After experiencing the probing shitness of other forums, I have concluded that moderators are indeed lumps of whey protein.

I had replied to a thread that was over 2 weeks old and got a warning about it. Then in a future thread, people discussed their forum infractions, and I mentioned "I had bumped an old thread with a sarcastic message, but the tradeoff was worth it". I then receive a PM from the mod informing me that my post had been edited to not include the words "but the tradeoff was worth it". Uh, really?

Moderated forums usually suck. That's one of the reasons why I like SYG, you can basically wherever you want. And if you post something that's lame, it will fall down to the depths of the board anyway. It's not like we can't have serious discussions just because there's no moderator

chabib has always been nice to me and takes good care of really important stuff, like spammers in the sharing section and people like Blatherskyte (sp?) or the president of earth.

God this place has turned to shit lately. we need chabib to flood it all with bans and the chosen posters to board an ark of immunity which will ride out the storm until all is well again.

At Rate Your Music, they actually do bans for a period of so many days if you're bad. One time I was banned for like a week and didn't even know it until I came back a couple weeks later and people were asking how I liked being banned.

Yeah, I got banned for starting like 6 Velvet Underground threads or something ridiculous like that.

I was on a board where if you wanted to start a thread about a band (and god help you if there was already one!) you had to make the thread title "band name OFFICIAL THREAD". I didn't do it that way, and my thread was closed. Burn on me.

This is the only forum I do because it's loose and the people are generally cool. Some tangents can get pretty wild but eventually the participants come back to ground zero....Other forums tend to be loaded with trolls. Trolls that
come here are weeded out fast and had their asses takin to the wood shed

I don't get why forum mods are so anal about everything on other forums. You're running a forum, not a country so don't get too mad with power buddy..

And actually, forums that are too restrictive just DECREASE discussion and kill off a community. Though on the other hand, most other forums are just 14 year old 4chan wannabes.

I post on a modded board, but the mods generally don't give a fuck unless someone reports a post. There is a secret, unmoderated forum where pretty much anything goes except yesterday when someone posted pictures of bear or tranny penises in 200 different threads. That got him temp banned.

if i was made a mod i would use my powers responsibly. i'd ban charles webster again and again until he stopped trying. i'd maybe do something if there were too many parody threads. I'd keep it civil, people who were being insulting and abusive would be kept in check but not harshly, i wouldn't let my own prejudices get in the way and ban someone if i just didn't like them. but it will never happen.

you'd start quiet, but then you'd become a glutton for power. you'd censor anyone who doesn't agree with your views, you'd ban everyone who doesn't march in lockstep with your thoughts, and after purging your closest followers under suspicion of treason you'd end up posting here all by yourself, answering your own threads.

some boards really need moderation - I'm on a mailing list where they had a cow about my signature (same as here) and the mod actually rewrote my posting and resubmitted it a 2nd time without the signature. Do they go around town ripping off bumper stickers they don't like?
