What are your feeling on RUSH?

just curious. their mid period was ace to me. 2112 - Signals.

Rob Instigator 07.25.2008 09:49 AM

I enjoy their older stuff when a friend plays it, but, like iron maiden and zeppelin, their lyrical obsession with epic "storytelling" grates on me after a while./

noisereductions 07.25.2008 09:55 AM

I wonder if he speaks like an ordinary guy?

fugazifan 07.25.2008 10:13 AM

they are my brothers favorite band so i started liking them
farewel to kings is an amazing album. they know how to write a solid song. but their recent albums are crap

tesla69 07.25.2008 10:17 AM

its a really really bad drug, does terrrible damage to the body, its popular use in the gay 'community' as poppers may have contributed to the AIDS crisis due to suppression of the immune system.

Everyneurotic 07.25.2008 10:41 AM

i kinda like "tom sawyer" or the keyboard thing when neil pert starts going all odd timed on it.

but other than that, i never ever saw the appeal.

SuperCreep 07.25.2008 10:59 AM

One of my favorite bands ever. I don't quite love everything they did like I used to, but when they were on, they were really ON (2112 - Grace Under Pressure, to be exact.) Their last one was surprisingly good too. I've seen them live three times and I'd easily see them another thirty given the chance.

matt g 07.25.2008 11:47 AM

I know him, and he does.

Rush was the first band i became obsessed with. when i was 12 or 13. I collected all of thier LP's within a year from the local used record store. I used to set up my turntable behind my drum set and i would wear headphones and learn all of NP's parts (without as many toms & gadjets, of course). My Rush obsession lasted through high school, until I started listening to gangsta rap & janes addiction. I still will check out whatever they release, but i don't think they've been consistently good since the mid 80's.

luckynumber9 07.25.2008 12:08 PM

I like everything from 2112 - Grace Under Pressure. Snakes and Arrows is actually pretty good... much better than Vapor Trails, which had some serious clipping/distortion issues. I've seen them live twice and they were great.

evollove 07.25.2008 12:59 PM

Does anyone else find them funny?

gmku 07.25.2008 01:01 PM

Yes. They're sort of like the mullet hairstyle of rock. That is, they are to rock what mullet cuts are to hair style.

atsonicpark 07.25.2008 01:02 PM

rush should hush.

some good instrumentals though.

mangajunky 07.25.2008 01:03 PM

Technically good music that doesn't move me whatsoever.
If I got free tickets to a show, I'd go. It's fun to play their songs on Rock Band. That's it. No emotional connection to them.

fugazifan 07.25.2008 01:05 PM

what i like about rush compared to bands like dream theater is that they are technical, bt their songs have soul...

o'connor 07.25.2008 01:29 PM

i consider them one of teh worst bands of all time. mainly because of his annoying high pitched voice. i find them very corny and annoying.

viewtiful_alan 07.25.2008 02:29 PM

A bunch of musicians who are too talented for their own good and can't really write a decent song.... that's rush in a nut shell.

Mainstream prog at some of its worst

gmku 07.25.2008 02:31 PM

The mullet cuts of rock, I tell you...

gmku 07.25.2008 02:43 PM

Let me put it this way. The kids back in the day of Rush, kids my age I went to school with, who liked Rush were either true nerds, engineering students, or fraternity boys... and sometimes all three rolled into one.

SuperCreep 07.25.2008 03:17 PM

Honest to god, I have never met a Rush fan who was into Dungeons and Dragons or Ayn Rand or any of that other stereotypical crap that comes along with being a Rush fan. Not saying that it doesn't exist, but I've never seen it, and I know a LOT of Rush fans.

I'll go early-to-mid...

pbradley 07.25.2008 03:35 PM

Now here's a band I never liked and never tried to get into.

atari 2600 07.25.2008 03:39 PM

Pavement? Well, that's just a pity you never gave 'em a chance.

Any of you relative n00bs kow about SY's impromptu cover of "Fly By Night?"
http://www.sonicyouth.com/mustang/cc/073102.html
Jim sang it.

fugazifan 07.25.2008 04:34 PM

i love SCG's cover of fly by night

Rob Instigator 07.25.2008 04:36 PM

i'd like to invite you to

What? No. Rush. I gave Pavement a chance.

ricechex 07.25.2008 08:18 PM

These albums are fantastic if u like some RUSH but don't know which ones to get..

2112
Farewell to Kings
Hemispheres
Permanent Waves
Moving Pictures
Signals

i hesitate to put Grace Under Pressure bc it's so different then anything prior, and has a sorta 80's dated thing going, but nevertheless the last solid one imho...

Savage Clone 07.25.2008 08:29 PM

Did anybody see them on Colbert last week?

High-larious.
Talking to them about their musical influences:

"Have you guys ever written a song so long, that by the end of it you had actually influenced yourselves from the beginning part?"

acousticrock87 07.25.2008 09:13 PM

They're incredibly talented and fun to play (on real guitar, not Guitar Hero). But I can't stand the singer.

Sheriff Rhys Chatham 07.25.2008 09:15 PM

I picked up a rush album the other day at the pawnshop for two bucks. Presto. It's not too bad and I'm a fan of their popular stuff.

I saw it. They cut to commercial during "Tom Sawyer" and came back from commercial break and they were still playing the same song. I know it was supposed to be a joke but Tom Sawyer is only 4 1/2 minutes long.

Green Magnesium 07.25.2008 11:17 PM

They're better than Bon Jovi.

charles eugene 07.26.2008 11:21 AM

Theyre pretty good, Geddy Lee is a talented bass player, Im always drawn to that.

That Colbert quote is one of the best things i have heard. :D haha

batreleaser 07.26.2008 03:53 PM

amaziung musicians, dodgy catalo, chronicles ang live at rio are amazing

EMMAh 07.26.2008 03:54 PM

Never liked them that much at all.

DeadDiscoDildo 07.26.2008 03:58 PM

Hate his voice, Hate Neil Pert. Even in my cocaine phase I'd rather listen to steve shelley or ringo starr over neil pert.

Not that they are bad players, but I feel no emotional connection to them...they seem like one of those bands who have no emotional connection to their own music.

DeadDiscoDildo 07.26.2008 06:43 PM

You gave me a neg rep because I said I hate Rush? Doesn't that contradict your post. Unless you sir are a back peddler or just dumb, go to the bands you secretly like thread and chalk rush up on there.

ZEROpumpkins 07.26.2008 09:08 PM

Rush are with Satan.

Sheriff Rhys Chatham 07.26.2008 09:10 PM

Satans good at what he does.
