Music that's made you cry

not because it was crap, but because it really did make you feel either so sad, or so elated that it brought you to tears?

Danny Himself 09.18.2008 02:20 PM

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RE58MsToRj4 This has almost got me there on many occasions, but really, it takes a lot of me to cry. I haven't cried in years.

It's the song that'll be played at my funeral. People have been informed.

i have never criedlistening to that but it's one of my favourite songs ever

demonrail666 09.18.2008 03:12 PM

It genuinely leaves me speechless every time I hear it. Just beautiful.

Cantankerous 09.18.2008 03:12 PM

i love the video for it too.

demonrail666 09.18.2008 03:17 PM

The bit in slow motion when he's tap dancing, and the bits before that when he's just walking along in central park. Fuck. Amazing.

Mark Chapman. You really were one total fucking arsehole of a cunt.

Pass In Time by Beth Orton.

demonrail666 09.18.2008 03:23 PM

cantankerous^^another case of mediocrity triumphing over greatness i suppose. which in itself is enough to bring tears to the eyes. one of humanity's great mistakes.

EMMAh 09.18.2008 04:29 PM

Where did you Sleep Last Night - Nirvana
Doll Parts - Hole

That's all that comes to mind.

It's normally things songs remind me of that make me cry, not the song itself. I listened to both those songs plenty of times before I cried to them.

Cantankerous 09.18.2008 04:31 PM

this isn't a song but it's music-related
i shed a tear when i listened to this
and when i read the ending of that book come as you are

MellySingsDoom 09.18.2008 04:39 PM

I've mentioned it before, I think, but the last time I cried spontaneously at a song, was listening to Dennis Wilson's "Mexico" for the very first time. An absolutely beautiful tune.

Thin White Rope's "Disney Girl" could make me blub as a young 'un, too.

Trasher02 09.18.2008 04:43 PM

Last time I cried was when I heard Slowdive - Dagger. I was pretty down and drunk at that moment but nevertheless it's a beautiful song.

Torn Curtain 09.18.2008 04:56 PM

The Notwist - Off the rails
Jeff Buckley - Morning theft

Glice 09.18.2008 04:56 PM

Special D's come with me (which, as you may know, is my favourite song ever) reduces me to silly little tears of glee pretty much every time. I was glad to see someone posting Mogwai's Helicon 1, as that's my funeral song (but it doesn't make me blub any more). Ground Zero's 'I say a little prayer' is a tears of mirth one. The Fall's smile (and a fair few other songs) reduces me to a silly laughing, blubbing mess.

On the other hand, there's plenty of country and such that gets me a little bleary. An afternoon of Hank Williams will usually destroy me, as will Dolly, Kenny Roger's Lucille, Abba's the winner takes it all, Merle and ridiculous little things like Avril Lavigne or Rolf Harris. I'm very susceptible to an utterly preposterous song that's melancholy, as it happens.

Torn Curtain 09.18.2008 05:00 PM

Jane Birkin - Baby alone in Babylone

deflinus 09.18.2008 05:01 PM

Jim O'rourke

Torn Curtain 09.18.2008 05:08 PM

Laura Veirs - Spelunking

blunderbuss 09.18.2008 05:49 PM

Most of Marc and the Mambas' "Untitled" album - particularly "Big Louise" and "Caroline Says".
