my ever growing vinyl collection

lately i have been buying alot of vinyl and my collection is small but getting better and better. Vinyl is expensive!:( so i have to buy only a few at a time. I love every single record i have and wouldn't trade them for anything. They were all bought for a reason and even if i didn't like it too much at first, now i love every song on every record and side. i plan on getting some more beatles records and some sonic youth records that i have on hold right now. I think one of them is sister.:D i used to have some modonna records but i traded them in for the double fantasy record. i definetley think i made the right decision.

marleypumpkin 06.12.2006 09:35 AM

Wow, this is weird. Laila, that was the first Kinks record I ever bought. Bought it for 1$ at a small record shop. Yippie!

Laila 06.12.2006 09:38 AM

which one?

marleypumpkin 06.12.2006 09:39 AM

"Give The People What They Want" (my fault, didn't notice both)

Laila 06.12.2006 10:42 AM

well i'm glad you're glad i'm still alive. i had no i dea you cared so.
and how wonderful it is that your stereotypical views about me still stand.

you should rep me just for being alive.

Hip Priest 06.12.2006 10:47 AM

Leonard Cohen is very cool - 'The PArtisan' is on that collection, if I remember correctly. Mighty song.

Laila 06.12.2006 10:56 AM

here is a shirt i have been working on. i'm wearing it for the first time today, so it's not such a great view of it, but you get the general idea.

next step 06.12.2006 11:07 AM

your vinyl collection is very nice but that shirt is very cool for real! did you make it by yourself???

Laila 06.12.2006 11:09 AM

yeah i made it. i have made alot of shirts. strangely sy is the only band i make shirts for.

SpectralJulianIsNotDead 06.12.2006 12:00 PM

I was going to start a thread like this sometime.

I still have more CDs than vinyls, but my vinyls are catching up. I have:

Sonic Youth- Murray Street, Sonic Nurse
Bauhaus- The Singles
Tones on Tail- Go!/Lions 12" import single
Gang of Four- I Love a Man In Uniform 12"
Fugazi- 13 songs, Repeater, I'm in on the Killtaker, 3 songs, The Argument
Tubeway Army- S/T, Replicas
Ramones- Rocket to Russia, Ramones, and Leave Home
Jesus and Mary Chain- Blues from a Gun 12"
Led Zeppelin 1,2,3,4, Physical Graffiti, The Song Remains the Same (Houses of the Holy keeps eluding me!!!)
Black Sabbath- Paranoid, S/T, Master of Reality
Johnny Cash- Live at Folsom
Beat Happening- Black Candy, Jamboree
Calvin Johnson- What Was Me
David Bowie- Station to Station, Diamond Dogs, Let's Dance!
Devo- Freedom of Choice
Pixies- Come On Pilgrim, Doolittle, Trompe Le Monde
Mutant Pop (comp of early Fast Product bands- Mekons, 2.3, Human League, Gang of Four, Flowers, Scars)
Talking Heads- Stop Making Sense (Crappy live versions of their good songs, although the version of Girlfriend is Better is pretty good)
The Fire Escape- Psychotic Reaction!
The Clash- Combat Rock
Elvis Costello- My Aim is True
The Police- Syncronicity
Madness- S/T
Adam and the Ants- Stand and Deliver/Beat My Guest 12"
The Graduate Soundtrack
The Ventures- Surfin'

That is all I can think of right now.

These are mostly used record store/garage sale/antique store/salvation army finds, although a few of them are from new record stores (Pixies, SY, Fugazi)

HaydenAsche 06.12.2006 12:02 PM

I have too many vinyl to list. About 90% of them are 7".

screamingskull 06.12.2006 12:04 PM

my dad bought me a record player for my 16th birthday and so ive been collecting ever since then, i have quite a few now, still no where near as many cd's but its growning.

my most prized item so far is "from a basement on the hill" by Elliott Smith, it cost me a very pretty penny. but i love it.

Laila 06.12.2006 12:04 PM

i have never had a any 7" record and usually when i look they are all crap. what kind of records are put on those kind? cause i never find anything good or anything that i have even heard of. does it just depend if the artist puts it on that kind?

finding nobody 06.12.2006 12:05 PM

speaking of 7"s. i picked up a beatles one and a captin beefheart one.
the cheapest i can find the capt. beefheart online is 60 bucks! and i bought it for under two

marleypumpkin 06.12.2006 12:09 PM

Oddly enough, I have no home to live in @ the moment, I'm staying at a buddies house w/ all of my LP's scattered on the floor right now as we speak.
But, never the less, still getting to listen to vinyl.
Playing now;
YES- "Yes Live Shows"

7"s are in most cases the songs a group put out as a single. example "beatles- a side- sgt pepper's lonley hearts club band
- b side- with a little help from my freinds

"Houses Of The Holy"

Got it. I didn't think it was that hard to find.

whorefrost 06.12.2006 12:16 PM

my vinyl collection includes (but is not limited to) Sonic Youth, Dead Machines, Wolf Eyes, Stooges, Vincent Gallo, Mouthus, Polvo, Double Leopards, White Rock, Magik Markers, Black Dice, Big Black, John Coltrane, Deerhoof, Lightning Bolt, Shellac, Free Kitten, Thurston Moore, Make Up, Weird War, US Maple, Yo La Tengo, Jim O'Rourke, Loose Fur, Slint, Stereolab, Von Bondies, White Stripes, Prurient, Diskaholics Anonymous Trio, Sightings, Fugazi, Fitz of Depression, Red Krayola, Harry Crews, Live Skull...

SpectralJulianIsNotDead 06.12.2006 12:51 PM

Ooh, I forgot, I have the Clash's first album too.

I personally like 12" singles better than 7" singles. More B-sides and they fit right in with your LPs.

krastian 06.12.2006 03:32 PM

Cool shirt Laila.

HaydenAsche 06.12.2006 03:35 PM

I like splits. I was listening to a bunch of splits this morning. I really dig the Xiu Xiu/Devendra split 7". I'd say I have somewhere around 25 12 inch records, 3 10" records, and about 40 7 inches. Basically, I spend everything left over from paying for rent and food on records.

EMMAh 06.12.2006 03:38 PM

I have Pearl by Janis too :D

HaydenAsche 06.12.2006 03:39 PM

So... What's everybody's favorite record?

Savage Clone 06.12.2006 03:40 PM

You have your own place and you are in high school?
Fuckin' A.

A Thousand Threads 06.12.2006 03:42 PM

Splits are cool
Bardo Pond/Buck Paco 12" is very intense and great.
my favourite Bardo tune at the moment (havenīt had the change to purchase their new album)
Shellacīs 7"ers are very good (Rude Gesture is their best work ever in my humble opinion)

HaydenAsche 06.12.2006 03:45 PM

My parents = Trash

I moved in with friends. I don't have my own place. I have my own room.

Savage Clone 06.12.2006 03:51 PM

That counts.

HaydenAsche 06.12.2006 03:52 PM

I suppose it does. I'm gangsta.

finding nobody 06.12.2006 04:17 PM

i love the artwork for cheap thrills

A Thousand Threads 06.12.2006 04:27 PM

i really donīt know if i have any rare records
are any of the following rare?

Nothing Short of Total War (sampler on 12")
Pussy Galore - In The Red 12"
Boxhead Ensemble - Dutch Harbour 12"
Throbbing Gristel - 1st annual report 12"
Bardo Pond/Buck Paco 12" (limited to 300)

all my other record seem to be very common
