Favourite Collaborations in music
What do you like?
I'm not sure who will agree with me on these or not but here's a few of mine... The Velvet Underground & Nico - on the s/t album M83 & Morgan Kibby - on album, saturdays = youth SY & Chuck D (lol, just kidding) etc. etc. there's a lot more I just can't think of any at the moment. |
I think we've had this thread, but my all time favorite collaboration is the Residents/Renaldo and the Loaf's "Title in Limbo".
|
Ah shit, I searched too.
|
It doesn't really matter. I know I listed a lot more in the other thread but my mind's blank right now (just woke up).
|
two obvious ones:
Bowie/Pop Bowie/Eno |
mf doom and madlib is a good one
bonny billy and tortoise is a bad one i liked boris and sunn 0))) |

and to a much lesser extent, bowie/reed. i get a lot of lolz from bowie/jagger, too. not that it's any good. eno/talking heads john cale/nico |
Aidan Baker & Thisquietarmy
Lee Ranaldo & Birchville Cat Motel |
Conrad Schnitzler and Mayhem, just for the sheer unlikeliness of it.
|
^yeah, that shit is great
|
Not really a collaboration, since they were in the same band, but I really like the duet between Blixa Bargeld and Nick Cave on The Weeping Song.

I'm not sure if that really counts. incredible record though |
Eno/Byrne
Vega/Pan sonic |
I ordered a Borknagar album a few weeks ago, and they're quite the black metal supergroup, with Garm (Arcturus, Ulver) on vocals, Infernus (Gorgoroth) on bass, Grim (Gorgoroth, Immortal) on drums, Ivar Bjornson (Enslaved) on keyboards and Oystein G Brun (Molested) on guitar.
|
The Ex + Tom Cora released two albums.
My favourite is And the Weathermen Shrugged Their Shoulders. I missed the Ex when they toured with Getatchew Mekurya; samples I got on Youtube were promising. |
Huey Lewis & The News?
|
Boris/Keiji Heino
The Sound Of Animals Fighting - a collab group for members from RX Bandits, Circa Survive, Chiodos, and a few other bands... one of the dudes from Sunn does their albums artwork I would like to hear the M83 & Morgan Kibby collab... |
I would add Fripp to those Talking Heads, Bowie and Eno.
|
fripp and eno
theatere of eternal music residents/renaldo and the loaf AFCGT (a frames climax golden twins, the best at the moment for sure) acic mothers temple/gong masonna/to live and shave in la (masonna pussy badsmell is a sick sick record) sanguine piss wolf eyes (i mean, initially they were thought of as just some super collab between dilloway, nate young, and spykes) keiji/derek bailey theres lots |
UUUUUU and Earth Incubator
|
Actually, isn't every band you like really just a collaboration between different musicians? :)
|
Neurosis and Jarboe
Melvins and Jello Biafra Mike Patton and Dillinger Escape Plan |

Substitute Gwyneth Paltrow for the News and you're really on to something. |

i suppose they are allcollaboreations yes, but the ones when two musician who are known for something else and cme togethr to crete a sort of temporary thing is more thought of as yknow, a collab.
i havnt even though of all the great jazz collabs until now: miles/coltrane bill dixon/anthny braxton derek bailey/peter brotzzman coltrane/mingus ayler/sanders albert and don ayler rasied ali and ayler miles and mclaughlin brotzzman/sharrock sanders/sharrock bailey/sharrock thelonious/coltrane damn, so many. i like obsessing over jazz. |
