ORG Vinyl Reissues coming in winter 2010
|
YES!
i'm definitely going to get CIS and BMR, but i think i'm going to wait to buy EVOL second-hand. i hate the fact that the reissue is going to tack on "bubblegum." i found sister used for $30 two weeks ago also. |
what's with the daydream live dvd ?
|
How much does Kill Your Idols go for on vinyl?

I like that Bubblegum song. Mike Watt's bass kicks ass! I'm gonna buy Confusion is Sex. I already have Bad Moon Rising and Evol on vinyl, but maybe I'll buy them too. |

Anywhere between £10-£40. |
bad moon rising vinyl. get into my life. now.
|
Cool but I don´t like the extras on vinyl, it ruines the distribution of songs in bad moon rising... or the end of expreway in evol...
|
I think I'll get them all.
|
Yeah, don't like that they tacked the bonus tracks on. . . though I still need all those on vinyl. I'll probably get CIS and try to score old copies of the others off Ebay sometime.
|
i'm still skeptical that these actually have all those 'bonus' tracks -- if so, the sound quality will likely not compare w/ the original pressings (or reissues), particularly on 'bad moon' where they'd be cramming an hour of music onto one LP.
i have all of these albums on vinyl and they sound WONDERFUL, easily superior to any CD copies i've heard... it's cool that they'll be readily available for people to hear but not so much if there's a considerable quality loss (ignoring the fact that the side breaks are no longer 'true' to the originals). if the bonus tracks ARE on there, at least it will be the first time this version of 'master-dik' and 'echo canyon' are available on vinyl. here's the original thread: http://216.70.73.169/gossip/showthread.php?t=30827 some good points made there... |
The only SY I do not have on vinyl is Confusion/
gonna get it and scare the fuck out of my lady |
Quote:
Yeah, it's their scariest all right. |
I've got multiple copies of all of 'em already so won't be in a hurry to pick up more, but wouldn't be surprised if I end up cracking if they're as nice as they make out...
|
I'd like all of them on vinyl, so as long as they doesn't contain those fucking bonus songs I might very well buy some of them.

i want the colour vinyls |
The ORG web site is incorrect. There are no bonus tracks on the SY ORG lps.
|
I agree with several of you above: If these four LPs materialise as planned, it could be a major waste of effort and 180-g virgin vinyl. This may be nice for the younger Gen-Zed/Millenial crowd who have gotten into Sonic Youth and vinyl, but it will have limited appeal for us Gen-X and -Y folk who got into SY 15 to (almost) 30 years ago, and probably already have original pressings or early reissues of these albums.
Confusion Is Sex sounds like it will be the best of the bunch, holding truest to the original. EVOL could turn out okay with 'Bubblegum' tacked on if they provide 'Expressway To Your Skull' with the locked groove like on the original; otherwise, it will be nothing more than the cassette version pressed to vinyl. Also, they might have tried tacking 'Bubblegum' on at some other point in the listings; personally, I think it could work much better coming at the end of Side One. Sister and Bad Moon Rising, however, sound like they're shaping up to be major fiascoes. Frankly, I don't think the alternative mix of 'Master Dik' even worked as a bonus track on the original Sister CD, and if they felt compelled to resurrect it at this stage in the game, it would have been much better suited to the recent Master Dik CD reissue. Not only is it going to be a black sheep on this reissue, it's also going to throw the track listings out of kilter. ('Tuff Gnarl' not opening Side Two sounds somewhat akin to sacrilege!) And track listings thrown out of kilter will be even more detrimental to Bad Moon, with 'I'm Insane' and 'Justice Is Might' being split/faded. It's really going to sound like a different album. If they were going to reissue these albums on vinyl, they should have at least reissued Confusion Is Sex and Bad Moon Rising as double LPs to do them proper justice ('justice' being might, remember). They could have pressed the four tracks from Kill Yr. Idols and the two tracks from (Over)kill Yr. Idols, along with a few other live recordings from that era, on a bonus LP. They could have even used the artwork from Kill Yr. Idols for a high-quality card-stock inner sleeve. As for Bad Moon, a bonus LP should have had track listings similar to the following: Side Three: Flower Halloween (original mix) Satan Is Boring Echo Canyon Rewolf Side Four: Brave Men Run ('84 original) Death Valley '69 ('84 original) Satan Is Boring (extended live version) Now, reissues like those would get us all out to the record stores with stuffed wallets again, don't you think? |
fuuuuuuuuck I don't want bubblegum on that shit. FUCK. EVOL though is a musthave.
|
perhaps next time moshe should type even bigger and oranger.

I agree. |
If these folks can't even get such an elementary thing as the tracklistings of the albums they're going to release right, it makes me wonder how high quality the finished product is really going to be. To my mind, it has an air of shoddiness about it.
|
i agree, that's a pretty amateur mistake to make. but the truth will be in the sound. :)
|
Quote:
But it's quite common mistake. I've seen it before. For example, Beastie Boys vinyl reissues don't have any bonus tracks. Bonuses are only on cd versions. |
but to go to the trouble of announcing the releases on your website and then just take the CD tracklist and split it in half as if declaring it the LP sequencing? amateur.
|
Quote:
Yeah, that's true. |
it's not that/or wasn't hard to get the blast first reissues. i used to see them all the time at amoeba, well in SF at least... still cool seeing peeps put out records that belong on vinyl.
|
Quote:
Thank GOD. Then I will be buying confusion is sex, at least |
Now that the tracklists are right, I'm HELLA BUYING ALL OF THESE! (subject to glowing reviews regarding their supreme audio quality)
|
damn, moshe has become the official sonic youth news agency---
all i want is xpressway witht he infinite groove. <3 <3 <3 ok, no, BMR too. |
Quote:
Yes!!! Have they said anything about that? I hope it has it. I think I'm gonna buy at least EVOL and Confusion Is Sex. |
So has anyone gotten any of these? How do they sound?
|
Are they even out yet?
|
Don't think so. The pink EVOL & white Confusion are slated for Record Store Day in a couple of weeks (in the US at least - still no word if they're coming to this side of the pond).
|
Record Store Day? Hope they sell 'em the regular way through any boring web shop to ship all of them to me in Germany.
|
The coloured ones might be RSD exclusives, but the standard black copies will no doubt be everywhere.
|
The same shoddy treatment was given New Orders remastering project about a year ago.
|
Rhino did those New Order reissues. ORG are doing these and the Nirvana vinyl remasters they did were amazing, so I trust these will be just as good.
|
Bump.
New here obviously. Was wondering if anyone here knows anything about the status of the Bad Moon Rising/Sister vinyl reissues. ORG's website still says 'winter 2010' and I can't find much info anywhere else. Would be great if they did these soon. Evol and Confusion represses are both fantastic sounding. |
