what do you listen to while sleeping or just really mellowing out
 

I've been staying up late the last few nights to do some serious book reading, and I haven't been getting to bed until around 5 when the birds are just starting to sing. Last night it started raining heavily where I live, I listened to Future Sound of London ISDN, and the entire Lifeforms album while simultaneously listening to the rain and morning birds, while I was relaxing off to sleep. That was a great thing.

I've been brought up listening to Neil Young's 'After the gold rush' at bedtime.There isn't another record that puts me to sleep like that one.It's a musical teddy bear.

Yoshimi & Yuka - Flower With No Color

A collaboration between super-ace drummer/trumpeteer Yoshimi (of Boredoms and OOIOO), and NY/Jap ex-Cibo Matto performer Yuka Honda. Most of this was recorded on a field trip up Mount Fuji, and then taken back to the studio for processing. The end result is a mix of birdsong, distant trumpets, glockenspiel style percussion, and the odd wobbly vocal. Sometimes ambient, sometimes jazz-cool, sometimes ethnic Japanese and sometimes just plain oddball, this all combines to make a very mellow and organic sounding CD

I can fall asleep to anything.

Drum n Bass, Hardcore Techno, Metal, etc.

Low is fine when slubering

I like this album for little naps.

No, but all being well my girlfriend and I are getting a place together later in the summer. The sale of my flat's going through at the moment, then she'll sell her place, and we'll get a small mansion* somewhere in Surrey.

* All this is true except the small mansion. It'll actually be a three bedroom semi.

It's surprising how good post-metal type music is at helping the drifting-off-to-sleep process. I guess that's easy to explain when it's drone-y type stuff, but I've been dozing off quite well to some stuff with fairly heavy riffs lately.

Yeah, I keep dozing off in front of the telly as well. Usually during Antiques Roadshow.

I should say I'm 6 months older than you! Those antiques and gardening programmes seem to get better as you get older

The antiques ones get a bit scary when you remember your parents buying the things that people have brought in.

When I was little, I would watch this Sesame Street video called Bedtime Stories and Songs. It's a masterpiece.

Loveless...turned down really low or if you can fall asleep with noise turned way up. Either way, if I'm tired and its dark, I can hardly stay awake while listening to it. Or go with some Floyd or Miles Davis

I love Floyd, but I can't listen to them when I'm trying to chill out, the lyrics just keep drawing me in. I've always wished there was more instrumental Floyd.

Its usually either the Smashing Pumpkins' 'Siamese Dream' (although its more my getting up in the morning album) or 'Mellon Collie & The Infinite Sadness'. Although 'Daydream Nation' is usually quite relaxing (put some candles on, light some insense sticks and fall slowly to sleep). Don't ever put 'Bad Moon Rising', 'Goodbye 20th Century', 'Invito Al Cielo' or anything by John Cage on before you go to bed...The Nightmares man! The Nightmares! lol

I would say 'Dark Side of the moon' but its too depressing to fall asleep to!

While studying i found out rather quiet/monotonous (noise/drone) music works fine for me. Persian surgery dervishes by Terry Riley was an awesome listen too!

at the moment if i am in a quiet mood i listen to JOMF, six organs of admitance, pelt or john coltrane. sometimes supersilent 6.

Right now, I'm doing some Miles Davis - Silent Way....damn what a great album...

the ultimate mellow out moment of the day for me, is to light a spliff, take a deep drag, and get into the groove and the let the good times roll to the perfect dead versions of the 12 minute scarlet begonias -> 15 minute fire on the mountain. nothing is more pacifying for me..
