How to come off as not awkward?

Yeah I know none of you really like me too much so this might be a waste of my time. I dunno.
Okay well just telling it straight, I'm a loser.. obviously.. and haven't really made any friends, lately. Whenever I have tried to make some, I normally get the response 'You're being awkward' as a reason for them not wanting to talk to me. This makes no sense to me because I thought I was a relatively friendly person? Maybe I just don't know how to approach people to even say hello, but at least I try and I would think that should count for something. I would hope?

Whatever, basically, for anyone who's been in this situation before, what are you supposed to do?

phoenix 05.27.2009 09:31 AM

Blind leading the blind. As if anyone who posts here is not awkward irl.

floatingslowly 05.27.2009 09:36 AM

Hi! I would like to help. Please ask me anything!

gualbert 05.27.2009 09:43 AM

Become a winner!
Then you'll get lots of friends.

Rob Instigator 05.27.2009 09:46 AM

the awkward are the true winners.

they develop their coping skills early

pity the ones who were never awkward growing up who were never ostracized, thiose fucking losers will look back at high school as the single best times of their lives, pathetic fucks, and the 50-70 years after hiogh schopol will be a drudgery of bore and stupidity.

the awkward usually have very interesting lives after high school

greedrex 05.27.2009 10:02 AM

awkward is the new win.

Rob Instigator 05.27.2009 10:04 AM

of course, look at Lady gaga on the cover of rolling stone

that shit is like Missing Persons for the new millenium
and needless to say, i'd hit it, just for the freak freak

floatingslowly 05.27.2009 10:04 AM

^^^ is Rolling Stone magazine still relevant? actually, come to think of it, have they ever been?

I have found that when approaching people, it's best to look them in the eye before you start punching.

If they don't look away (or punch back), then you have made a friend for life.

afterthefact 05.27.2009 10:07 AM

Nothing is more awkward than a failed suicide. Make sure you do the job, because you don't want the awkward obligated sympathy you get if you botch it. AWKWARD!

Rob Instigator 05.27.2009 10:09 AM

It is relevant to irrelevancy!

Rob Instigator 05.27.2009 10:10 AM

massive hard fake tits on an anorexic frame is awkward

phoenix 05.27.2009 10:11 AM

is that tori spelling?

afterthefact 05.27.2009 10:11 AM

In all seriousness, to come off as not awkward, you need to make sure that when you are giving your attention to a person, don't seem desperate. Don't give the impression that you need them to like you. Confidence is the combatant of awkwardness.

phoenix 05.27.2009 10:14 AM

apparently irl, I have two voices. (so boyshape said)

I have nervous/fake happy retail voice, and my real voice.

nervous voice is like, an octave higher.

Maybe you should get a second voice to use with yr awkwardness. This may help. Though Im not sure how.

i don't even know what to type in response to the image of tori spelling. i'm kind of terrified, yet i can't look away

Rob Instigator 05.27.2009 11:06 AM

and it looks like her son is dead, laying next to her like a My Buddy doll

davenotdead 05.27.2009 11:08 AM

looks like he put drano in his juice bottle once he realized he was stuck with her as a primary caregiver

By being more awkward towards someone who thinks you're awkward.

i'm the same, i have my canadian voice, and my ugly foreign guy who listens to rap voice

pbradley 05.27.2009 03:22 PM

I'm far less awkward now than I have been four or five years ago.

automatic bzooty 05.27.2009 03:26 PM

i don't think i'm quirky though? i just get accused of it.

wellcharge 05.27.2009 03:28 PM

i really don't like quirky much, horrible adjective. if somebody called me that i'd be offended

yeah, i don't care for it much, either. i'm not sure if it's like, entailing "good weird" or "bad weird."

What do they say is quirky about you? You know, body movement, things you say etc.

ploesj 05.27.2009 03:35 PM

i used to look like what you get when you look for 'awkward' in the dictionary.

there is only weird and the varying degrees thereof.

for further reference:

[odd-->strange>-->weird-->bizarre-->disturbing]

as you can see, it's a balancing act.

it's just such an ugly sounding word....quirky....that it must be insulting

it sounds like some shitty dish of leftovers no one wants to eat. we'll be back from aunt janine's by thursday, kids; for dinner, there's some quirky in the blue tupperware.

afterthefact 05.27.2009 03:50 PM

Quirky sounds more like stuff that you would find clogging up some pipes in your crawlspace when you decide to repair the plumbing in your house.

Rob Instigator 05.27.2009 03:53 PM

quirky is like one degree below eccentric

afterthefact 05.27.2009 03:55 PM

Quirky is the young eccentric. When you are young, you are quirky. As you get older, you transistion into eccentric.

edited for uneccesary douchebaggery on my part.

i think their definition of quirky is closer to "generic indiefuck" than anything else. i don't think actual quirkiness really applies with me.

.... feels like i'm derailing the thread. awkward!
