krastian 06.04.2006 11:47 PM

umjammer atomsk 06.04.2006 11:47 PM

Wow that picture look kick-ass. I only know the name, never heard any of the music. Looks to quite be interesting... I'll check em out, thanks.

krastian 06.04.2006 11:52 PM

Not to mention that Mick sometimes sings with a hint of Jimi Hendrix in his voice....fantastic.

krastian 06.04.2006 11:55 PM

Ha ha....Lake Trout. Dude I told you I can't draw with a fucking mouse!!!

LifeDistortion 06.05.2006 12:53 AM

Never heard of them but that's one kick ass photograph.

finding nobody 06.05.2006 01:00 AM

what's a good first listen krastian?

krastian 06.05.2006 01:08 AM

Well I'm pretty sure there is really only 2 "albums" that you can get, but either way I'd get I Know You Fine, But How You Doin'.....cool artwork/writings inside too.

Bertrand 06.05.2006 02:36 AM

Never heard them but I got to listen to Dirtbombs, lead by Mick Collins.
This man's got a great voice and can produce really good sounding music.
The Gories line-up is a bit of a mystery for me. There was a Dan playing the guitar & I read a few contradictory things. Is he the one who would end up in a tiny skirt for Demolition Doll Rods or not?
How close the Gories are to Dirtbombs and DDR and the Blues Explosion?

krastian 06.05.2006 02:42 AM

Well in terms of the Blues Explosion they are not as loud/insane and the drums are a lot simpler too. I honestly haven't heard enough of The Dirtbombs to compare them to The Gories:confused:

luxinterior 06.05.2006 07:51 AM

I like them. The other day I was watching some of their shows on youtube--you should do a search if you haven't yet.

finding nobody 12.22.2006 01:55 AM

Here's a cool video of Mick Collins playing with the White Stripes (and a cool iggy pop cover at the end)

demonrail666 07.16.2009 11:49 AM

I'd not heard them until just now. I'd heard the name better never really gave them much thought. From the clips I just heard on youtube though, I think I love them.

Decayed Rhapsody 07.16.2009 12:14 PM

They're fantastic.

Toilet & Bowels 07.17.2009 03:51 AM

wayfaring stranger 07.26.2009 08:29 AM

Don't forget The Blacktop. It's a link between The Gories and The Dirtbombs

barnaclelapse 07.26.2009 09:14 AM

I like what I've heard, but I definitely want to hear more.

There are three Gories albums
"Houserockin"
"I Know You Fine, But How You Doin'"
Those are both on one CD that is sometimes called "I Know You Houserockin'"
"Outta Here"

All of them are great. Musically they're pretty rudimentary (Esp. Peg's drumming) but they've got amazing original songs and fantastic taste in cover songs.

Mick Collins would go onto Blacktop and the Dirtbombs which are both full band line ups with bass guitar (the Dirtbombs have two bass players and two drummers) so they're sound is a lot more full than the Gories. The Screws was Mick and Terri Wahl (of the LA band the Red Aunts) and some other LA folks. They made two records and they're both fun, the 2nd one is all covers if I remember correctly.

Danny went on to the Demolition Doll Rods (yes, he crossdressed) who put out a bunch of great records. They are a bit closer to the Gories at times as their drummer was also very rudimentary.

Peg. After the Gories broke up she moved from Detroit to New Orleans and I don't think she was in any other bands.
