Johnny Marr is now a member of Modest Mouse

at least for the next album and tour.

www.nme.com/news/johnny-marr/23826

This should be interesting.......

drrrtyboots 08.04.2006 01:41 PM

I hate modest mouse now. They got rich really fast, played a few shows then did nothing for awhile. And Issac Brock just got fatter. And now they've been cancelling all their recent dates. They're not the same band at all.

k-krack 08.04.2006 01:44 PM

i still like modest mouse, but isaac... get a life dude. but that will most definately be weird.

Pax Americana 08.04.2006 02:01 PM

That's weird... really weird. I'm interested to see what kind of contributions Marr brings to the table as far as their new album is concerned though.

k-krack 08.04.2006 02:03 PM

i just can't picture marr with mm. hes so jangly.

porkmarras 08.04.2006 02:18 PM

what a pity he sank this low.

Savage Clone 08.04.2006 02:53 PM

You can look at this in one of two ways:

1. Final proof that there is no god
2. Irrefutable evidence that if there is a god, he hates us all.

foldback 08.04.2006 02:55 PM

Modest Mouse has always been really weak sounding live, so maybe this will beef them up.

Maybe.

Cantankerous 08.04.2006 03:57 PM

I want to cry. That's horrible.

Dan 08.04.2006 05:26 PM

"Marr has also signed up to go on tour with the band in support of their second LP."

It'd be one thing if they just chose to ignore their non-Epic releases, but how does one do so little fact checking that he or she doesn't find out about The Moon and Antarctica? I mean, it was even re-released two years ago. Good job NME.

Ha ha.

But seriously, this is insane.

I want to, but I am incapable of crying. So there.

Norma J 08.04.2006 10:55 PM

Just wait to hear it before you all discard it.

Already, though, I can tell this album is going to get the same reviews as Rather Ripped has on this board.

drrrtyboots 08.04.2006 10:56 PM

Damn you Mark Ibold!! What?

I'm not jumping to discard it (even though their last record was pretty weak to me) it's just crazy that Johnny Marr is playing with them.....pretty random. That's the shocker. Issac can kiss my ass though for not playing any club shows in DC/Baltimore since the Float On takeover. Oh well, the crowd would prob. suck nowadays anyway. I cared up until Antartica.....now it's just whatever.

Norma J 08.04.2006 11:25 PM

Really? I think their last album was great. A very unqiue piece. I have liked everything they have did to date.

Everyneurotic 08.04.2006 11:39 PM

yeah, i liked good news a lot too, i liked the songwriting and the cabaret feeling to it all. i can see people not liking it because most of brock's whammy bar guitar riffs were gone, but was seriously a good album.

from his post smiths projects, i guess johnny marr is now desperate for anythging, you know he is pissed at morrisey for gaining so much good press and record sales recently, so he might think that by joining the mouse he'll get more attention without caving to a forced smiths reunion which is not gonna happen anyway. or probably he needs money, knowing that the next modest mouse is going to sell like crazy.

i'm eager to listen to their collaboration, part of which comes from expecting his genius guitar playing to fit a very different kind of band. being second bananas to a younger band is definitely weird and somehow wrong; but, then again, pat smear did join both nirvana and foo fighters, so weirder things have happened before.

what did youi expect from nme? they are the eNeMEe of rock n' roll and know shit about music. i hate british music tabloids.

k-krack 08.04.2006 11:42 PM

i honestly think it will be good. or at least half-decent. Marr has done no wrong, and nor has MM. quality albums all around, i can only see it remaining so with a "collaboration."

sellouteater 09.22.2006 07:55 PM

I hope MM gets more edgy again maybe they will revert back now that they have had a big album

Daycare Nation 09.22.2006 08:20 PM

johnny marr is boring

HaydenAsche 09.22.2006 11:42 PM

Modest Mouse is fantastic. I didn't like Good News that much but the prior albums were all ace.

Not really. Their last few albums were shite. They used to be really good, but i'm talking Fruit that Ate Itself, or that era. I think they ran out of musical ideas b/c they were never the most skilled players, especially the lead songwriter. Johnny Marr could help.

fishmonkey 09.23.2006 11:28 AM

Modest Mouse need Jonny Marr

atari 2600 09.23.2006 11:29 AM

i read something a week or so ago that he was a touring member with mm

porkmarras 09.23.2006 11:31 AM

No no.Johnny Marr is uncapable of any good playing these days. And Modest Mouse are naff rubbish beyond redemption.

Not quite as brilliant as your 12RODS diss, but quite good. B+

kingcoffee 09.23.2006 03:35 PM

I was never a big Smiths fan or a Modest Mouse fan. So it doesn't bother me.

Seriously though, what happened to the Healers?

ricechex 09.23.2006 06:52 PM

Johnny Marr was excellent, is excellent. MM needs to shake things up a little bit. lets face it, they had a few ideas, a few strong records to show for it, and now it's gotta go somewhere. MArr can spice up Brock's simple ideas, give them some much needed harmonic color..somethin. That's been his bag for his career with the Smiths , P. McCartney, and the Pretenders.

GeneticKiss 09.23.2006 08:16 PM

When was Johnny Marr in the Pretenders?

jimbrim 09.24.2006 06:28 AM

Next we'll see Morrissey singing for Napalm Death

_slavo_ 09.24.2006 07:35 AM

And Oasis collaborating with guitarists from Mayhem to give it a bit more edge.
