Tim Buckley Appreciation Thread
a voice like velvet sex, mad guitar skills. i've been listening to tim a lot lately, the early folky stuff and his funky rock stuff is awesome, too. anyone else?

I likes Tim Buckley. An amazing talent, though some of his more "produced" stuff appeals less to me personally.
Jeff Buckley I cannot stand. Not even for one second. |
Buckley's "Once I Was" is played during the concluding scene of the movie "Coming Home" and its one of the most emotional statements ever put to film.

The period from Goodbye & Hello to Starsailor is awesome. I don't like his funk period as much.
He was a great performer live (Dream Letter live in London and the Peel Sessions are magnificent), and it's a pity he's very often underrated as a songwriter while he was so talented. |

There aren't many Tim Buckley fans here apparently :(
|
that's too bad. they're missing out.
|
I bump this thread because I'm listening to Live at the Troubadour right now, Lee Underwood is such a brilliant guitarist (a French magazine said he was Tom Verlaine's favorite guitar player, I don't know if it's true), it's too bad he's not known more.

I'd recommend Happy Sad or Dream letter live in London 1968. |
It seems that Tim's masterpiece Starsailor has been re-released on vynil.
I might have bought if I had more money :( |
I've ulpoaded that show on dime:
Tim Buckley & Starsailor - The Lion's Share, San Anselmo Oct. 1970 AUD (by request) |

didn't he do a version of that cocteau twins song?
|
he did it 16 years before they did
Tim Buckleys a genius. I've been picking up the 180g re-issues. They sound amazing. Favourite Buckley song at the moment is the 20 minute version of "I don't need it to rain" from Copenhagen. Just 2 chords - absolute GENIUS. |
MP3 of a great version of the River performed in 1968:

I'm not sure that Penn Badgley fits the bill (but I don't know him apart from random pics - on which he sometimes seems to look like a douche), I think that James Franco or Ben Whishaw (Bright star) would be more convincing. I'm also afraid that both films suck big time (for instance by downplaying the real admiration Jeff had for his father as an artist) but what can you do about it... |
