Best racing game for the PS2/Gamecube?

Sooo.. basically, I've been playing a little of F-Zero GX, and I really like this, and it has reminded me that I actually used to love playing Need for Speed. What are some well-known racers that are really good? I've never been too into the genre, so anything is good with me as long as it's quality.

Also if you really really feel the need, you can recommend an X360 game instead, but I'd rather not, the 360 is in my brother's room and I'd rather have something where I wouldn't be bothering him constantly, then again if it has nice multiplayer then it could be an even deal? haha

GT4 for the PS2

Dude, if you don't have Mario Kart Double Dash, then you have NO IDEA. That game is incredible. Probably my favorite MK of the series.

I always loved Burnout. The crazy crashes and stuff.

They figured out that was the best part of the game, cause on Burnout 2, they had a crash challenge, to see how much damage you could do.

The Need for Speed games are great too.

Gran Turismo 4 on either ps2 or gamecube is delicious, so delicious.

I wouldn't want to even consider the amount of hours I've spent on that game, and yet I still can't afford anything better than a turbo charged Mazda.

The Robert Johnson of home console driving games.

No, and to be honest, the chase bits always got on my nerves. It was taking the least interesting aspect of GTA and welding it to a pretty basic GTR. It was good fun though.

Sprint was my number one go to game when I was little but Night Driver got the whole 3d thing going. It took it to the crossroads.

Digital Derby. A handheld classic

"You must spread more reputation around before giving it to demonrail666 again"

Beetle Adventure Racing for the N64 was more fun than should be allowed.

Hmm I think I'll go with Burnout, Gran Turismo, and Mario Kart.
is the Mario Kart fun/challenging as a single player game?
