who hates going to the movies?

besides the fact that yr watching a huge screen, the movies can really suck. It's expensive and there's usually teenage jerks on their cellphones. Plus (at least around here) you can't drink beer and watch a movie.

atsonicpark 04.09.2009 11:19 AM

I just don't think there's any movies worth going and seeing anymore. So, sure, the movies suck.

Derek 04.09.2009 11:19 AM

All the newer movies that I'd like to see don't get shown here in the cinema. I just go when my friends want to... and it's more about being with my friends than actually enjoying the movie in that case.

atsonicpark 04.09.2009 11:21 AM

I am going to see Crank 2 in theaters. I loved the first one in theaters. Watching it at home wasn't that great but in theaters.. whoo boy! And this looks EXACTLY the same, so..

pbradley 04.09.2009 11:22 AM

Depends on the theater. There was this great place in San Francisco that served cocktails and other drinks at one of their screens. I had a martini when watching Casino Royale.

Most places are dirty and uncomfortable, though.

noisereductions 04.09.2009 11:23 AM

the only movies I go to are ones that I'm super anticipating. Halloween, Hostel 2, Friday the 13th, tarantino, MBV, etc.

Dr. Eugene Felikson 04.09.2009 11:24 AM

The audience can really make or break a theater experience. Unfortunately, they tend to perfect the latter. It's so hard to watch a flick when twenty little blue squares keep forcing me to take my eyes off the screen.

Plus, it's amazing to me just how many seem to not care about actually watching the movie, after they've spent so much money on tickets, popcorn, and drink.

I go to the movies twice a year, at most, these days. There's just nothing really worth seeing anymore, especially when compared to the countless classics that I haven't discovered. Which are all readily available for viewing in the privacy of my own home.

atsonicpark 04.09.2009 11:26 AM

Last movie I went to the theater to see was Eastern Promises. Everything else I was mildly interested in, I watched online.

noisereductions 04.09.2009 11:27 AM

^yr like me. Yes.

The best movie going experience I had in Yeaaaars was Rob Zombie's Halloween. The theater was sold out, opening night. SO I figured "great, this is going to be distracting and frustrating" but the theater was super tight that night about letting in under-18's so it was like nothing but 20-30 yr olds who you could tell grew up on slashers. Everyone was totally into the film, no one being obnoxious. It was great.

afterthefact 04.09.2009 11:30 AM

When you have kids, you end up going more. Of course when I was 16-17 (my age, of course; I was never in the band), I went all of the time. Now all I go for are kids movies. That works for me, since they are the only movies worth watching most of the time.

Dr. Eugene Felikson 04.09.2009 11:36 AM

Fast And Furious tops box office

Fast And Furious
has raced to the top of the US box office chart.
Vin Diesel's reunion with his cast mates from 2001's The Fast And The Furious was a smash debut with a 71 million-dollar weekend.
The street-racing sequel co-stars Paul Walker, Michelle Rodriguez and Jordana Brewster.
Reese Witherspoon's latest film Monsters Vs Aliens was second in the chart, while The Haunting In Connecticut was third, followed by Knowing, I Love You, Man, Adventureland, Duplicity, Race To Witch Mountain, 12 Rounds and Sunshine Cleaning.

I hate going to the fucking movies,.

I hate that they NEVER clean the seats,
I hate the shitty projections, one projectionist for 24 screens.
I hate the overpriced soda and popcorn.
I hate people who bring in kids under age 13 to R rated movies
I hate people who talk the whole movie. (during watchmen, me and my g/f and my bro sat in front of a younger couple who talked the entirre time, until I could not take it any more and turned around and LOUDLY said "SHUT UP. YOU ARE NOT AT HOME, YOU KNOW."
I hate the idiots who laugh at the poignant moments, ruining it.

SuchFriendsAreDangerous 04.09.2009 11:43 AM

i've been to all of two movies in seven years.. the theater is terrible, i enjoy to chill in my surround sound and blaze up a big spliff rather than get up in the crowd of consumption..

gualbert 04.09.2009 11:51 AM

I hate it too.
The sound's too loud, people are annoying,.. so many drawbacks (and I want to smoke when I watch a movie).

uhler 04.09.2009 11:52 AM

me.

noisereductions 04.09.2009 11:56 AM

You must spread some Reputation around before giving it to Rob Instigator again.

^ Ditto! :)

There is a theater by me though that screens $2 movies and sells $1 sodas and hot dogs. They get all of the mainstream shit about a month after its release date, worth the wait if you ask me.

