asp's classic albums # 55: lovesliescrushing - glissceule
![]() LOVESLIESCRUSHING "GLISSCEULE" Sonic Syrup, 2002 Even though this band is pretty flawless, all things considered, and have yet to release anything that isn't of the utmost highest quality, I think this is definitely their masterpiece thus far. Pure 4-track analog guitar sounds (with a couple glitchy digital manipulations thrown in for good measure) and wordless ethereal vocals, it's almost 80 minutes long and never gets boring or wandering in the least. The purest definition of the sound shoegaze and also its logical extreme. Amongst the best stuff you'll ever hear. |
AC pretty much summed this one up. It's composed 119% of win.
|
Thank you. There's just something about this record.. and the band in general. Really brilliant stuff.
|
I would like to know how you experience this kind of music. Thanks to Sonic Youth 37 taking the time to upload Chorus for me this morning, I listened to it on the way to work, and I couldnt get into it. I can accept some music just not being accessable enough for me, but I would just like to understand what you hear when you not just listen to it, but really really seem to enjoy it.
|
Are you trying to tell us you're an aspie, asp?

Well, "Chorus" is a bit different than the other albums, granted, and it may not be the best introduction to their music... but... I mean, you can sleep to the music, be .. uh .. medicated while listening to the music, have sex while listening to it... I dunno. Driving's probably the worst conditions to experience their music in, though I do it all the time. I think it's extremely accessible music.. it's just beautiful shoegaze drones. Nothing more. |
Bumped... so Derek can offer an opinion!
|
What is there to say? It's great.
My favourite lovesliescrushing so far though is Bloweyelashwish... this is superb too. |
I dunno, I just wanted to bump this thread and was looking for any excuse. Seems better than another thread on Animal Collective.
|
Adam, you have the same initials as Animal Collective; how does that make you FEEL?
|
and Anal Cunt...
I don't get it, why are this band so obscure? |
Forward-thinking, inventive, intelligent, well-made music usually is obscure.
|
I'll field that one. Because any band with Scott Cortez does not tour hardly at all and the records/cds are notoriously hard to find (I've tried e-mailing him to buy them...no response). Check out Astrobrite too, more hard edge shoegaze than LLC
|
Hah.
But I see no reason why a fan of My Bloody Valentine couldn't like lovesliescrushing or a fan of shoegaze in general. This band should be way bigger. |
Oh and you replied too soon SY37... hmm yeah that could be the case.
|
I mean, in the world of today, when a 1 of 100 7" on purple marbled vinyl with hand-screened cover goes for $6 on ebay....(I paid $6 for 1 of 1,000), the band isn't really going to get bigger.
|
I don't think they're that obscure, certainly. 7000 listeners on last.fm. I hear 'em mentioned occasionally. They're way better than MBV, of course (most shoegaze bands are), but SY37 pointed something important out.. I have emailed them about buying some albums (notably "chorus", which I emailed them about 3 times and my friend Cory emailed them about probably 5 fucking times!) and they never responded.
|
I tried at least three times plus messages on myspace, a friend of mine got through after 1 e-mail, but it simply said something to the effect of "tell me what you want to buy and I'll send prices"
|
Haha.
I'd heard some other weird things too... Melissa of LLC is married (not to Scott) and there was supposedly some weird myspace comments drama on the LLC page and Melissa's page from her and her husband... this was around the time when "Chorus" was originally supposed to come out, in late 2005-ish. All the comments were deleted, but I remember reading a few that Cory showed me, they were really obscure and vague but obviously kinda dramatic too. It was bizarre. I remember all pictures of Melissa were taken down from the LLC myspace and she wasn't listed as a band member anymore. then "chorus" finally came out and LLC said it was their last album. So who knows............. |
funny, i heard of a friend who trades with "the guy from llc".
|
Yeah lovesliescrushing are pretty good.
I recommanded them to someone in an older thread there a long time ago and someone replied that they were just "synth tones going on for 4 minutes without variation" - or something of that kind -, which is kind of true; yet it's beautiful I do not listen to them too often though |
There's no synths though. And there's plenty of variation. So whoever said that doesn't have a fucking clue what he's talking about....

Haha. I'd politely disagree with marcos hassan this time then!
|
Monosodic are more boring...
I kid! I'd figure that everyneurotic would have a more... open minded opinion than that but he can say whatever he wants really hah. I'm STILL listening to this band after a complete binge yesterday. |
when i said that, i had just listened to xenophobe or whatever it's called and that one is really long and bored the crap out of me.
but since then i've listened to chorus and glissceule and i have to say those i really like. |

I'm listening to this right now as my introduction to the band. I'm really, really enjoying these guys so far. |
*Guy and girl hehe.
Yes. Everyone should love this band. |
yes
|
I don't think I ever told anybody about it but a couple of years ago, after i stopped posting regularly here, Scott Cortez PMed about how they don't use Casio keyboards because that would have been too easy. He was pretty cool and friendly about it
Actually, this was after I "got" LLC (and Astrobrite for that matter). I love them now. |
