No Age is slowly growing on me
They've got some seriously good hooks that have snared me. The verse on Teen Creeps and that little riff are simply awesome.
|
Yeah man! I really really like them
Nouns' second half is awesome They were really good when I saw them live too |
Me Too! I'm just starting to listen to them. They're really good
|
They're growing on you?
You may want to go to the doctor to get that removed. |
Ha!
|
the last track on that album.. BRAIN BURNER? is their best song i think
|
i like these guys. i've seen them twice, and both times i ended up dripping with sweat/blood and a very sore right toe. a lot of fun

i agree and probably the only good one. i first liked the record but it gets shittier with every listen. |
I just think they're boring as fuck. Boring badly recorded shit (that doesn't benefit from being lo-fi).
|
definitely, i like that song and another one though. they make it work there.
|
I really like the record. I listen to it and I rock it hard. it is good shit!!!! Lo-fi? I just love the skronk!!!!!!!!!!!!
|
no age = \m/
i love it. |
times new viking do basically the same thing only infinitely better.

No Age along with Fucked Up know punk rock and exemplify it beautifully. TNV are more of a stunt, an act than a band. |
sure dude, especially fucked "we're innovative because we write 6 minute punk songs that are boring as shit" up.
|
The thing I like about No Age is that they're totally not pretentious. I've seen them live twice now and they put on a really good show, but afterwards they're totally cool about talking with people. I've talked to Randy twice for a bit and he's a real cool guy.
In regards to their music, I'm not going to try and argue that it's really "original". However I find for me that it's just really fun to put on one of their records and rock out to it. I like how some of their songs are high energy punk songs and then there are the more ambient noise tracks (for lack of a better term) as well. Brain Burner is one of my favorite songs of theirs but Everybody's Down is their best to see live. |

why can't we have both? |
yeah, times new viking and no age are both pretty good. neither are that great though, tbh.
|
I love lo-fi stuff, you know... Ignatz and Hospitals and stuff like that, real lo-fi recorded-in-a-toilet-bowl stuff. I don't think No Age really benefits from being lo-fi though, as I think the production of their songs actually need a bit of a sparkle and punch to 'em. Because they feel really lifeless -- which they are, it's boring mundane mediocre rock shit without much going on. Not innovative in the least, by the way. A lot of bands like Pavement, Sebadoh; they were lo-fi because they HAD TO BE. Just sayin'.
|
I need to listen to this album more. The first few times I heard iot there was a lot of background noise and I thought the music was excellent. Upon listening to it now, there may have been confusion betweeen the music and background noise.
|
i like one song. The rest is background rock.
|
"boring mundane mediocre rock shit" does not describe NO AGE
it describes Counting Crows, or the wallflowers or soul asylum, maybe, but not a skronk loving rock band like No age. |
No it applies to No Age. Counting Crows, the Wallflowers, and Soul Asylum are all soft rock though.
|
No age rules. yr ears are jaded.
|
I guess I'm just not as easily impressed as most people.
|
And the vocals are goddamn annoying. I have a high tolerance for 'bad singers' but that dude is completely tuneless.
|
"boring mundane mediocre rock shit"...pretty much. see i love punk stuff so i gave them several listens to all these claims about them being an awesome punk band. so wrong. and they're even less skronk than they are punk. but lets not deteriorate into genre discussion.
|
stop worrying about labels
it's just a band and I, and lots others, enjoy their RAWK |

i think their overall releases and live show are a whole lot better than no age. "nouns" was good upon first listen, but now i can't listen to it. it's a sleep over fest without the party. just the sleep. the "666" ep is my favorite mika miko release. |
I've yet to see Mika Miko live, I think they never came this side of the Atlantic - at least they never came near Lille. No Age however I've seen last year and they put on a very good show, though the crowd wasn't really into it (it was in a small festival, in a room, and after no age played two techno bands, which most people came to see).
I like Mika Miko's album over the 666 EP, but that might be cause I haven't listened to it too often. I think Nouns' second half is really fantastic. Those six last songs are fulled with energy, they give me an urge to shake my head, which is exactly what i ask them - though it can be a drawback in the subway |
i dont get how people can not like this album. its epic.
|
No Age died slowly on me.

I felt like that at first, but then on repeated listenings and with cranked volume the hooks really started working their magic. |

that's how AC make me feel. |

You can probably train yourself to appreciate any aspect of a band if you want to. If you want to give any band enough time and listen 500 times and waste your life, sure, you can find plenty of little things you like about them. No Age has a few little things I like about them, but then I'm not quick to completely hate almost any band that isn't name the Mars Volta. I'm just saying, it's still boring crap that doesn't do anything special. It's fine if you like it. They're just not terribly important or doing anything terribly special, from any angle.
