asp's classic albums # 99: big black - songs about fucking

Don't call it half-cocked.

you all know this one, and with good reason. It's a masterpiece.

One fine fine album.

Pookie 04.24.2011 03:07 PM

So-so. A bit half-cocked. A little pile of shit compared to the mighty Atomizer.

NEXT THREAD.

Decayed Rhapsody 04.24.2011 03:21 PM

PILE OF SHIT? fuck outta heaaaa'. I could never listen to Atomizer all the way through.

demonrail666 04.24.2011 04:31 PM

I like SAF but after Atomizer, it did feel like a bit of a let down.

DaveCromwell 04.24.2011 04:34 PM

Is "Kim Gordon's Panties" on that?

(for that matter - is Steve Albini's?)

;-)

It's on RAPEMAN's album (so yes, it's Steve Albini).

Didn't Steve Albini - one time - like - have a pair of Kim's panties?

And then - recently - after all the brouhaha over what Steve Albini said 'bout SY - Thurston was asking about Steve Albini's panties? Like - he shouldn't get his panties in a bunch?

I also like the way Kim "thanked" Steve for "being an asshole"

Ha, ha.

Oh you kids - play nice!

Dr. Eugene Felikson 04.24.2011 06:23 PM

Pretty cool, but nowhere near as cool as Atomizer.

My thoughts exactly. That's easily Big Black's classic.

Wow, ATOMIZER just feels way too long for me to sit through. It's got some good stuff but man. This album flos so perfectly though. KITTY EMPIRE, FISH FRY, L DOPA, COLOMBIAN NECKTIE, BAD PENNY, PAVEMENT SAW, etc.. all classics. amazing album.

GeneticKiss 04.24.2011 11:32 PM

Pretty much EVERY Big Black song I've ever heard has been heavy on treble...

Derek 04.25.2011 06:23 AM

SONGS ABOUT FUCKING is way better than ATOMIZER you weirdos.

atsonicpark 04.25.2011 07:20 AM

yeah, like ten thousand times better

then again, some people think 1000 hurts is better than at action park (I don't even think it's better than terraform).

Pookie 04.25.2011 07:24 AM

SAF is a bit...pop...for my liking. Girls and the gays like it I've heard.

Pookie 04.25.2011 07:28 AM

1000 Hurts, Atomizer and Two Nuns and a Pack Mule are Albini's three finest.

Now stop getting Albini wrong!

this.
unlistenable on CD.
great great on wax.:D

Genteel Death 04.25.2011 08:33 AM

Atomizer, yes.

PAULYBEE2656 04.27.2011 09:36 AM

hmmm, both atomizer and songs are awesome albums.... both different... atomizer is generally hailed as bb best record thanks to 3 or 4 pieces of fucking slay art on it but songs as a whole unit melds together much more... and is coherently a finer album. both rule with a trebly fist but sometimes a nice arguement is better than punching someones head in....and vice versa.

SONIC GAIL 04.27.2011 09:51 AM

Big Black is always great

Glice 04.27.2011 10:05 AM

I retroactively dislike this album: meaning that it may be good in theory but Albini is simply too much of a cunt for me to actually like it, without being that much of a cunt that it's likeable (for which see 'why the Smiths are alright')

I could've saved myself the effort and just said it's half-cocked.

Also - shit shoes, and the wrong guitar for that t-shirt on this evidence. A general no to those hats. And really - that shirt, on a drummer? Inexcusable.

I rather dig the shirt

Glice 04.27.2011 10:57 AM

I think you're mistaken - my understanding is that your actual opinion concurs with mine. Which it does. You've obviously just accidentally typed a contrary opinion. It happens a lot. Don't worry. But at least we agree it's a shit shirt.

SONIC GAIL 04.27.2011 11:02 AM

<3 you cunt

atsonicpark 04.27.2011 01:39 PM

I just got a big black songs about fucking sticker

is it okay to put it on my car or is it obscene?

SONIC GAIL 04.27.2011 01:45 PM

YESSSSS

Glice 04.27.2011 05:56 PM

No, Steve looks like shit, in a shit kind of way. It's not a good look, it's a shit look. It's a look that is shit.

What is wrong with you people?

the ikara cult 04.29.2011 02:52 PM

Its a pretty weak album. Two Nuns and a pack mule is better. But Atomizer is the pinnacle.

Pax Americana 04.29.2011 05:53 PM

It's a tough call, but I think Songs About Fucking is a bit more cohesive and better overall than Atomizer. Plus it has 'Bad Penny', and that song slays everything in its path. As much as I dig Big Black, Shellac is still a way more interesting band to me. At Action Park, in my opinion, is better than anything Big Black ever did.

the ikara cult 04.29.2011 06:00 PM

I agree about shellac, albini definitely got better as he got older.

please show us 'your look'

SpaceCadetHayden 05.01.2011 01:36 AM

Glice most certainly has more style than Steve Albeeny.

That said, I love this album but I prefer The Hammer Party
