Tim Buckley Appreciation Thread

a voice like velvet sex, mad guitar skills. i've been listening to tim a lot lately, the early folky stuff and his funky rock stuff is awesome, too. anyone else?

I likes Tim Buckley. An amazing talent, though some of his more "produced" stuff appeals less to me personally.

Jeff Buckley I cannot stand. Not even for one second.

Buckley's "Once I Was" is played during the concluding scene of the movie "Coming Home" and its one of the most emotional statements ever put to film.

The period from Goodbye & Hello to Starsailor is awesome. I don't like his funk period as much.

He was a great performer live (Dream Letter live in London and the Peel Sessions are magnificent), and it's a pity he's very often underrated as a songwriter while he was so talented.

Bump

Torn Curtain 04.05.2006 02:18 PM

There aren't many Tim Buckley fans here apparently :(

sonikold 04.05.2006 05:08 PM

that's too bad. they're missing out.

Torn Curtain 04.09.2006 05:28 PM

I bump this thread because I'm listening to Live at the Troubadour right now, Lee Underwood is such a brilliant guitarist (a French magazine said he was Tom Verlaine's favorite guitar player, I don't know if it's true), it's too bad he's not known more.

Lee Underwood is on the left.

Many cool Tim Buckley pics here: http://www.mojopin.org/gallery/tim_b...im_buckley.php

Lee Underwood on the Starsailor Yahoo group:

Quote:

Rick Fuller, a film producer out of Minneapolis, is working together with Evan Cohan of Manifesto Records, to produce a DVD featuring video footage of Tim and videotaped interviews with a number of people Tim knew, including Larry Beckett and myself. Don't know when it will be released.

Looking forward to it!

Lee

I'd recommend Happy Sad or Dream letter live in London 1968.

Crumb's Crunchy Delights 02.01.2008 05:22 AM

didn't he do a version of that cocteau twins song?

Protectmeyou 02.01.2008 06:27 AM

he did it 16 years before they did

Tim Buckleys a genius. I've been picking up the 180g re-issues. They sound amazing. Favourite Buckley song at the moment is the 20 minute version of "I don't need it to rain" from Copenhagen. Just 2 chords - absolute GENIUS.

I don't know much about that film as info on it just start to surface (there was actually already another "biopic" project backed by the Jeff Buckley estate, as mentioned in the link).

I'm not sure that Penn Badgley fits the bill (but I don't know him apart from random pics - on which he sometimes seems to look like a douche), I think that James Franco or Ben Whishaw (Bright star) would be more convincing.

I'm also afraid that both films suck big time (for instance by downplaying the real admiration Jeff had for his father as an artist) but what can you do about it...
