Wicked bad awesome take on my namesake in part 4.

atsonicpark 12.16.2008 07:12 AM

Thanks.

Tokolosh 12.16.2008 11:10 AM

Awesome indeed. Thanks.

Glice 12.16.2008 12:29 PM

Awesome vibraphone solo on 3. Otomo quoting Coleman as well!

I saw OYNJE in London a few years ago. Very good live band, I'm glad this recording managed to get Sachiko's sounds, I'd imagine a lower-quality recording would miss it entirely.

Rob Instigator 12.16.2008 12:33 PM

fucking awesome. THANKS

"Orange was the color of her dress" and "Hat and beard" were performed at Salle Jacques Brell in France on March 15, 2005. The turntable improvisation was on June 20, 2005 at Kid Ailiack Hall in Tokyo, Japan; and that beautiful guitar piece ("Theme from Canary") was performed on June 19, 2005 at Shinjuku Pit Inn in Tokyo, Japan.

"Eureka" was performed by The New Jazz Ensemble as well, and there are included bits of interviews with Otomo Yoshihide. Great stuff.

The DVD is still up at the traders' den. There are a bunch of seeders now so anybody interested in having this shouldn't have any problems to download it.

Awesome! I hardly check and download from TTD, i don't know why... but lately there was some great, great stuff torrented there. Thanks for the link, Hipster! I can't wait to this in full quality!

terminal pharmacy 12.17.2008 04:37 PM

great stuff

batreleaser 12.17.2008 07:30 PM

that was great shit, it ranged from screeching ayler fire music to totally tripped out like i dunno, lounge music or something. when did otomo get this group together?

hat and bread 12.17.2008 11:55 PM

ooooh, thanks.

Everyneurotic 12.18.2008 12:08 PM

i saw otomo twice two years ago.

the first time was a guitar duo with fred frith, calm as fuck but amazing nonetheless.

the second time, he played with his turntables making noise and feedback, then he picked up a guitar and played ornette's "lonely woman" all by himself, mind-fucking-blowing.

hat and bread 12.19.2008 03:06 AM

Otomo's score for Out to Lunch. I have a few more of these if anyone is interested.

I've been invited to go for dinner with him after his gig on the 8th of December by a Japanese friend of mine. DOES IT GET COOLER THAN THIS BITCHES??
Although I'm also really nervous because he's in my top 10 of geniuses making music today.

atsonicpark 11.26.2010 03:50 PM

Holy shit. I bow before thee, Genteel.

Is it worth me asking if you could pass him my CDr if I post you one? Or is that cheekier than a very cheeky thing?

Actually fuck it - if I send you a CD, would you pass it on to him?

atsonicpark 11.26.2010 04:00 PM

Do you think he'll have a translator, or do you think he speaks decent English?

Good question. My friend speaks English because he lives here, so it shouldn't be a problem.

Do you still have my address?

Glice 11.26.2010 04:28 PM

Not sure - could you re-send it?

Glice 11.26.2010 04:29 PM

Also, I've seen/ heard him interviewed in English before. It was a bit stilted, but I'm sure you can manage a natter.

Genteel Death 11.26.2010 04:37 PM

To be honest, I don't want to pester him with annoying geeky questions because it looks like it's going to be just the 3 of us, and both of them are long term friends, so I imagine they'll have a lot to tell each other. I'll pm you my address.

Everyneurotic 11.26.2010 06:33 PM

See. Him. Live.

That's all

Also, best of luck Porky. I'm not passing any questions for him, just slap some sense into him recording new Ground Zero stuff.

Genteel Death 12.08.2010 12:40 PM

Tonight!

Genteel Death 12.09.2010 03:53 AM

The whole night, predictably, was very enjoyable. Hanging out with such friendly, warm and talented people was extremely humbling. We ended up eating the tastiest sushi my friend prepared for the occasion inside the venue itself. The staff joined us and fun was had by all. There wasn't much of a conversation about music going on because both Otomo and Sachiko like their food, so that was the main topic all night. Sachiko especially has to be the most contagiously enthusiastic person making music I have ever met. I chatted to Otomo a bit towards the end of the night about gear and electronic devices, but the real scoop was finding out that childhood manga cartoon favourite Lady Oscar has been turned into a musical and the harsh copyright war over Candy Candy, another childhood favourite. Glice, I never got your cd, did you send me one?

Glice 12.09.2010 04:25 AM

No, I didn't, I've had problems. Laziness problems. Boo to me. Glad you had a good time though.
