Obvious choice would be Joy Division. Today my polish workmate told me where they got their name which I never knew and it's quite possibly more depressing than the music if that were possible.
Or the smiths... Don't listen too long or you'll want to jump out the closest window, I know I do...COS IT'S SHIIIITE |

Most of the Joy Division material. Also New Order first album Movement is very depressive. I like it a lot although many thinks it is their worst album.
King Crimson: Almost all the seventies albums. Of course there are kind of positive songs also, but if you´re feeling low, then the good medicine in it are KC songs Epitaph, the Wake of Poseidon, Lizard and Starless for example. Pink Floyd: Atom Heart Mother. Specially the title track is very depressive, but also in a healing way. There is also very good shorter live version in youtube. Animals is also quite depressive album. Hawkwind: Warrior on the edge of time and Hall Of the mountain Grill -albums. There are also some positive moments, but they are mostly depressive in a good way. The Cure: Seventeen Seconds, Faith and Pornography-albums. All very depressive, in Pornography the feelings come near sadomasocism. I don´t know are these albums good to you if you´re thinking suicide, but maybe they are. I like them a lot also. Wigwam: Being and dark album. Both are quite dark, but just great! I think most of my albums are at least melancholius, I´m not a kind of "smile in a positive way" -type in my music taste. |
Blonde Redhead - For the Damaged
and some Shizuka. |

![]() Fall Of Efrafa. Depressive and beautiful! |
Nick Drake - Five leaves left / Pink moon
Bonnie 'Prince' Billy - I see a darkness Françoise Hardy - La question Hood - Cold house Leonard Cohen - Songs of love and hate Massive Attack - Mezzanine Neil Young - Tonight's the night / Sleeps with angels Perry Blake - S/T Portishead - S/T Scott Walker - Scott 3 |
I could also 'recommend' the swedish BM-band Shining.
That's some dark suicidal stuff. |

la foret may be sad but it doesn't hold my attention and comes off as a bit contrived rather than inspired, also one of my least favorites. Knife Play makes me cry. Hives Hives and Suha are sure to bring a tear to my eye every play. |
Hipsters like xiu xiu fake their own depression, really. They're only having a laugh at the expenses of people who are really depressed.
