wonderful

reena rules. INCINERATE rules, take your sonic youth when you can get it and stop complaining ahead of time damnit! You are lucky just to see sonic youth on TV! They sell less than 100,000 records an album and I personally give thanks to the gods of rock that sonic youth appear on TV at all. they could play bubblegum over and over again and I would still tune in!
|
ahah
Guess you're right, i'd still watch even if they did play incinerate over |
hee hee, that being said, I would love to hear RATS. i want to see a LEE song damnit! I ahve never ever seen them on television playing a lee song.
|
maybe they don't want to? or lee's shy on tv.
Rats is good. |

I really dont care what they play. After seeing them live twice this summer, watching them on TV just doesnt do it for me. I may watch if I have nothing else to do.

No way. Lee may be sort of the quiet one along with Steve, but he deserves his time in the spotlight as much as Thurston and Kim. Why should they get all the tv songs? I don't think it's very fair. Lee puts out incredibly brilliant music with SY and he's the most consistant songrwiter, and yet he plays third fiddle to Kim and Thurston. Not cool. |
Yeah, i love Lee :) not saying he's bad or anything.

I don't feel he plays 3rd cello to Kim Thurston or Steve. Lee's always playing guitar. I don't feel it some kind of dishonor for him not to be singing as much as Kim or T. The dynamic of Sonic Youth has been the way it is from the inception. |
I think lizzarddd meant that maybe they, including Lee, don't want to. I hardly think Lee is being disrespected. He's remained with the band for 25 years; he's obviously fine with it. His songs are much scarcer, so a TV performance of one will be scarce. He never writes the "singles" either, if you can call them that. It really seems that Lee likes it this way.

If it's not Incinerate, I have a gut feeling it will be Rapture. I don't know why...
|
I'd love to see Rats or Reena even.
We need someone to either bump this thread or create a new one the day of. I always seem to forget. |
just in connection with lee.
one of the greatist musicians and artists theese days. seriously! |
Can't wait I wonder what song they will do for the show.

I like you! You and I are cool. Lee is the man! |
Rats is too long a song to be played on TV (in a popular show at least). Look how they ruin incinerate on other tv shows : they don't play the intro, no repeats at all so that it all goes down under 4 minutes. The only other song they could play is Reena, which they seem to be struggling with live ( there's a weird key change whenever they play it live that's not on the record version that sounds awful cf. NPR show...)
|
they could do "jams run free".
|
they should do "jams run free".

Hell Yeah! Best fucking song on the album. |
bring on The Diamond Sea, full version

Yeah I know, but it's not as catchy as Incinerate for your average guy, so it can never be on TV even if the song lasts less than 5 minutes. |
I think Kim and Thurston did get most credit back in the day because they have been the face of the band in a lot of videos but after watching a live show and hearing Lee on vocals, you know how important he is to the band so its only an issue that effects those that listen to Sonic Youth as a fad or only as part of mass entertainment.
