SY@ McCarren Park Pool Aug. 30, 2008
Sonic Youth will play the last ever show at Brooklyn's McCarren Park Pool on Aug. 30, with special guests to be announced. Tickets go on sale Friday (July 25) via Ticketmaster, with proceeds to benefit the Open Space Alliance.
The pool, which opened in 1936 but was closed in 1984, has been hosting shows since the summer of 2006. Construction is set to begin later this year on returning the space to a pool. In winter, some space will be converted into an ice-skating rink. |
I have to go to this.
|
I was at the summer 2007 Daydream Nation show at McCarren Pool and it was so good ! I can't make it up to NYC this summer though. :(
Whoever can should jump on it. I'd venture to say they play better in NYC than anywhere else. It's so special. :) |
i'll probably go or at least hang out outside if it's too expensive.

It's going to be hot as balls, I know that. I'm still pissed they didn't play Daydream in DC/Philly. |
Decomposing Body Found in McCarren Park
By BENJAMIN SARLIN, Special to the Sun | July 18, 2008 FEEDBACK|SHARE|PRINT|EMAIL Police are investigating a decomposing body discovered in Brooklyn's McCarren Park yesterday. The remains were discovered in a shed nearby the McCarren Park Pool, police said. The city's medical examiner is working to determine the cause of death. As of yet, police have not identified the deceased and it is unclear how long the body was left in the shed. McCarren Park Pool, located on Lorimer Street between Bayard Street and Driggs Avenue in Williamsburg, is a popular site for outdoor music and theater concerts, featuring such acts this summer such as MIA, the Hold Steady, and Sonic Youth. The giant pool, which was built in 1936, has been drained since 1984. |
Well, there ya go.

it's a shame that corpse won't be able to rock out to Silver Rocket one last time.

im definitely going. but it's going to be bittersweet because i went last year with my ex-girlfriend. : (
if i dont find someone to go with, ill go alone |
Didn't get tickets for this since I don't have the money for it at the moment (just spent $2000 this week on college supplies.) I'd be content with sitting outside, though, so I'll probably end up doing that.
|
woooooooo
got my tix!! |
oh glad you're going jenn! we should meet up beforehand. is queen annie going to make an appearance too? this should be fun
|
it's unfortunate i shall have to pass on this one, but work is work
hope to see you at somepoint again Amy |
cannot wait. didn't think we'd get to see SY this summer, and can't afford to go to the ATP show... Sucks that it's the last show at the Pool. Have to say it's one of the best places to see an outdoor show. Last year's Daydream show was a blast.

I'm actually going to call Annie tonight and see what's up. It would be weird seeing SY at McCarren without her there. heh. |
35 bucks?! Shheee-it, I'm still going. I guess some of it goes to Ibold, too. Eddie Vedder in Montreal is like $75! Mr. Anti-TicketMaster himself!
Oh wait, I'm a whiny fan on a message board; somebody fuck with my reputation points, please. |
any confirmation yet that the special guests will be the Moscow Cat Circus ?
|
|
How is that cat going to get from Jersey to Brooklyn?

i'll go
|
I'm in.
|
Does Irving Plaza still sell tickets for McCarren Park shows?
|
you can get tiickets for the pool at the mercury lounge box office on houston st.
|
Doors open at 4. First act at around 5. And then 2 other acts before Sonic Youth. So now your looking at around 8:30 till they start their show. :( And thats sux cuz I know McCarren has a cut off on live music which I think is around 10.

"Wolf Eyes, Times New Viking, and Vivian Girls"
ha, total Brooklyn "hipster" crowd pleasers... the Vivian Girls sold out their LP in days, this seasons hit since Effi Breist seems to have hit a wall. |

Seriously? Ick. What a letdown. I thought it was going to be a surprise of Feelies-esque proportions. Suddenly I don't feel too bad about not being able to make it. |
Ew. I've never been to a SY show where I haven't been in the front, but I may have to come a little late to this. I'm not standing around for 4 and half hours until they come on, nuh uh. I'm going to try to get a press pass...
