luxinterior 06.27.2006 04:13 PM

I saw them in October, I think it was, instead of going to the Homecoming dance. How much more gay can that be? And the answer is none. None more gay.

porkmarras 06.27.2006 04:17 PM

Who?Jerry Springer?

porkmarras 06.27.2006 04:18 PM

Let's hope Le Tigre follow their example and decide to start cooking classes or something.

amen, brother, amen.

kathleen hanna should stop embarrasing herself in public. "my biggest hero in life is ian mackaye, now join me for some aerobics with paris hilton"

bytheriver 06.27.2006 04:26 PM

Absolutely fucking gutted, i just got into them when the Woods came out, was gonna go see them in Leeds but they cancelled, then I missed their rescheduled show, and now theyve split up. And they re are far and away my favourite band at the moment. Absolutely gutted. Seriously, like a disgraced samurai fish. That has totally ruined my day. Thank Christ the Portugal games not today.

Preach.

matt reeder 06.27.2006 09:22 PM

Three years ago a friend of mine took me to see Sleater-Kinney. I'd never heard them until the show, and by the end of the first song ("Call the Doctor") I was hooked. I've seen them three times now in all, and they were three of the best shows I've ever seen. I'm in a state of shock about this...though I could kind of see it coming.

They will be missed. I hope they do another show in Portland before hanging it up.

luxinterior 06.27.2006 10:14 PM

I can't wait to tell one of my friends the news. She is going to be devastated, and will probably think I'm joking, which makes it even more terrible.

It's too bad though. We really like Carrie, but so does everyone.

kingcoffee 06.27.2006 11:31 PM

Are you guys serious??? Sleater Kinney just released a record, though! No, and I never got to see them live!!! Damn. The only time I ever saw them perform was a couple of months ago on the Henry Rollins Show. Fuck.

mikec 06.28.2006 01:19 AM

Wow this is horrible news. I really got into them when I heard the Woods and saw them for the first time at Arthurfest last year. They were fantastic live, just a terrific band. I consider myself very lucky to be able to see them at one of their last shows.

youthoftomorrow 06.28.2006 03:04 AM

i saw them open for the White Stripes last summer and they fucking ruled.

badgercorn 06.28.2006 11:55 AM

I saw them a month ago and they were great. They'll be missed.

drrrtyboots 06.28.2006 11:56 AM

I hope to hell I can get to their nyc show in august, they're a lot of fun.

Rob Instigator 06.28.2006 12:26 PM

riot grrl was not media made. it was punk bands, chick bands, punks with their own indie network, making political music, . I guess sleatre kinney was from tht but they progressed and kept rocking long after the riot grrl movement died off.

bands

bikini kill, huggybear, excuse 17, hevanes to betsy, bratmobile.

Rob Instigator 06.28.2006 12:28 PM

it is cuz kathleen hannah is so amazingly HOT

porkmarras 06.28.2006 12:30 PM

To say that she is someone who made an entire career out of confusion would be an understatement.Give me Huggy Bear anytime.

Rob Instigator 06.28.2006 12:32 PM

I think you may have a bias towards the birtish bands porkmorrass.

porkmarras 06.28.2006 12:33 PM

Erm....why?

Rob Instigator 06.28.2006 12:44 PM

just kidding around. huggy bear is brits

porkmarras 06.28.2006 12:46 PM

But i'm not.I'm italian and i just happen to live in the UK.And besides, music really has no borders. Not for me anyway.

Pornographic is the first word that comes up to mind.

Rob Instigator 06.28.2006 12:53 PM

hey I had no idea! You are Italian?
that's cool.

and you live in the UK?

why? going to school? just liked it?

where in Italy are you from?

what is your favorite british band?

Is that band Uzeda not from Italy?

Rob Instigator 06.28.2006 12:54 PM

music definitely has no borders.

porkmarras 06.28.2006 01:05 PM

why? going to school? just liked it?Nope,i finished my studies quite a while ago.I lived here for the past 12 years.Initially i came here with the intention of staying for one year and then i ended up staying this length of time.

where in Italy are you from?I'm from Sardinia and have been brought all over the place in both that island and northern Italy.Good if you want to become a globetrottering schizophrenic i suppose.

what is your favorite british band?I don't really apply the metric system to liking bands.

Is that band Uzeda not from Italy?Yeah they are. They are undeniably a good band too, but i lost quite a huge chunk of interest in myriad so called 'math rock hardcore punk blah blah blah bands' a few years ago. That is not to say that i don't like rock music,it's just that it has become more of a commodity rather than a necessity.i'll probably change my mind tomorrow.__________________

Rob Instigator 06.28.2006 01:10 PM

tis the truth my man.

I am originally from Puerto Rico, land of plantains, salsa music, and big latin butts. I moved to Houston Texas USA in 1981, when I was 7.

thank goodness I did not live there to see the rise of reggaeton, although back in 1991 I went back to visit and the radio woud play these dancehall-reggae-in-spanish songs, and I was like, "what the fuck is this?" and now it is worldwide reggaeton. ha ha ha
I got to hear the rumblings, the beginnings.

take it easy

dazedcola 06.28.2006 01:40 PM

This sucks, man im in shock. How can they break up after releasing one of the greatest records of their career (the woods) and of last year. I loved their last record so much and im really dissapointed that i wont ever get to see them live now.

krastian 06.28.2006 03:08 PM

I agree....The Woods was solid. I guess it's best to go out with a roar than a whimper though.
