Well one day you may need to sew on a button |
I am not the biggest fan, but props nonetheless
Oh man. That really really sucks. Salinger is possibly my favourite author ever. At the very least, Franny and Zooey will I think always be tied as my favourite book ever. Here's hoping whatever he's been writing in the last 40 years will now surface....
i HATE "catcher in the rye" (had to read that shit three times in high school), but some of his short stories are pretty good.
RIP. |
Quote:
I seriously suggest you read Franny and Zooey if you haven't already, because it's a very different, much more mature book, closer to the style of his short stuff. I ADORE it |
Quote:
Did you hate the book or just hate Holden? I thought it was written beautifully, and I can see why people don't like Holden. |
I thought it was a pretty good book. I think I am going to have to pull it out and read it.
To relate to Samuel's question,
I found that I hated Holden for some parts of me that I hate. Especially since he was a teenager, and yet there are still some aspects of that mentality that I carry that I wish I didnt, in my 20s. But for that reason, I respect the book. With many novels, you lend yourself out to relate to a character, instead of them poking and jabbing from the inside out while you read. |

i just don't get the appeal of catcher in the rye. i read it at ages 14, 16, and 17, and each time it came across as "BAWWWWWWWWW PHONYPHONYPHONY GODDAMNIT PHONY BAWWWW WHINE!" as far as "coming-of-age" novels go, i'll take ham on rye over that piece of shit any day of the week. |
he drank his own piss haha.
wonder what yoko thinks?
it's all over the cover of today's papers.
well apart from The Sport, which chose to lead with 'Soap Star Sue's Sex Vid Secret'. |
Quote:
It's a very sad day for the world indeed. Poor Sue won't be able to show her face in public again. I can't imagine they'll keep her on after that scandal. |
It's Suzanne Shaw from HearSay who's now in Emmerdale, apparently.
Rip JD. but truthfully I'm more interested in what's happening with Sue. Any pointers to articles about her troubles?
It's on the cover of the Daily Star but they aren't linking it as a story to ensure people buy the paper - which of course they won't.
Yeah RIP. What did they write about her antics on the video?
It's an old vid from when she was in hearsay, taken in a nightclub toilet. class.
She was the one who wasn't Myleene, right? Myleene does funny things to my Johnson.
Although Myleene is objectively far sexier, there's something brilliantly filthy about Shaw. She makes me think of women who start arguments with supermarket cashiers.
Did you read that story about Blake Fielder-Civil(best name ever) and the sex-swap guy? The txt he sent her reads like this:'' I don't care if the
Whole world knows I kissed you, I ain't ashamed at all but you have to leave me alone now'' She's a dead ringer for Amy too. |
Winehouse is one of those that every time I see I her I think about taking my balls to the opticians.
Yeah, that was quality. She looks like a cross between Amy Winehouse and Lol Tolhurst from the Cure.
Quote:
Even at her worst, I'd still like to go bareback with Winehouse. |
I've seen better pictures of transsexual Mia, and she is really pretty looking. Amy has more style, yet that Blake has good taste in trans.
Yeah, Mia is definitely in a different league. First time I saw a photo of her I just thought she was a regular glamour model or something. She's a 'mistake' I can imagine many straight blokes being prepared to make.
I always imagine straight blokes going for trans. Unless the trans fancy girls, which is what I've found to be a common occurance. Definitely not gay men, or very seldom.
Quote:
Trans girls, Pros: More likely to want the bumsex. Looks like a girl, may understand football. Can sympathise with farting in bed Likely to take good care of downstairs. Cons: Often look like a car crash in a crab factory. I used to work with a post-op transexual. Gorgeous, she was. But also mental. |
to get back to the actual topic. I dont really think that Holden does "come of age" in the book. And that's sort of the point. Isn't it?
Boo! Boo to OT post. BOO.
What is he going on about?
I hated Holden caufield and still do. I saw the book as a tale about an extremely self-absorbed, loser fuck, with no redeeming qualitites, and endless self-pity. It made me sick. so fucking stupid. I was mad I read it the asshole was so pathetic.
Getting back to the point, Transexuals work far better than transvestites seem to because transexuals tend to emulate themselves on a very heterosexual female ideal while transvestites (albeit largely for practical reasons) tend go for something more akin to Mary Whitehouse (who isn't).

TV seems more to be about wearing clothes nominally designated for women rather than emulating femininity. It's obviously a complex matter. But of the two, I've met more TS women that I've had a little think about than I have TVs. |
Sorry, mates, but they released Salinger's unpublished work and evidently the sequal to Catcher in the Rye has Holden getting a trans operation.
You are on topic with the thread. |
Ohh, THAT's why he was so pissed off!
