White Album knock out! Side 1.

Choose your favorite from the first 10 songs.

sonicl 06.29.2006 10:34 AM

I'm having trouble deciding between Back in the USSR, Wild Honey Pie and While My Guitar Gently Weeps.

I'm gonna go for the last one.

SpectralJulianIsNotDead 06.29.2006 10:55 AM

I meant to make it multiple choice

Sheriff Rhys Chatham 06.29.2006 11:11 AM

kill me now, I've never listened to the white album.

DemonBox 06.29.2006 12:01 PM

It was a hard one. I voted for Happiness... back in the U.S.S.R came really close though

nomadicfollower 06.29.2006 12:04 PM

Honey Pie, Honey Piiiiiiiiieeeeeeeeee.

Tough choice, though, and now that I think about it, I don't know why I chose that...

m^a(t)h 06.29.2006 12:30 PM

Julia is my favorite, but since it isnt up there Happiness

baby bulldog 06.29.2006 03:49 PM

The White Album is just ridiculous.Side one alone equals greatness that bands to this day have been trying to equal.Perhaps someday now that it's been nearly 20 years since the first CD issue, they'll do a deluxe edition with both mono and stereo mixes, plus all those extra tracks that were never released. It was all 4 of the fabs at their most fried out time.Pure acid genius.

Neongod 06.29.2006 05:28 PM

Nice choice FN. I also went with Dear Prudence. I didn't even have to look at the list.

You'd probably pick Back in the USSR because you must be a FUCKING COMMUNIST!! You Red fuck! ;)
Seriously, you need to hear this album at least once. Not their best IMO, but damn good. It would have been the best if it had been a single album.

Hip Priest 06.29.2006 05:31 PM

The Continuing Story of Bungalow Bill

that's what george martin said! but i dont agree at all.
i love how much expremental shit went on this record yet it's one of the best selling albums of all time

krastian 06.29.2006 05:38 PM

Dear Prudence, bitches.

LifeDistortion 06.29.2006 06:17 PM

Its a damn near impossible choice to begin with. White album is one of the most and one of the few self-indulgent albums that is pure and utter gold. Beatles at thier creative peak for sure. As artists it was thier best work, and yet perhaps not a flawless record, at least Sgt. Pepper's and even Magical Mystery Tour come closer to that.

George Martin transformed The Beatles from a great band into one of the all-time best ever. That's not opinion either...it's a fact.
How dare you disagree with him!! :D

cryptowonderdruginvogue 06.29.2006 08:32 PM

while my guitar gently weeps

acousticrock87 06.29.2006 08:38 PM

I wish it wasn't $30, or I'd have gotten it long ago. But I've always loved I'm So Tired, even though I'm sure I'll be the only one.

SpectralJulianIsNotDead 06.29.2006 08:44 PM

I'm So Tired is great.

acousticrock87 06.29.2006 08:49 PM

I love the emotion in it. It's so simple, but you can feel the lyrics.

I remember hearing about a song that Paul or John sang for an entire week prior to recording, in order to his voice a really raw been-playing-in-clubs-every-night sound. I forgot which one it was, though. I assumed it was something like I'm So Tired, but does anyone know which song that was?

SpectralJulianIsNotDead 06.29.2006 08:53 PM

I think if John sang Yr Blues or if Paul sang Why Don't We Do It In The Road for a week, it would give that effect.

I think the same thing. A tough choice with those 10. Only obladioblada wasn't in the running.

But I've always been a big John fan and those are two of his knockout best.

The Sun Is Up
The Sky Is Blue
It's Beautiful
And So Are You

Dear Prudence, Won't you come out to play...

Breathtakingly simple. Transcends time.

bucklebone 06.30.2006 10:35 AM

from abbey road

I think you are referring to "Oh Darling" from the Abbey Road album. Sung by Paul early one morning or late one night before he could get the sleep out of his voice.

Also, similar technique used when John sang "Twist and Shout". They had been recording for a week and John's voice was spent. They needed one more song for the album and choose the live staple "Twist & Shout". They cut it in one, live take, and the rest is Ferris Buehler history.
