MST3K

Funny show.

I just got Collection Vol. 8 and The Essentials DVD, so I figured I would start a thread about how great this show is.

youthoftomorrow 07.10.2006 02:01 PM

there are some pretty funny shorts on YouTube.

EDIT: here you go.

MST is great. You gotta watch the Girl in Lovers Lane and A Touch of Evil. Those are both really funny episodes.

youthoftomorrow 07.10.2006 02:05 PM

my favorite episode is Cave Dwellers.

SpectralJulianIsNotDead 07.10.2006 02:08 PM

Mrs. Gumby is stacked!

You use one of those older Phillip's analog chips in your robot, you're gonna get this!

contort:myself 07.10.2006 02:41 PM

mst is great. I was obsessed over it as a young nerdling. There's a torrent site with all the episodes up, myspleen, which has recently renewed that obsession. THe riffs on this show ended up introducing me to Lou Reed, Zappa, William Burroughs, Charles Bukowski, Monty Python, all kinds of awesome shit.

nomadicfollower 07.10.2006 02:42 PM

I love the show as well and plan to get the Essentials disc soon.

nomadicfollower 07.10.2006 02:46 PM

I haven't watched it yet, but I believe this is an entire show.

Classic show, but I hated the show towards the end. Too many changes to the cast. And Mike never was quite as good as Joel, who actually was the creator of the show. And once they started doing that whole "Planet of The Apes" thing and the new scientist Pearl, it just sucked. The movie was crap too. But the first seasons were gold.

I love the short Mr. B Natural and Manos: the Hands of Fate is easily one of my favorite episodes. I have a bunch of episodes on my computer that i still need to watch. Great show.

For real.....they should show reruns on Comedy Central again. I still have about 10 hours worth of episodes from when they used to show it all day on Thanksgiving.

SpectralJulianIsNotDead 07.11.2006 01:07 PM

I know a kid who started a petition to get Mind of Mencia taken off the air because he'd prefer to watch reruns of better shows.

Do they honestly need to have the Daily Show and Colbert Report on 4-5 times a day? Why don't they fit an episode or 2 of kids in the hall in there, or maybe the Ben Stiller show?

Cartoon Network has honestly ended up kicking Comedy Central's ass as far as adult comedic programming. Adult Swim has 2 1/2 hours a night to pack comedy in (the other hour is anime) and they manage to have more worthwhile programming in those 2 1/2 hours each night than Comedy Central has in a day.

Comedy Central also needs to cancel Mad TV. Nobody likes it. It is utter shit.

You know who else sucks at programming? BBC America. Awful. They don't have a consistent programming schedule, so you never know when to turn it on for the shows you like, and they stopped showing the good syndicated comedies in favor of showing lame ass comedies. Fuck em.

nomadicfollower 07.11.2006 01:42 PM

I agree. Comedy Central is going to shit.
The Daily Show is good, the Colbert Report is pushing it, and that new fake news show Dog Bites Man, I believe, has pushed it too far. Mad TV is shit and should be booted. And that show with David Spade, ugh.

Never seen the Ben Stiller show, though...sketchs?

SpectralJulianIsNotDead 07.11.2006 02:06 PM

yeah, it was great. He did a Cape Fear spoof called Cape Munster. Where Eddie Munster terrorizes a family.

Strange, I felt the quality of the show has always been pretty consistent. Though I did always like that invention exchange and miss it in the Mike episodes.

But I really don't think too much of that first season. Murphy's not doing Servo, and it just feels like they hadn't found their stride yet. Plus, they watch some really rough movies that first year. Robot Vs. the Aztec Mummy? Whew...

Probably one of the most genius shows ever made though. Damn shame it's not still on the air.

Dr. Eugene Felikson 04.23.2010 03:18 PM

I grew up with this show, and I'm sure it warped my tastes in some sense. I've always meant to get around to owning these on DVD...but it's just too damn pricey for my budget.

SuperCreep 04.23.2010 07:31 PM

watch out for snakes.

Pax Americana 04.23.2010 07:54 PM

Maybe my favorite show ever. The DVD collections are so damn expensive!
Screaming Skull, Soul Taker, Manos, Hobgoblins...

So many great episodes of that show, but I think The Final Sacrifice might be my all time fav. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FrJkn...eature=related

atsonicpark 07.15.2011 10:17 AM

I have every episode of this show on DVD (many, many, many DVD's mind you). Besides the 3 or 4 lost public access episodes, obviously.

ANYWAY, yeah, best show ever.

"Go head on."

Any episode with Joe Don Baker, Soultaker, Manos, Pod People, Time Chasers, OVERDRAWN AT THE MEMORY BANK, etc etc etc.

MST has always been a really interesting show in how surprisingly intellectual it was. Not in any real technical sort of way, but in how delightfully esoteric it could be. There are lots of references to people on the show who I don't know. And sometimes it's pretty interesting when you hear a joke for years, don't really get it, and then finally get it after the proper exposure.

My light example being in Invasion of the Neptune Men. There are those two jokes in there 'he must be the Piggy of the group' and 'Kill the pig drink his blood!' both of which I didn't really get at the time. And then a few years back I read Lord of the Flies, and then the next time I saw that episode, it clicked 'ooooooooooh', I thought. That's pretty neat.

But that's always been interesting to me how long it was able to be on the air considering all it had going against (two hour time slots, esoteric riffing). Beautiful show.

Oh and,

McCloud?

Pelle 07.16.2011 05:56 AM

Ah, Lovely show! Been quite a while since last.

I love the introsong...its so good, it might just be an outtake from evol
