I love the Wipers.

Honestly, I get more shit for this band than any other (because they are "boring") but fuck I love them.

I guess I should have posted this under that "blown away" thread but it's St. Patrick's Day so fuck it.

IT'S SUCH A LONG WAY DOWN! Maybe a floor below would ease the pain.

atsonicpark 03.18.2009 02:57 AM

Who ever said they were boring?

Ace band, great first 3 albums and some good songs here or there on all the others.

pbradley 03.18.2009 02:58 AM

A handful of people I know but you do not.

atsonicpark 03.18.2009 03:12 AM

Sound like they're a bunch of boring people.

[Sandbag] 03.18.2009 07:35 AM

they're awesome..not boring at all.

chairman of the bored 03.18.2009 09:30 AM

i got that collection with their first three albums in it about a year ago and have had one of the cds in my car at all times since...they maybe dont have the instant "holy shit thats crazy awesome" appeal of...lightning bolt or something...but a couple listens and i was hooked

batreleaser 03.18.2009 11:29 AM

whoa, anyone who says a band like the wipers is boring is not only wrong, theyre stupid. i havnt ever heard anyone say that, even those not into them can appreciate them, hard band not to like really.

batreleaser 03.18.2009 11:29 AM

i actyually like the first five albums to be honest, but the first three dont have a bad song. i have them on the boxset thing.

DJ Rick 03.18.2009 02:02 PM

Most people upon first listening to The Wipers will either like them immediately or have trouble getting over the vocals.

I've heard the "boring" thing a couple of times, and I suppose that's due to the rhythm section always staying strictly in the pocket with no fancy frills. But these are kids riddled by ADHD, Mr. Bungle, video game music, and so-called "math-rock" which really doesn't progress past algebra I rock (they choke on the calculus-level stuff like Trout Mask or U.S. Maple's Talker). It takes a lot to deprogram bad taste like that.

Derek 03.18.2009 02:12 PM

But I love Mr. Bungle and video game music :(

DJ Rick 03.18.2009 02:33 PM

But that seems to be ALL they are willing to like!

Derek 03.18.2009 02:56 PM

Yes, fair point!

The Wipers are a genius band by the way. Amazing guitar lines!!

atsonicpark 03.18.2009 03:05 PM

Yeah, Disco Volante is amazing. And everyone I've personally know into Mr. Bungle is an open-minded, interesting person.

sarramkrop 03.18.2009 03:10 PM

I listen to The Wipers very often in the morning on my way to work. They don't bore me at all, if they bore someone else, I'm sure they understood that they should be listening to something else, by now.

atsonicpark 03.18.2009 03:21 PM

"When It's Over".

All I'm saying.

Yeah same here... but I've met some Mr Bungle fans online and... oh god.

atsonicpark 03.18.2009 04:09 PM

As far as their later stuff is concerned, anyone else a big fan of "I'll be around"? I love that song.

batreleaser 03.18.2009 05:21 PM

"Push me OVER THE EEEEEEEEDGE!", "RETURN OF THE RAT"

the Wipers were the kings of fist pumping opening tracks.

Derek 03.18.2009 05:29 PM

Thanks.

sarramkrop 03.18.2009 05:31 PM

No problem. The competition was really tough.

atsonicpark 06.22.2010 10:33 PM

Derek 06.23.2010 04:53 AM

I was just about to listen to Youth of America on my bike ride!

davenotdead 06.23.2010 11:09 AM

automatic bzooty 06.23.2010 12:36 PM

youth of america makes me feel like i'm in an 80s/90s arcade game. like street fighter or something.

Murmer99 06.23.2010 02:17 PM

who cares if anyone thinks theyre boring? if you like a band then listen to them without caring about being judged.

to be honest, im such a big fan i like every single album they released...

atsonicpark 06.23.2010 02:43 PM

Eh. "Silver Sail" is pretty bad imo..

Yeah, dude, that's why I didn't make this thread and stopped listening to the Wipers altogether.

atsonicpark 06.23.2010 02:55 PM

Mad, man.

"The legend about this record is that the band had already broken up, Kurt Cobain made them commercially viable again by namechecking and covering them all the time, and Greg Sage purposely torpedoed his chances of cashing in by releasing a quiet, gentle Wipers album that had no similarity to his previous work or relevance to the youth grunge audience."

If that's true then damn, Greg Sage rules even if it did result in a shitty album.

i really like Sage's solo debut, _Straight Ahead_.

reminds me of Ed Kuepper a bit.

atsonicpark 06.24.2010 12:53 PM

I agree, that solo album is amazing, really depressing.

SpectralJulianIsNotDead 06.24.2010 01:09 PM

I have never met anyone who knows who the Wipers are and doesn't like them. When I do I will punch them in the face. Well not really, because I am not a violent person.
