I still have to hear the Melvins, I'll check them out next time I have spare time on my hands; I have to go to bed now |
Get right to work on listening to The Melvins. If you want punkish Melvins, go w/ the "Magled Demos, 1983" cd. that shows how hardcore of a band they were, & still are.
|
dead kennedys
ramones husker du stooges clash and buzzcocks coming in close |
Inhuman you should also check out Stoner Witch by the Melvins.
|
Patti Smith
Stooges Pistols Ramones GG Allin it was hard after seeing the greats of Debbie Gibson listed (such balls on the habib man to admit the love) but it reminded me of a question I was recently asked was Madonna punk in her hey day or just freeing the gay rights and the right to take pix of my snatch with a mirror? |
Hmmm, The Stooges, DK, X, Refused, and hardcore verison of The Queers.
|
I don't think I could pick five and besides all the bands I could think of at the moment all of you pretty much said already. One band I might add to the list is The Dead Milkmen. I'm sorry if they aren't what are the standards or whatever but they are a pretty cool band I think. O yeah, and the Damned's in the time of their early lp.
...does anyone else notice the Sex Pistols hasn't been mentioned? I'm not agreeing or disagreeing with that, just putting it out there. ha. |
top 5 as of this moment in time: black flag, stooges, bad brains, descendents, old bad religion
|
Bad Brains
Hüsker Dü Iggy And The Stooges I'm not a huge punk fan. These are the only three, that came into mind, when i thought of the term punk. |

Punk is such a vast category. I'm really only into stuff like Millions of Dead Cops.
|
Minor Threat
Black Flag Husker Du Minutemen Dead Kennedys... and a nod to Void, Fang and the Necros |
I am surprised that the sex pistols were not metioned more
|
To put in some more recent bands, Ikara Colt and McLusky deserve mentioning. May not have changed the format as much as older bands did, but they brought their own sound and voice. And any band who shouts SINK VENICE deserves legendary status in my book (hence my username )
