab track is the NWW remix. That does it for me.
I was just listening to Tender Buttons, good stuff.

Broadcast are not French at all--they are from Birmingham, from the same neighborhood as Pram. I had a really great discussion with Trish Keenan of Broadcast. She's a sweetheart. |
broadcast are no more like stereolab than pavement is like smashing fuckpins!
totally different bands even if they do attend the same music seminars.... tender buttons is one of the best releases of 2005 and is a gorgeous album. havent heard the new one yet but am heading into town now in the hope to pick it up.......... |
New album?
Listening to poem of dead song right now.
It's not new--it's a compilation of EP's and rarities...There were four songs I didn't have.

Finally some news from Martin on their forum:
Martin Atlas Sound Vs Broadcast at ATP Minehead The band are still working on the new disk, and it's coming along very nicely, but Trish and James took a little time out to join Atlas Sound for their set at this weekend's ATP show. They played the Atlas Sound set with James on electronic manipulation and Trish adding treated vocals, the three of them played a version of Corporeal towards the end of the set. Just a small snippet of news for you. Cheerio Martin [Edited by Martin on May 19, 2008 at 11:44 AM] |
I approve of this band.
Love them. Thanks porky for introducing me to them.
i wish they'd play live more often

Yeah, I wish that instead of DJing and mucking about with other people they'd just tour more and be slightly more prolific. |
the one time i saw them they were AMAZING
Yeah, live they rock out in their own peculiar way. I also like the fact that they can play the songs similarly to they the way they sound on record and still add some nice touches. The Pixies for example were always really shit at doing something similar live.
I saw them live a few weeks ago. It was a really weird-o drone-y set with only two "normal" songs that I noticed thrown in (Black Cat and Corporeal.)
I really like what they're doing live now, but the mini-album with The Focus Group and the new EP are kinda boring. |

Got my ticket for that today.
enjoy!
I've been following these guys since the 90's and saw them play in NYC a couple weeks ago. They opened with a 20+ minute experimental piece playing to a video, I thought it was very ballsy to do that at CMJ, they could have just played the hits, it was very aggressive and intense. Sounds like they've been listening to a lot of electronic and experimental stuff. The new album is very diffrerent than their previous stuff, it is much more free than structured pop. I didn't like it on first listen but now I find it a very rich and compelling aural treat, and plays nicely with the tour only CDr they were selling.
