Is smoking alone a sign of drug addiction?

I mean the reefer. Now, this IS a parody thread. But this is a real issue at hand here. I find myself doing it kind of often. I think people who say weed isn't a drug are dumb.
It is a damn fine and fun one that I would pick out of all others, but that doesn't mean it's not a drug

Weed's a drug, of course, but it's really the most harmless drug I can think of.

It's also kinda dull, to me, and boring, and has never really done much for me. But eh. If you like it... cool, man!

I've never felt any "addictive" qualities from it, personally. Then again, I've never felt "addicted" to anything, mentally or physically. The closest I ever came was when I felt like I had to jerk off daily for a good year there, but now I go a week or two without thinking about it sometimes, mainly because I find humanity disgusting though. I'm a very sexual person, but it takes the right OTHER person to get me going, and since she's uh... leaving me soon... yeah, I really just don't give a fuck anymore.

I do take quite a bit of hydros, but I've went months without taking them as well... I just like to feel good. I think, ultimately, that's what everyone is addicted to, mentally or not: Just the idea of feeling good.

For most relatively sane people it's fine, but there always have to be the idiots out there who fuck up and make the rest of us look bad.

I know a lot of people who smoke regularly on their own and are doing fine/even extremely successful.

But I've also known one person who pawned their stuff to buy another 8th....to smoke on their own...

When I smoked weed I smoked a couple of doobs each night by myself. I gave it up couple of months ago, because it just didn't do anything for me anymore, and I never really had the urge to start again. To me it's not addictive at all, I just went cold-turkey on it without any problems.

I plan on cutting down before next year. You start to take it for granted after smoking every damn day

Just to let everyone know, I feel no guilt for smoking weed, as it's become a part of my daily life, and except the fact that it helps me lead a less mundane existence.
Also, I've had the same job for 3+ years and coming in really high makes it more interesting.
I could stop right now, but I don't want to. I AM going to smoke maybe less for my girlfriend. maybe once or twice a week

Not a bad idea, I barely got high when I smoked and now when I do have a couple of drags (I sometimes smoke a bit but this only happens like once every two months) I get reaaally stoned.

Back when I smoked frequently, I preferred smoking alone than with others, especially in a party situation. Around other people the stuff made me feel paranoid for some reason, not of the other people, but of things. This one time I thought either cops or a flying saucer were outside our friends' house and insisted that my then-fiance take me home immediately. She did, and then hung out quietly with me on our front porch patiently waiting for me to calm down. I later married this wonderful woman.

Yeah! I forgot to point out that over the last 2 years I've quit for about a month on 2 separate occasions. (I had a terrible appetite and mild insomnia)
Getting high after not doing it for a while put me on my ass! God it was nice.

I'm serious when I say that was a defining moment. Yes, I'd committed to marrying her already, had already fallen in love, etc. But wow, that moment of her staying by me in a totally ridiculous moment and never once making fun of me... priceless.

I think it's probably a SIGN of drug addiction, just ike it is for alcoholism, but there are other symptoms that you have to have. I bascially think of weed and alcohol as about the same, except I guess alcohol is worse for you.

I guess you could make those comparisons with alcohol, but that supposes that alcohol is also a drug. I would define a drug as being pharmaceutical or synthetic. Things which occur in their natural state may not necessarily be safe (i'm think poisonous plants or jimson weed which fucks up the mind) but they are not necessarily drugs.

There are many definitions for drugs, I'm not using that one and, no offense, but I think it's slightly disingenuous.

this does not IMPLY SAFETY or SIMPLICITY, it just implies naturalness.

A plant can be dangerous. It can kill you in seconds. It can get you pleasantly high, or it can destroy your mind in a psychotic wasteland. Alcohol is perhaps the most dangerous substance we have ever devised, it kills tens of thousands of people a year through disease, accidents etc etc. Half of all shootings in America are alcohol related.. it is a terrible substance, but it plant based, it is relatively natural, and therefore it has its purpose. DRUGS on the other hand, tend to be man-made, synthetic and have no necessary purpose with a WICKED amount of side-effects.

I don't recommend people get out of their envelope with anything, plant or drug or otherwise, but I DEFINITELY do not promote drug use. Its just not my thing (this includes heroin, cocaine, vicodin, xanax, valium, etc etc)

These things are EVEN MORE DANGEROUS when used as a supposed medicine. I don't trust any substance that I can't just stop taking. With anti-depressants/anti-anxiety drugs you CAN'T just STOP taking them, you have to gradually step down. That shit is scary. And its similar with many pharmaceuticals.. they are mind-altering in a FAR more sinister way.. plus who sells this shit to us? I'll take a street pusher over a big rx company salesman any day of the week!
