I watched an episode of xfactor the other day - and fuck me, people say that I'M into some weird shit. I think we have to accept that we're doomed and getting shallower day by day. but i don't know scientist still exist and shit - thats a lot smarter that I'll ever be... but they probably have very poor taste in music also.

I don't exaggerate when I say this place is one of more friendlier places to talk about vaguely interesting music.

Last.fm is a joke in itself, really -- I love the site, but is it any surprise that people make a joke of last.fm? "Wow, nice, showing your musical taste to the world -- good for you! Who cares?" I think that's what everyone's trying to say. It's probably just best not to get into the interactive part of it.

Last.FM still remains one of my favorites sites on the net, although I don't use it at all for the "social" aspect of it. Why? Because most of the users are indeed fucking retards. It's such a great idea for a site but a pity that so many people act like idiots on it. Deviantart is the same thing: great idea, bad community.

I actually just uninstalled the last.fm scrobbler thing. Not because I hate the users of the site but because I was thinking, "why would I want people to know exactly what I'm listening to?" I don't see the point.

Because it makes (often-very good) suggestions for other things to listen to

But if you just add artists to your playlist, it does the same thing.

I have never used the recommendation thing however so...

EDIT: and I just checked and I seem to already be into a lot of artists they're recommending me.

i use last.fm as a log of what i listen to. if people want to see what i've listening to then that's fine, maybe some people actually care, who knows?

yes a lot of people on last.fm are pretentious wankers who think that their musical taste is superior to everyone elses, and there is a lot of 4chan shit, but try to find some place on the internet that isn't infected with that lame crap? it is very fun to troll shoutboxes of bands like muse or the killers though.

Music discussion websites are doomed to fail by conception. I'd rather stick to a site that has a much more particular shared interest (like Sonic Youth) and then talk about everything but that interest.

I'm wondering why things like retards on last.fm or wherever else on the internet still bother some people.

Well actually this stems from some 4chan guy on last.fm vandalising the UUUUUU page. I didn't even know who he was or anything.

I wouldn't be so sure. it's not as bad as some other places, for sure, but there's still a few annoying old meme pics that pop up. sometimes they are funny but most often are annoying.

I think most people post the memes as a joke though, or post them on the irrelevant thread.
