Awesome musicians who gave birth to crappy musicians

Like Bob Dylan begat Jacob Dylan.

MellySingsDoom 08.26.2008 08:58 AM

Loudon Wainwright III and Kate McGarrigle gave us the increasingly-irritating Rufus Wainwright. Rufus has plenty of talent and charisma, but I wish he'd get off the over-travelled Liza Minelli-Barry Manilow "Camp" Highway at least once in a while. (Very rich coming from me, I know).

(His sister's v good though)

What the hell are you talking about? Beck (who's first name is actually spelled Bek by the way)'s father's last name was Campbell and his mother's last name was Hansen. So I'm pretty sure you're way off base.

Tim Buckley begat Jeff Buckley

But Beck's younger brothers (or Hansen, as the world knows them) are amazing

yeah, but their stage names were mr & mrs beck

atsonicpark 08.26.2008 10:00 AM

While I wouldn't call Frank Zappa "awesome", his sons are way less awesome musicians.

I'd call him awesome (mostly). And agree about his sons.

Prove it, ass-butt.

demonrail666 08.26.2008 10:34 AM

Off the top of my head, and with very little conviction, John Lennon --> Julian Lennon.

blunderbuss 08.26.2008 10:46 AM

Ringo Starr / Zak Starkey (c'mon, the guy was in his dad's band's tribute band, he must be crap).

Marc Bolan / Rolan Bolan (see above)

Bob Marley / too many little Marley's to mention (see both the above).

noisereductions 08.26.2008 10:51 AM

Rolan Boland? That's like Julia Gulia.

Actually, I think Zak Starkey is technically a better drummer than Ringo.
Ringo was stylish and rock steady but Zak has been able to adopt a lot of different styles over the years and has toured with The Who and Oasis and is very much in demand as a session drummer.

His drumming with the Who is impressive.

Sinatra Sr. > Sinatra Jr.

sinatra sr. is nancy sinatra's dad though which makes up for the other kid.

king_buzzo 08.26.2008 04:20 PM

I'll give you that. Speaking of Nancy, anybody here check out that Lee Hazelwood box set thing?

Word up. Zak Starkey is the best thing Ringo ever 'did'.

I disagree.

Especially the last one. Tim Buckley was brilliant and branched out into more complex genres (jazz, etc.), but Jeff was absolutely capable of everything his dad did, and then some.

Hahahaha. Okay, you win.

Also, you're a terrible person.

SuperCreep 08.26.2008 08:07 PM

Hank Williams Sr. -> Hank Williams Jr.

Hank Sr.'s badassedness clearly skipped a generation.

Richard & Linda Thompson gave birth to Teddy, sort of a bland, talentless version of his daddy.

DeadDiscoDildo 08.28.2008 09:40 PM

I'm not a fan of either Sean or Julian Lennon's music.

Thank god for John.

noisereductions 08.29.2008 07:16 AM

I still think the Mr. & Mrs. Beck thing is bullshiz. I see no proof that a travelling group by THAT name is actually Bibbe Hansen and David Campbell.

ALIEN ANAL 08.29.2008 07:20 AM

Sarah Connor gave birth too John Connor

They called themselves the Becks and that's where Beck (the twat) got his name from.

noisereductions 08.29.2008 07:25 AM

OK, maybe you're all misunderstanding what I'm saying. I believe that it is some sort of urban legend perpetuated by members of this board. But I don't see any proof that it's true. Show me something that references this as fact.

it used to be common knowledge around 1994, but he had his lawyers squash any reference to them, and journalists have to sign a contract not to ask him about them in interviews.
