Big Flame

"Britain's Premire Jazz Fuck Trio"

Anyone dig this band? I sure as hell do. I was introduced to them through, you guessed it, Blastitude. They were amazing. The genre they are pigeonheld in by hack rock critics is "Post Punk", which I don't have a problem with, because pretty much all post 77 underground rock is "Post Punk" (meaning, it couldn't have happened prior to punk). Anyways, this shit is nuts. Jazz, Funk, Punk, Soul, Skronk, everything. The obvious influence is the Pop Group, but these dudes took it a bit farther.

AtSonicPark; You would LOVE this band.

great, getting "rigour" now, thank you.

Toilet & Bowels 10.07.2008 04:19 AM

I like 2 Foot Flame

atsonicpark 10.07.2008 05:26 AM

this band is brilliant!

Pookie 10.07.2008 06:19 AM

They were ok.

I never really got into them in a huge way. I bought a few of their 7"s.

If you like them, you should listen to The Great Leap Forward, the band Alan Brown formed when Big Flame split up.

I thought this thread is about:
fire
gasoline
oil
kerosine
or just wood

I am dissappointed

Three of the Peel sessions are available from this blog: http://hassanisobar.multiply.com/music

I much preferred Brown's other band, The Great Leap Forward. There was supposed to be some re-recording and release of TGLF material.

I mentioned TGLF in my post, but neglected to say how I preferred them to Big Flame.

I knew Hip Priest would make an appearance in this thread.

You did indeed, sorry.

I only have one Peel session and the brilliant "Bereavement of Speech" track by TGLF.

Brown is also in a band called Sarandon, but I haven't heard anything by them. So a fat lot of use that is.

dionysusundone 10.07.2008 10:16 PM

Holy crap this band's awesome!

Toilet & Bowels 10.08.2008 01:09 AM

Sarandon is a terrible name for a band

Pookie 10.08.2008 06:58 AM

Big Flame are one of those bands I look back on with fondness, but I couldn't have been too enamoured with them otherwise I would have bought more of their records.

I preferred Bogshed.

Bogshed's entire canon reeks of class, with Peel sessions 3 & 4 being the absolute high point in my opinion. One of my top ten bands. There should be a Bogshed thread on every forum on the internet.

Pookie 10.08.2008 07:34 AM

I'm very disappointed that there are no Bogshed CDs available (correct me if I'm wrong).

You are very right. One of the former members of the band has prevented any release.

I'm going to pm you, so keep a close watch on your inbox.

How queer.

Derek 10.08.2008 11:53 AM

Big Flame rule, sound like a more frantic and weirder Gang of Four.

Toilet & Bowels 10.08.2008 04:30 PM

i was just looking at a totally unrelated website and happened to stumble upon the information that sarandon are playing a gig in london the 24th of october

batreleaser 10.08.2008 04:33 PM

WAAAAAAY more frantic than gang of four, they border on no wave at times

Derek 10.08.2008 04:50 PM

Yeah I know, hah.

Toilet & Bowels 10.08.2008 05:32 PM

you all should check out 2 Foot Flame, it was Peter Jeffries (ex-Nocturnaal Projections, & This Kind of Punishment), Jean Smith (Mecca Normal), and sometimes Michael Morley (The Dead C, Gate, ex-Wreck Small Speaker on Expensive Stereos)

batreleaser 10.08.2008 05:34 PM

does it fall into the "new zealund free noise" canon? i love 90s new zealund noise, in lots of cases more than japan's.
