What do you think of sweater jackets?

yay or nay?

ploesj 01.05.2009 10:43 AM

do you mean the jackets with a sweater hood attached, so it looks like you are wearing a jacket over a hoodie?

i don't really mind those, although i like the real thing (an actual hoodie and jacket). if you take these off, you suddenly see he or she isn't wearing a sweater at all. or maybe wearing two which has no point again.

floatingslowly 01.05.2009 10:48 AM

unless it's a hoodie (made by Dickies), sweater jackets just aren't gangsta enough for me.

o'connor 01.05.2009 10:54 AM

yay. i even like those old people ones too. f'sho.

blunderbuss 01.05.2009 11:03 AM

Anything you have to ask, it's best to assume the answer will go against you.

in my opinion this clothing item has an aura of extreme awesome

gmku 01.05.2009 11:21 AM

currently sporting this version: http://www.jcrew.com/AST/Browse/Mens...1294/11294.jsp

Aah, zip-up cardigans. I own two, and I feel very uncool when I wear them. I prefer the traditional button-up V-neck cardigan, but the general concensus seems to be that they should only be worn by people who are drawing a pension and eating a Werthers Original.

ploesj 01.05.2009 11:25 AM

ooooh those. i don't mind them. the one you have looks really good gmku.

gmku 01.05.2009 11:27 AM

I heart j. Crew. They do great things with classic looks. I just wish I could afford more of them. I usually shop their sale items only--this is the first time I've purchased a J. Crew item at full retail.

I also have their shawl collar cardigan, a dressier thin cardigan, and this thing. I do like a good sweater or two!

So not true! As stated above, I own two button-up v-neck cardis, a bulkier shawl collar version and a thinner dressy kind. They are very cool at any age, in my humble opinion.

ploesj 01.05.2009 11:30 AM

i shoulg get more sweaters, or warm clothes in general. all i can do in winter is wear five layers of summer tops or t-shirts and throw a cardigan over it.

too bad i can't stand wool on my skin, i love the lok of pretty knitted sweaters...

gmku 01.05.2009 11:32 AM

Yeah, get the right kind and you can dress em up or down. I often wear my cardigans with just a t-shirt and jeans, but I can also throw them over a dress shirt and slacks for a fancy restaurant date or whatever.

Like Starsky, you mean?

gmku 01.05.2009 11:36 AM

The best ones have been trimmed down a bit since then. Mine's like the one Daniel Craig wore in Casino Royal, like the one at the bottom of this page: http://gentlemenstandard.blogspot.co...-cardigan.html

i wear mine with my dresses very often, sonce they're all summer dresses i turn into winterish ones with tights and cardigans.

i barely ever close them though.

the latest one i bought wat a dark blue one with white polkadots, from comme des garçons for H&M

!@#$%! 01.05.2009 11:40 AM

i generally dislike wearing knit goods. there's a place for sweaters, but in my world, sweaters gotta know their place and keep within their bounds. that's right-- no knit pants, shirts, jackets, underwear, floppy hats, "sweater hybrids", handmade scarves, etc. no. maybe a knit cap (black only), maybe some wool gloves when necessary--end of.

when i was a little kid, one of my friends wore wool pants knit by his mom, i swear.

this didn't make life easy for him, but he survived.

haha ha-- horrible as they are, those sins seem more forgivable in women's wardrobes, which have more tolerance for puffy objects anyway.

but yeah...

99 % of the items on that site are never forgivable. not in anyone's wardrobe.

Don't ask me why, but whenever I watch that guy with the beard in Sideways, I always think of you. Believe it or not that's an enormous compliment.

gmku 01.05.2009 01:24 PM

sorry, which one's that? Paul Giamatti? Ha ha! I can see that. Appearance-wise, I'm a bit taller and thinner, though, and overall happier and handsomer.

Rob Instigator 01.05.2009 01:26 PM

I fucking hate sweaters and have hated sweaters for my entire life, the puffy shits.

Can't stand them, but two christmases ago, my girlfriend's mom gave me a blue cardigan (the mr roger's type) and I was thankful bvecause it was cold and the sweater made me warm but it is a fucking sweater. I hate sweaters.

Sonic Youth 37 01.05.2009 01:30 PM

Sweaters are starting to grow on me some...although my favorites tend to look like something Freddy Kruger would wear.

On a clothing note, picked these up a couple of days ago for $50 off normal price.

gmku 01.05.2009 01:37 PM

I don't know where my wardrobe would be without sweaters.

Nice find, SY. What's the brand?

He's one of my favourite movie characters in years. About ten minutes from the end of Sideways, when he's sitting alone in that diner pouring Pinot Noir into his empty coke beaker, I was like, I could just watch this guy for hours. Like I said. It really was a compliment.

Sonic Youth 37 01.05.2009 01:45 PM

Dr. Martens. Nubuck outer material.

gmku 01.05.2009 01:57 PM

Nice.

non leather? did you find them online or in a store? i need some non canvas shoes.

gmku 01.05.2009 03:57 PM

That's very insightful.

acousticrock87 01.05.2009 04:17 PM

I like them, but sometimes they have to be worn well. I usually wear a long-sleeve plaid shirt over mine with the sleeves sticking out, cause just the sweater looks a little weird on me. It's hard to explain, but I like it a lot. And it's really warm.

uhler 01.05.2009 04:29 PM

sweaters look amazing on me and i look amazing wearing one.

acousticrock87 01.05.2009 04:33 PM

This is what I meant, for sweaters that don't look that good on me:

I had to take a notorious mirror-shot for this. I was not proud.

gmku 01.05.2009 04:37 PM

That's an interesting look.

They are leather. I found them in a store, normal price is $70. I found them at a store called Ross. Kind of a store that gets the stuff that doesn't sell well at normal stores.

I needed shoes to wear in the rain instead of Chucks.
