Post a picture of your food

I have this strange habit of taking photos of things I cook now, or even when I eat out sometimes. I'd like to see what other people eat. Whenever I am go to a buffet place, I also like to observe what people eat. Show me what you cook/eat. (it has to be real).

YOU WIN

ploesj 09.27.2010 03:51 PM

hahaha!

i used to be scared of cooking, but now i like it.

Keeping It Simple 09.27.2010 03:54 PM

Why don't you eat food that will make you feel less miserable? Those dishes just depress me. I had gammon steak, boiled potatoes and baked beans tonight. I bet you wished you had something like this instead.

knox 09.27.2010 03:55 PM

but now my food looks sad because i only have a phone cam.

that quiche certainly looks amazing - is it difficult to make?

knox 09.27.2010 03:57 PM

this was last night and it was really good just a simple steak with mushrooms and onion

and i had this in a restaurant the other day

YOU CAN TELL
I like steak and potato a lot.

ploesj 09.27.2010 03:58 PM

what i posted are not dishes on their own, just parts of things i made...

i usually have a very varied plate, with lots of different flavors on them. tonight i had quinoa with a fresh tomato sauce and a nice salad. yesterday we made veggie moussaka here (with lentils and chickpeas instead of meat)

the smell of meat or fish doesn't make me want to eat it. i never liked eating it, which resulted in endless fights at te dinner table. so i stopped eating meat about twelve years ago. i don't miss it. i also dislike eating fries too often. way too greasy.

and for the record, i don't feel miserable. where did you get that idea?

knox 09.27.2010 04:02 PM

don't you make oven chips ploesj? my stomach can't take the grease either and that's how i deal with it. of course they're usually a bit dry but.

it's easy, one of my quickest recipes!

i use store bought puff pastry, it's good enough since it's a difficult dough to get right...

you need spinach (frozen is fine, it has to be in small pieces anyway), an onion, ricotta and parmesan cheese, salt and pepper to taste, an egg or two

heat the onions in a pan until they are glassy, then add the spinach (to thaw and heat it, or just to cook it if you use the fresh stuff)

while this is going, mix the ricotta cheese with the eggs in a bowl, add salt and pepper and anything you want to add (nutmeg gives a nice touch)

when the spinach is done, snip it in small pieces first (if it's fresh) or just pour it in the cheese mix and stir it in.

add some freshly grated parmesan and whatever you want to toss in there

fill a pie mold with the puff pastry, pour cheese mix in, put in oven, done!

we have the worst oven ever (it's old and slow and small and doesn't heat up that well) and we are a family of eight... imagine how long it would take to make chips for all of us. i have made oven baked potatoes a few times and i can only do it for four people at the time, since a larger quantity is just too much.

one butternut pumpkin
one sweet potato
one potato
one red onion
one carrot
1/4 cup butter
2 chicken stock cubes
4 cups water
boil 45 minutes
depending on how finely you cut up the vegetables you may need to use a handheld blender at the end

knox 09.28.2010 02:25 PM

this might just turn into my dream recipe thread.

Keeping It Simple 09.28.2010 04:27 PM

Here's a recipe for knox.

Baked Beans on Toast.

Tin of baked beans.
Knob of butter.
2 slices of bread.

Empty the tin of baked beans into a saucepan and heat for 4 minutes on a medium heat, giving them the occasional stir with a spoon.

Place the two slices of bread into a toaster on a medium setting.

When the two slices pops out of the toaster place them on a plate and spread the knob of butter thinly on both slices.

Pour the heated baked beans on both slices.

Voila! Baked beans on toast.

ploesj 09.29.2010 12:44 PM

i just made some pot pies... and forgot to take pictures. they were pretty delicious though, filled with carrots, broccoli, mushrooms, peas, zucchini, peppers and tomato...

Italian Gravy

1 1/2lb hot sausage
4 cans of crushed tomatoes (12 oz)
1 can tomato paste ( 4.5 oz)
1/2 onion
3 cloves of garlic

coat sauce pan with olive oil, cut sausage into desired size then fry sausage for 15 minutes or so at 7 out of 10 to get the juice out, push sausage to the side for a minute throw finely chopped onion and garlic into the oil and heat for 2 minutes or so to get the flavor out of it. Add the cans of crushed tomatoes rinse cans out with one full can of water add the water to the sauce then add tomato paste, add three bay leaves, salt, pepper, oregeno, basil and parsley leaves to flavor basically about a pinch of each. Bring to a boil for 5 minutes or so then turn down to simmer for a 3 or 4 hours. Bring back up to a boil when ready to serve.

For meatballs at least 2 lbs of hamburg add bread that you've wet through with water and wrung the water out a couple of eggs, some garlic, onions, parsley, salt and pepper to flavor. You can fry them you can bake them. Whichever you choose to do do not over fry or bake as you'll be adding them to the sauce and if you pre-cook them to much they'll dry out.
