I had my reservations when I heard we were getting a new board but, man, I couldn't be happier. Chabib certainly came through. Viva la, uh, new board!?

the servers have been fucked up because of the change in DNS pointers. ISP's cache DNS's and the addresses they resolve to. when a pointer changes, the caches need to be flushed before things update. this was the first time i could get on all day. now i need to fix some shit.

Im glad it finnaly got killed off. I loved that board but it was depressing watching it this last week.

So that's why I couldn't get to this site earlier today. I was getting frustrated.

Wow. I couldn't get on all last night. Once I got the board, but not loaded right and I couldn't do anything with it. I'm at work now and I've got on. Hurrah.

(I've stayed logged in all night, obviously).

Now I'm all confused, when I was at home, the link to the old board worked for the new one. Now that I'm at work, the new link works, and not the old one.

And it looks like this board is alive again!

you know how you explain the IP number in another post? well how do you translate names (sonicyouth.com) to IP addresses-- it's done by DNS servers (domain name servers) basically they work like phonebooks.

anyway, as address changes migrate from server to server (kinda like by word of mouth if you will) you get the case that the DNS server that serves your home line is updated, and the one that serves your work connection is still stuck in the past. give it a couple of days at the most and both should point to the correct address.

in retrospect the old board kinda died late 04, early 05 with the first departures of the oldest members and the end of the nurse tour, and many from the old board didn't come over at all or stopped posting here after awhile

the deathnail seemed to be when the median age of most frequent posters dropped to those underage
