I dont' know what yr listening to, but Fiona Apple is pretty non-commercial sounding to me.

I really like her. Became a fan after I heard that album she did with Jon Brion that her record company wouldn't let her release because it was too "uncommercial." It might have been commercial for a brief period when all that Lilith Fair shite she was unfairly grouped in with was popular (Lisa Loeb, Sara McLachlan, their ilk).

Of her three albums, WHEN THE PAWN is without a doubt my favorite. Jon Brion's production, paired with her voice is incredible. Perfect album.

She is hot, and it makes me want to be impressed, but she's embraced the moody chick stigma and evolved it to the point of annoying.... also doesn't give her much room to expand as an artist.... it all sounds the same. Her band - typical & boring.

...and I did see the Iconoclasts show w/ Quintin too. It was actually one of the more interesting ones. I found the whole show uncomfortable, because I don't think they've ever paired such an arrogant pair before. Neither of those two are even close to down to earth, so it was interesting.... watching them not know how to relate. Fionna's also closed off.... what I originally as reluctancy and all the typical bitter chick stuff, but think it's more about vanity now though. basically, she's a "sappy diva" and her music reflects it.
