Future Artists CD Language Recordings 2006 (to be released) Relatively recent interview The new album is not out yet, is it? At least I haven't seen it anywhere, so I guess it'll be within a month, hopefully. |

you ever see that video of them on youtube? They are possibly the worst sounding band ever. Me and my friend laughed at it for hours...

Meanwhile, I feel compelled to share this review: The Sunday Times October 22, 2006 Pop: New release: THE DEAD C Vain, Erudite and Stupid: Selected Works, 1987-2005 Ba Da Bing! BING050 (two discs) Review by: Stewart Lee Albums by The Dead C, in their oblique and obtuse sleeves, first dripped into the UK in the late 1980s. The mysterious New Zealand trio shared Sonic Youth’s grasp of the feminine side of pure noise, but their two-chord drones and unfettered improvisations arrived unadorned by the usual self-justifying occult references or art-school in jokes. And while the works of their inheritors, such as Wolf Eyes and Lightning Bolt, can seem like exercises in anti-music machismo, this retrospective is as unpretentious as pretentious rock gets. In New Zealand, lo-fi recording was once a pragmatic choice, not an affectation. December’s show at All Tomorrow’s Parties in Minehead should seal, or sour, the legend. Three stars http://www.timesonline.co.uk/article...409269,00.html "Pop" indeed! |

...Even better, the band's next record, Future Artists, the FIRST record to be released by the band after their greatest hits retrospective for Ba Da Bing, hence the first entries for their "Greatest Hits Volume Two," appears set for release next Spring... yes, new dead c album of original material!!!! |
Someone needs to make upload a Dead C comp. I've only seen the youtube video of Dead C doing the song "Sky". Only thing I know by them.

Like, dude, you can totally buy the above mentioned career spanning double CD "Vain Erudite, and Stupid" for about $10 US at an of your favorite online retailers. Surely that's not too much to ask? edit: http://www.midheaven.com will give it to you for $9.50 |
I don't buy CDs. Why would I pay for such a horrible media format? I buy LPs only, but only locally because I've got warped ones in the mail before and it is really annoying.
|
don't think it's out on LP so you'll just have to stick to what yr local store offers.. have fun..
|
Like mp3s are better?
They're asking $5 per CD! If you're too cheap to pay for that then tough shit! |
Quote:
Eh, cds aren't that bad. It gets on my tits that people slag them off so much. Face it, they are convenient and they sound decent. Sure LPs are nice but they can sound worse that CDs, they aren't always better and they are a bitch to lug around the place. |
Ah, cool, a thread about The Dead C.
Exactly the excuse I needed to spam the board with some pictures I took at their London gig earlier this month. ![]() ![]() ![]() |
sweet pics, thanks. i picked up vain, erudite and stupid at ATP. It's pretty great, especially disk 2. gonna order some more of their stuff when i get paid.
|
i can't fathom the thought of someone liking really underground/independent music and being picky about formats. "i really like your stuff, but you don't have your stuff in vinyl so i won't buy your tapes and cd-rs, even though that's the only way to listen to your music"
|
so nobody else is excited about the band putting out a new album in 2007?
|
Quote:
i bought it too... i'm really digging it. i now have 3 albums by them and i'm looking for more. got a few more pictures: ![]() ![]() ![]() the london gig was pretty different than the atp one; more introspective and not as amazing as they were at atp, but still great. |
Quote:
Exactly. The only thing I don't really buy is tapes because I don't have a working tape machine but I feel I've missed out on a load of nice stuff even on cassette. Dredd Foole put out a tape of Suicide covers apparently. I want that. |
i'd never really heard them before atp so as you can imagine when i saw them there it was a truly mindblowing revelatory experience.

I generally can't fathom SpectralJulianIsNotDead... but that's just me I guess. |

Their only album I owned before ATP was The White House... and I had heard 1-2 more on mp3s. I was more than amazed as well; they were definitely one of the highlights on ATP. Shame they were playing opposite of Fursaxa though, who was really great too. |
they put out a split 12" this year with an australian group called Hi God People
|
And that split 12" with Konono No1. Wasn't that new stuff?
|
isn't that split with konono no1 from 2005 (or even 2004?) though?
|
Yes, 2005 I think. I just meant that they have been doing new(ish) stuff. If the stuff on that 12" is new.
|
as far as i know the split with hi-god people is new stuff, they were selling it the merch table at their london gig but i don't think it is available to buy in the shops yet

i am! i actually listened to the first half / two thirds of "the damned" - their last album if i'm not mistaken - this morning and thought again that it was excellent... but then i had to go to work... they were indeed magnificent at ATP... i'm repeating myself, but it was perhaps the band i was the most looking forward to see and they certainly did not disappoint me... |
CDs just don't last very long for me. I've had tapes last longer than some CDs.
|
i want to hear more by these folks. i didnt get to see all of them at atp.
|
is there a recording of the atp set? i really wanted to stay but tiredeness just overcame me.
|
i was wondering the same thing, i would love to hear that set again.
i decided not to buy the compilation, thinking it would be better to get all the proper albums i don't have instead (i believe there is no unreleased stuff or extra things on the compilation?), but since those are usually difficult to get, i might end up buying it... |
another interview (no date) which mentions the new album:
http://pbsfm.org.au/Documents.asp?ID=1339&Title=DEAD+C AO: The last Dead C recording I’ve heard was The Damned on Starlight Furniture Recording Company. Have you done any stuff since then, or is that the most recent? BR: We have a new album which we are gonna release ourselves, which will be out in three or four months probably. The album consists of material recorded in the last 18 months. We went to Scotland last year [and] did some sessions in a little studio at the arts centre there, and that material is included in the album, plus some other stuff that’s been recorded subsequently. It sounds pretty good to us, I think it’s a pretty interesting mix of stuff. That album’s called Future Artists. maybe that's in fact the interview that Phlegmoscope initially posted. |

I've also been hoping that a recording of their ATP set exists... I only recorded the London gig myself. So if any one wants to trade that for the ATP one then let me know. I can post the London one here when it's ready if anyone's interested. I haven't even heard it though, so I don't know how it came out. From the CD booklet it doesn't seem that there's any previously unreleased material on the compilation. So if you can trace down all their proper albums then you wouldn't need to buy it. But keep in mind that a lot of their stuff is long out of print and sometimes only released in an edition of a few hundred copies anyway. |
fuck lps.
fuck the dead c |
Their side of the Konono split was a total snoozefest if you ask me.
Not a huge fan, but I do love Harsh 70s Reality. |

You mustn't treat yr CDs with much reverence... not that they deserve any necessarily... |

indeed, and as a result my expectations for seeing them at atp were pretty low. they were a revelation though. |
Upon hearing Tusk quite recently, I have decided that the accolade of best band in the world may actually belong to the Dead C
|
my recording from london is now (and has been for a while) up at dimeadozen. thanks again pjc. it's a bit heavy on the drums, but pretty decent still, if i may say so
http://www.dimeadozen.org/torrents-d....php?id=130355 i'll badongo it in a minute. but more importantly, there's also this EXCELLENT dvd  from their 2002 ATP gig plus a gig in LA the following night put up by museum64: http://www.dimeadozen.org/torrents-d....php?id=130452 go grab it! |
