Johnny Marr is now a member of Modest Mouse
at least for the next album and tour.
www.nme.com/news/johnny-marr/23826 This should be interesting....... |
I hate modest mouse now. They got rich really fast, played a few shows then did nothing for awhile. And Issac Brock just got fatter. And now they've been cancelling all their recent dates. They're not the same band at all.
|
i still like modest mouse, but isaac... get a life dude. but that will most definately be weird.
|
That's weird... really weird. I'm interested to see what kind of contributions Marr brings to the table as far as their new album is concerned though.
|
i just can't picture marr with mm. hes so jangly.
|
what a pity he sank this low.
|
You can look at this in one of two ways:
1. Final proof that there is no god 2. Irrefutable evidence that if there is a god, he hates us all. |
Modest Mouse has always been really weak sounding live, so maybe this will beef them up.
Maybe. |
I want to cry. That's horrible.
|
"Marr has also signed up to go on tour with the band in support of their second LP."
It'd be one thing if they just chose to ignore their non-Epic releases, but how does one do so little fact checking that he or she doesn't find out about The Moon and Antarctica? I mean, it was even re-released two years ago. Good job NME. |

But seriously, this is insane. |

Just wait to hear it before you all discard it.
Already, though, I can tell this album is going to get the same reviews as Rather Ripped has on this board. |
Damn you Mark Ibold!! What?

Really? I think their last album was great. A very unqiue piece. I have liked everything they have did to date.
|
yeah, i liked good news a lot too, i liked the songwriting and the cabaret feeling to it all. i can see people not liking it because most of brock's whammy bar guitar riffs were gone, but was seriously a good album.
from his post smiths projects, i guess johnny marr is now desperate for anythging, you know he is pissed at morrisey for gaining so much good press and record sales recently, so he might think that by joining the mouse he'll get more attention without caving to a forced smiths reunion which is not gonna happen anyway. or probably he needs money, knowing that the next modest mouse is going to sell like crazy. i'm eager to listen to their collaboration, part of which comes from expecting his genius guitar playing to fit a very different kind of band. being second bananas to a younger band is definitely weird and somehow wrong; but, then again, pat smear did join both nirvana and foo fighters, so weirder things have happened before. what did youi expect from nme? they are the eNeMEe of rock n' roll and know shit about music. i hate british music tabloids. |
i honestly think it will be good. or at least half-decent. Marr has done no wrong, and nor has MM. quality albums all around, i can only see it remaining so with a "collaboration."
|
I hope MM gets more edgy again maybe they will revert back now that they have had a big album
|
johnny marr is boring
|
Modest Mouse is fantastic. I didn't like Good News that much but the prior albums were all ace.

Not really. Their last few albums were shite. They used to be really good, but i'm talking Fruit that Ate Itself, or that era. I think they ran out of musical ideas b/c they were never the most skilled players, especially the lead songwriter. Johnny Marr could help. |
Modest Mouse need Jonny Marr
|
i read something a week or so ago that he was a touring member with mm
|
No no.Johnny Marr is uncapable of any good playing these days. And Modest Mouse are naff rubbish beyond redemption.

I was never a big Smiths fan or a Modest Mouse fan. So it doesn't bother me.

Now you die........... Seriously though, what happened to the Healers? |
Johnny Marr was excellent, is excellent. MM needs to shake things up a little bit. lets face it, they had a few ideas, a few strong records to show for it, and now it's gotta go somewhere. MArr can spice up Brock's simple ideas, give them some much needed harmonic color..somethin. That's been his bag for his career with the Smiths , P. McCartney, and the Pretenders.
|
When was Johnny Marr in the Pretenders?
|
Next we'll see Morrissey singing for Napalm Death
|
And Oasis collaborating with guitarists from Mayhem to give it a bit more edge.
