no offense but, the chorus to incinerate is terrible, i could just see them the first time they played it:

thurston: Incinerate..........Incinerate......(looks around at lee).....incinerate?.......(lee gives him a confused look back "just go with it")............incinerate...

but it's at least catchy.

I like satin better.

I'm not a huge fan of the chorus, but I love the way he sings "I remember you so cold as ice/the flame's are licking at your feet/the sirens come to put me out of misery, yeah" And I love the the lee lead that plays around this time. Its got such a bittersweet kinda sound.

it's a great song. period.

The lyrics don't have to be poetic or ironic or something...I think it's a bold move to sing such simple yet catchy phrases, especially when backed by music that is the essence of pop genius.

...that's not a valid comparison, though--since the Mamas and the Papas were not an experimental or avant garde group who then made brilliant pop music of equal value to their earlier work...and the Mamas and the Papas sounded dated 20 years after their music came out, which is not true of Sonic Youth--SY are still making music that is relevant and that still contains elements of their early sound.

i WAS AT THE cAT And Fiddle Last night on Sunset and they have a juke box that you can download new music from. I played "Incinerate" against the backdrop of people drinking and general bar chaos.
No one started to make out as was my plan but it did make it easier to drink my margarita.

You know whenyou listen to the lyrics they're pretty deep and heavy and I think Thurston wanted to reiterate that line over and over.....