Lucky for me, I have the Foundation for Art and Creative Technology's picturehouse right here in Liverpool (www.fact.co.uk) so I have a fantastic local cinema. I went to see Monsters vs. Aliens 3D there the other day- the clientele is just artfags drinking wine and being polite and quiet. I love it. They have reclining seats like aeroplanes too. Good times.

noisereductions 04.09.2009 12:20 PM

^see? THEN I'd LOVE going to the movies.

SuperCreep 04.09.2009 01:37 PM

I haven't been in a theater in three years. Too fucking expensive and none of the movies ever catch my interest. I'll probably break my streak when Where the Wild Things Are comes out, though.

As far as I'm concerned - my 37" HDTV + surround system, privacy of my own living room, comfy recliner, and my own damn food >>>>>>>>>>>>>>> theaters

Antagon 04.09.2009 02:05 PM

The last time I went to the movies an immature pseudo rich-guy sat next to me. He was laughing loudly and didn't seem to get the film (It was a documentary about neo liberalism and the financial crisis). He then turned on his iPod and pumped up the volume to the max. In the rows behind me people imitated animal noises. BLOODY BOLLOCKS!

EVOLghost 04.09.2009 04:03 PM

Eh. Too expensive. 10 fucking dollars....and now student discounts(if you can really call that) are only on Thursdays...Oh and Matinees start like at 2 or 3...WTF! Eh, I only go for super awesome movies.....Last one I saw was Watchmen.

Derek 04.09.2009 04:04 PM

I thought you said you only go for super awesome movies.

AH yes...there's a theatre like that in some rich suburb near here.

joe11121 04.09.2009 04:16 PM

I only go with a group of friends, I do hate going to them though.
People talking throughout the entire movie.
Cell Phones going off.
Overpriced everything.
Even tickets are overpriced there.

Silent Dan Speaks 04.09.2009 05:41 PM

I love going. I think I just like experiencing a movie with more people.

Derek 04.09.2009 06:07 PM

Diesel, I think that's been your most straight-forward post yet haha.

This might actually be the single most valuable tip I've ever got from the internet.

LifeDistortion 04.09.2009 08:34 PM

Hm, I've always enjoyed the movie going experiance. No particular reason why, I just would hate the idea of movie theatres going obsolete. Not that's they are going to, at least I don't believe they would, I don't go for the disgusting popcorn, I don't go to laugh or applaude with a group of strangers. I just go to see a good movie. I don't go nearly as much as I used to. If I see a movie every three months, that's becoming more common, I used to go to the movies every two weeks probobly, not so much anymore. I'm picky as hell about what I see, I hate going to the movies just to get out and seeing a medicore film. I like to wait till there is something worth seeing, but yes I still like going to movie theatres.

joe11121 04.09.2009 09:51 PM

Oh! Also, people who shout out during the movie, ex. "That was hilarious!" YES we all know it was funny, we were all listening. If we were def then we wouldn't be at the movies, would we?
And, people who have already seen the movie who come back to the theatre to watch it again, and shout out either things like "A funny part is coming up", or when they give away the ending, or another significant part of the film, ugh! Some people who go to the movies piss me right off.

Lamont Cranston 04.09.2009 10:07 PM

noisereductions you'd like the independent cinemas here in Melbourne they all sell alcohol.
Going to the Astor Theatre hasn't been fun lately, seems like every time I go there is also this fat retarded Asian guy who laughs hysterically at inappropriate moments, calls out as well as ohs & ahs & gasps & yes! & no!, makes a pig of himself taking up two adjacent seats with food and drink, behaves obscenely, and et cetera during the film.
You know the theatre scene in both versions of Cape Fear? Like that but worse and more juvenile.
Completely fucking ruined The Wild Bunch and RoboCop.

phoenix 04.10.2009 09:38 AM

honestlly, i prefer the drive in. the regular cinema sucks ( used to workthere, how many of you fuckers need to shoot heroin and cut your toenails whil watching a movie for fucks sake???)

EVOLghost 04.10.2009 01:05 PM

^^ lol holy shit. Who shoots heroin at a movie/?/

Derek 04.10.2009 01:06 PM

heroin addicts who love movies

Haha it's pretty expensive though unless you're willing to become a member. Also it's sometimes too arty for its own good, not showing fairly obvious new releases, so sometimes I have to go to a normal-people cinema to see things.
